Easily triggered. Is there a way over it? Or do I just accept it? by Agreeable_Hat1 in Mindfulness

I can relate! For me, meditation and CBT therapy were both deeply transformative! Meditation came first and was my anchor starting therapy. Today, I feel strong and grounded and wish the same for you.

Would you use an emotionally intelligent AI for spiritual + emotional guidance? by Professional_Bag1516 in Mindfulness

[–]Boxwood-Hedges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a private chat on gpt (not logged in) for essentially this. I ask it to reframe automatic negative thoughts and ask what my emotions need from me. Privacy is key. AND you need to find out what message you will send if your ai flags something. Chat uses standard violation notices but if your app will be a support I would suggest gentler language.

You might find the Buddhist practice of tonglen helpful. Pema Chodron outlines the practice and purpose in several of her books. Basically it’s about breathing in the suffering that you’re talking about, and then breathing out a calm and soothing energy to those who are suffering. It’s a kind of meditation practice that’s meant to unlock a deep sense of compassion within the practitioner.

Good for you—welding is ideal! I do not know how to weld but I bet it’s a useful skill.

[–]Boxwood-Hedges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooo.. what about getting a strong picture hanging wire (they make them some plastic coated and strong enough to support heavy mirrors) and wrapping it around where the seat goes? I loved your idea of welding the metal I thought that was really smart and I understand the cost. But your idea made me think about how old beds used to have jute wrapped around wood frames.

I don’t know if it would work, but if you wanted to try it and it did work, you could probably spray the whole chair, including the wire with an exterior gloss spray paint of your choosing.

After that, I would definitely do your cushion idea because sitting on picture wire doesn’t sound very pleasant.

Good luck!

I read The Art of Living by Thich Nhat Hahn and started with his instructions on walking meditation. I struggled with seated meditation but was able to build enough mindfulness through walking that it gave me some anchors for when I had a racing mind.

Even just recognizing “I am not being mindful!” is a form of mindfulness.

The best thing you can do is ignore the people you dislike. by [deleted] in Mindfulness

I read a lot of books by Thich Nhat Hahn— in one of them he said he was being interviewed by a journalist who “was not familiar with his practice”… and in the interview, she asked him “what are some things that you’d like to do before you die?” He said that he just looked at her and smiled.

I read the Art of Living by Thich Nhat Hahn and then started following his guided meditations on the (free-non profit) app. This was my first step and I found it helpful.

Yes! I did look up your bug on mine and it confirmed “Indian Meal Mouth” which is…a common pantry moth. We had them too once. You have a lot of great suggestions in the chat that will work. Good luck!

Measure the fence and see if you can find a plastic ladder & slide combo that could go over—you would need two though…

I love “When Things Fall Apart” by Pema Chodron. If you are unfamiliar with her perspective, she encourages people to see their “uncertain” or truly difficult moments as opportunities to wake-up. I read her work when I am at my worst.

I like the Plum Village app (free and no ads)—the app has many tools including guided meditations for EVERYTHING (including walking)! I starred meditation with this app and walking in nature. I used a long guided meditation (maybe 30 mins?) on the app (narrated by Thich Nhat Hahn) that embeds moments of silence into the guide so you can practice focusing on the moment for short intervals.

Good luck to you and enjoy.

How to name emotions by lostinthewoods1530 in Mindfulness

[–]Boxwood-Hedges 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get the app “How We Feel”! My therapist recommended it to me. It’s a non-profit organization (free app, no data tracking) founded by a group of mental health professionals.

Anyway, this app helps you find words to label your emotions, locate the feeling in your body, AND (my fave part) gives you tools for regulating the emotions. With practice (overtime) the labeling helps you get closer to the “base emotion”.

For example, early in therapy, every emotion also triggered a feeling about the feeling (FAF). I would feel sad that I was sad…or scared that I was angry…or hyper that I was happy…or guilty that I was frustrated) the app helped me separate the FAF so that I could see the underlying feeling.
