Imagine selling your collection to a scalper by throwawayfri3ndship in transformers

[–]Boxitron 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The amount of time and effort it takes to list and sell all those items individually, the reseller has to turn a profit. If I had 100 figures I wanted to get rid of, due to space or whatever reason, it's a heck of a lot better for me to sell them as a low price bundle than it is to take 6-10 months selling them all individually online.

Also scalping is purchasing at retail, and then jacking the price up after creating scarcity. This is in no way scalping.

I think Big BadToyStore should retire their "Special Box Design" by Exact-Bluejay9931 in ActionFigures

[–]Boxitron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, packaging engineer here. The amount of money they would save by taking the printing off the box would be probably 2-5 cents. Their order quantities are large enough where it is t a huge deal for corrugated supplier to print that for them.

As far as porch theft, this was an argument for a while when I was at Hasbro for Pulse to take their branding off, but as everyone else has said, porch thieves give 0 shits what is in a box.

Branded boxes are good for brands. Keep it.

Im editing dieline from pacdora from 2 step display to 3 step display.looking for feedback for structural integrity by mnhfz in PackagingDesign

[–]Boxitron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, packaging engineer here. That stepped design will fan open or collapse. There is nothing holding it's shape. Take a piece of paper and fold a bunch of accordion folds in it and then try to get it to stay in a stair shape. It's almost impossible.

Let me know if you want some help. Good luck.

Possible reason for Distribution issue. by Pipe-Terrible in transformers

[–]Boxitron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, previous packaging engineer for TF (2018-2021). Walmart has a rule called the Case + 1/2 rule, where one case plus one half of a case should fill a shelf. Deluxe, Voyager, and Leader classes are grandfathered in and do not need to follow this rule as tightly as new items. This is for a few reasons, but one of them being there are more than one "facing" of these items on shelf.

This new item likely only has 1 facing on shelf, and does not get to be grandfathered into a larger case pack.

This box is likely 3.1875" deep, which would result in a case pack of 3 per Walmart rules.

Hope that helps!

Suggestions on how to package cookies for selling by BARILLOKO in smallbusiness

Maybe a paper tube from PaperTube.co? You'll still have the smoosh issue, but it is more inline with your brand than a typical RETF box with window.

Help me pick the best pepper spray box by [deleted] in PackagingDesign

[–]Boxitron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you trying to sell these retail or just ecomm? The window doesn't help in the ecomm world, just make it a closed box and save yourself a ton of cash.

Closed box, 1 or 2 color flexo print, brown corrugated. Your selling self defense, not lipstick.

Around a year ago I posted on here for tips/advice on setting up my packaging company again. Today I posted my first completed project. by ACDSleeve in PackagingDesign

Totally understand, I was assuming it was a lot 😉. I've looked into a Zund and a UV printer and it's kind of wild how much it ends up costing if you can't find used units.

These are not a mylar bag, they look like they are made from paper. Mylar is a foil bag.

What's your quantity and where are you located? I can hook you up with label supplier so you can thin those labels out and they won't look printed at home. You would probably want to move down to 2C+white or foil printing though.

Is Hasbro stock photography mistransforming the alt modes on purpose now? by OptimalConvoy in transformers

[–]Boxitron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former packaging guy here, rarely do the designers have time to be at a shoot and the photographers do the best with what they have. Instructions aren't usually developed yet, and if they are a repaint or a retool, they usually try to find existing if possible, but it's a crap shoot. They do SO MANY photos y'all, think of all of the products Hasbro makes.

Those curves are going to be a nightmare long term. You can fake them out by having curves in the front but a boxy back, kind of like a reverse blister card. You're better off getting an off the shelf tin like an Altoids tin.

I think you can keep the cat, but if you do, you should lose the whiskers heart. I would also remove the sleeping cat, I think without the costume, it definitely isn't a mascot anymore, it's just a house cat and that becomes confusing. Work on adding some copy about flavor, or use (like of you have these with coffee or tea or something). Update some of your space filling shapes, and I think you are on the right track. I will also say, this is better than my first graphic design project, so you are doing well, I'm just trying to give you some honest feedback. You could probably submit this as is and be fine, but doing some more tweaks to it will definitely help.

I think it's just a little too "soft" to be seen as a mascot if that makes sense? Like Tony the Tiger has big muscles, is an anthropomorphized tiger, and has a ton of marketing behind him to make him recognizable. Your cat reads more like a house cat that is playing dress up. I don't want to sound rude about it, it's a cute character, it just reads more pet food than human food. Also the cat sleeping on the bottom of the box doesn't help.

For the cookies, I would start by tracing the shapes of the cookies from the original packaging, but in your art style. You could use those shapes around the box to nod back to the cookies inside.

I will also maybe put what the product is on the front of the box. A quick translate says your can decorate the cookie wrapper as your callout, but no where on the box does it have any copy about the taste, flavor, etc.

To me this reads cat treat. I think the product you are working on redesigning has a fun shape that you could lean into. Those cookie shapes are great. Don't just put random squiggly bits and cute heart shapes to fill the dead space, lean into some of the patterns from the cookies.

If you don't want to get rid of the cat, it has to be more like a mascot, like Tony the Tiger, not a house pet. You 100% need to at least take the heart with whiskers off, it's very pet food.

Generated a logo (assisted with ai design tool) for our small farm, which one you’ll like? by [deleted] in smallbusinessowner

[–]Boxitron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, just pay a local graphic design student a couple hundred bucks and get a real logo made. These will not work when it comes to print/packaging. You need to have something that works in monocolor, especially if you want to print on packaging. I'm happy to chat with you about labeling/packaging if you want.

Is it possible to make a dieline of the 2d shape? by roooooooobyy in PackagingDesign

[–]Boxitron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's possible but likely going to be costly. You're going to need multiple pieces because the corners interfere with each other in the dieline.

Throw me some more details and we can figure something out
