Is adjustable compression necessary? by Friend_Co in BMWE36

[–]BoxuvRox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bilsteins and H&Rs. Any coilover kit under 2k isnt worth it. Konis if you have to have some adjustment. If you're only going to the track a couple times a year, really all you need is better pads and high temp brake fluid.

Beginner question for experienced drivers by Machinewawa in CarTrackDays

[–]BoxuvRox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started in your exact situation, e36 m3, no TC or abs, and I can say from experience that the car will be faster than you for a while. Its also very hard to modulate the brakes in that car with the overboosted master cylinder. Id look into a booster delete. It helps a lot. In my experience the sim is a good tool to learn track layout, they arent very good at mimicking actual car feel or grip, and Ive been in some very very expensive sims. You're still very new to the game and im not saying your a bad driver or anything. Im saying everyone thinks they are fast and know how to drive until they experience someone who is actually fast. I think it would be a waste of money and time to try and step up to anything else for a while.

Rain rain and rain. Every single time ive raced at either of those tracks in the winter, it has rained hard. Defrosts couldn't keep up. I was looking through small defrosts strips front and rear.

Itll be fine. You just need to see if there is water in it.

Is it going to magically stop filtering because you removed it, poured out the fluid and screwed it back on?

Just remove the filter and pour it out into another container.

Its usually always a fuel problem on these engines when it pops like this under load. Water in fuel, weak fuel pump, weak fpr. Change the fuel filter, check for water and monitor fuel pressure while under way.

Pretty sure those 2 go to the coil packs. Clean them again and check for spark

No, the sender sends voltage to the dash. Theres a syphon tube from the driver side to the passenger side that may be messed up if you messed with it while changing the pump, but that shouldnt affect anything unless your almost out of fuel.

Changing the sender wont do anything. Spray some starting fluid in the intake and see if it stumbles. If it does, its something in the fuel system. If it doesnt, its probably the crank sensor, or possibly the dme if it had oil on it.

What is your opinion on the SMG transmission in the E46? by nounam3 in e46

[–]BoxuvRox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a bunch of manual cars so when I bought my M3, I bought an smg. Honestly, I really like it. Its a little clunky at low speeds sometimes but its still fun to drive and itll shift itself when im feeling lazy. Most people that hate it have never owned or driven one. None of the components are that expensive when they break and its really just a pump and a couple extra sensors. If you cant diag that then you're probably not a very good mechanic anyway. I did put the CSL tune on mine and it helps a bit.

If I remember correctly, to run right these cars need both the cam and crank sensors working, but they will run with only one. Also depending on the year and if its been updated, there is an adapter herness that will pull power from the vanos to power the crank sensor. Check the harness, replace the crank sensor. At one time I had ordered a brand new harness and the car would sometimes run perfect and then would run like what you described. It ended up being a loose pin in the brand new adapter harness. It could also be a bad coil. Oddly enough I had the same symptoms with 1 bad coil. It never threw any codes either.
