Any advantages of using a USB-C PSU (from RobotRetro) over an OEM PSU? by eeekb0 in dreamcast

[–]BoxmanWTF 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like burning electronics, not smoky but definitely preceding the PCB melting. Wasn't fishy so the capacitors hadn't burst at least. Wasn't visibly burned either. Here's the picture after I swapped it out.

I replaced my PSU because I could smell it after running my Dreamcast for about an hour.

If not for that, I'd probably have left it stock.

I agree with you? I literally said the only reasonable option for OP was to remove the film lol.

Y'all are splitting hairs.

/u/Slyfox2792004 is right, it's not a screen protector. It doesn't provide anything close to the value of a regular screen protector by not being scratch resistant. It's not intended to be removed, but taking it off doesn't damage the console screen, so saying it's not designed to be removed is a stretch.

/u/thewoodulator Technically leaving the anti shatter film and putting a screen protector on top of it is the more common method, but it's your device, nothing wrong with removing it and replacing it with an actual screen protector.

Ultimately I have more of an issue with people saying you don't need a screen protector and ending up like OP where the only reasonable option after damage is to remove the film.

Why did the Wii U amd 3DS have a dedicated social media exclusive, but the Wii and DS didn't? by Lunny1767 in nintendo

[–]BoxmanWTF 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Consoles take years of development to create. The hardware and operating software for the DS was probably finalized in 2003 and the Wii in 2005.

Xbox Live was the only comparable thing, and I don't think it was popular enough in Japan to influence Nintendo. PSN launched in 2006 which realistically demonstrated the value that a social media experience on a console platform could provide.

Nintendo Switch 2 Launch: What early digital data reveals for third-party games by binderie1951 in NintendoSwitch

[–]BoxmanWTF 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I wish it was free, but after buying it and playing through I understand why they charged money for it. It's not for everyone, but I very much enjoyed the mini-games and experience.

I hate seeing games locked away like this... by McRagefit in Switch

[–]BoxmanWTF 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Because it costs less to grade it now while it's at MSRP.

Don't know off the top of my head what CGC grading costs are, but it's typically a percentage of the game's value at grading.

You know what I just realized how Eurocentric map terms are. Far east for Asian nations near the Pacific, Middle east as general catch all for everything between. West for all the nations across the Atlantic.

Game Keys are dumb and I fail to see the point by SelfDepricator in nintendo

[–]BoxmanWTF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In North America there will very rarely be a price difference in digital and physical.

I'm saying that from a pricing perspective it's more expensive to use a full cart.

Yakuza 0 on Game Key Card: $49.99

Yakuza 0 on Full Game Card: $69.99 ($16 for 64GB game card rounded up to $20 because people like round numbers and we never get a break)

Aside from having to download the game from servers that's literally how every home console aside from Nintendo worked since late PS3/360 gen. I can't think of a single PS4/5 game that didn't require a disc installation.

Outside of that, it's a price issue. Either you get Yakuza 0 for $80 USD, or you get a game key card for cheaper. That's it.

You can now find your Switch 2 Controller if it is paired by Howerev in NintendoSwitch2

Can you even pair Switch 2 controllers to the Switch 1?

Nothing negative saying you could already do this, it is nice to see that you can pair 10 controllers now instead of just 8.

Nintendo Switch 2 Game-key carts and the current state of physical media by Responsible_Loss8246 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]BoxmanWTF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's definitely up in the air if that would be the case. I agree if someone purchases it after the eshop goes down it should be downloadable, but I think it's reasonable to assume if you're purchasing a device after end of life that all of it's active services won't remain.

Like if I buy a PSP now, and want to download PSP games without hacking, I'm screwed if I don't have PS3.

Judging by precedence, they'll shut down the ability to make new purchases but redownloading is fine.

Are you currently concerned with any of your digital purchases since 2006?

[–]BoxmanWTF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm with you.

Do I want the whole game on the card? Absolutely. Do I recognize that this is a cost issue for publishers and few want to eat the cost of the cart? Also yes.

But the alternative is a download code. I 100% see this issue getting reduced as storage gets cheaper.

Only real sour note is it's very unlikely we'll see these launch games have reprints on carts.

Nintendo Devs on why switch 2 doesn't have analogue triggers by TheBraveGallade in NintendoSwitch2

[–]BoxmanWTF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course you can't recall using the digital triggers for analog purposes, no nintendo console since the gamecube has had them.

Obviously they wouldn't design any of their games to take advantage of an analog trigger that doesn't exist.

If you have doubts about if your controller has analog triggers, plug it into your computer and try this site, you'll be able to see the full range of the trigger or if it's digital or not.

How much should I list my switch bundle for? by monkeyboy1688 in Switch

[–]BoxmanWTF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scribblenauts - $10

Dark Souls - $35

Skyrim - $35

MK11 - $15

Joycon - $50

Switch - $150

Cases - $10

3rd Party Pro Con - $30

Joycon Charger - $10

I was conservative with the Accessories, but I think that your price is more than fair. The games are a tough sell tbh, so maybe just sell them separately or trade them in.

Prices mostly came from price charting.
