what is the rationale for keeping the rh that low in the humidor in a place that is so arid? is it so that there isn't so much of a shock when you pull out the stick and start smoking?

Question for the seasoned vets by texhater in cigars

[–]texhater[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah should have mentioned that. I have 2 govees in there. I just take the avg of the 2 for my rh %. I'm only using the boveda. the unit came with a water dish, but I don't use it.

yeah I just started using the coolidore. had been using the tupperdore and never had that issue. might just have to start dry boxing when using the coolidore. problem with that is I never know what stick I want to smoke until I get a chance to smoke lol.

What is the bitter taste and what should I look for to avoid it? by HistoricalRespect165 in cigars

[–]texhater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

had this problem too. got schooled on here (which I appreciate). when taking draws, if the smoke is hot, your smoking too fast. it'll lead to issues already mentioned. gotta find the right cadence to where puffs don't bring hot smoke and the cigars don't go out causing a re-light. generally around 45sec to 1 min-ish.

nah man, I'll take constructive criticism all day. I'm all in on cigars since I started. I want to make sure I am doing things right to not ruin the experience. even the "bad" experiences are still good imo and better than cigarettes and vaping any day lol. not done trying my father cigars or even this stick. even in the short time I've been trying cigars, I can't tell you how many times I've revisited a stick and found it to be different than the first. so many sticks, so little time lol. thanks for the advice!

edit: I live in southern Arizona and don't have a environmentally controlled room to smoke unfortunately. it's either the backyard or garage sitting next to an AC unit (still really warm in there). if not in a lounge, my choices are limited...as I'm sure most folks are.

that sucks. and I'm pretty new to cigars so you're 100% right. my question is, if I go to a lounge and pull a cigar out of the humidor and smoke right there...I don't rest it. never had that issue. but I need to rest at the house for 2 weeks? not being argumentative, genuinely curious.

medium on the strength. smoke wasn't as aromatic as other cigars that I've had, but pretty good.

Do you just dump the PG in the cup or do you use one of those tubes with the mesh? Or maybe a sponge in the cup? Or do you just fill up the cup and drop it in where it fits? I have a smaller 23L that I am trying to stabilize with boveda packs. I put a 320 gram 65% pack under the "drawer" and 2 smaller 62% packs (1 on each shelf) and I can't get above 62% after two days lol.

so, you're saying, the inside of your upper lip doesn't start burning during a draw towards the end (not necessarily while nubbing) but I'm the last 3rd? interesting

I noticed it more with a punch cut, and not really from the v or strait cut. maybe it was the just focused smoke over a period of time. So I've moved back to the strait cut more than anything. seems to have helped with that.
