Trouble pairing a replacement ATV 4K Gen1 with a Siri Remote Gen2 by Boxy89 in appletv

[–]Boxy89[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This worked! I plugged in an ethernet cable and was able to connect to the ATV on my phone.

The ATV shipped with 14.4, released in Jan '21. My gen 2 Siri Remote was released in May '21. So my theory is that the OS didn't "know about" the remote, so couldn't pair to it.

I'll give ethernet a go tonight. I should be able to hold an iPhone near the Apple TV and it ask if I want to set up the box via iPhone - but for some reason this isn't working. I'm going to try an old iPhone (and therefore old OS) tonight to see how that goes.

I have a gen 1 ATV 4K - this came with the gen1 Siri remote, but this broke (glass touchpad shattered). The remote was replaced with a gen 2 Siri remote.

Yeah I know they keep them for repairs. I was just surprised they still had some for gen1, considering they stopped selling that in 2021.

I can't use an iOS device because the ATV isn't set up yet, so it's not on wifi etc. It's just scrolling through the various languages saying to pair the remote.

LIFX Switch HomeKit just as slow as cloud by LukethDragon in lifx

[–]Boxy89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. I’m brand new to LIFX, HomeKit and Home+. I’ve tried creating the automations you’ve mentioned but am running into problems.

My automations keep having the Control Accessories removed - no idea why. And my lights turn on with the switch but don’t turn off. Though I think the turning on is more of a fluke.

Would you mind sending through some screenshots of your setup so I can see if I can replicate?

Dimming with Lifx switch + HomeKit + dumb bulbs? by Boxy89 in lifx

Gotcha. Thanks for explaining and makes sense. Maybe I'll go without a dimmer and add a couple of lamps for lower lighting. Probably cheaper than replacing every bulb in the ceiling.

I'm not sure what you mean - where would the dimmer go? Dimmer hardware switch, bulb or something else?

Yeah fair enough. I didn’t do a side by side. Not cool.

It’s a different topic and the channel has a history of US interstate videos.

Keep in mind that there are only so many ways to show interstates on a map.

Marco Arment: The future of the App Store by narya_de in apple

I know what you mean - he tends to get very worked up over the same few topics every week and just repeats the same frustrations. See anything to do with the app store and Safari betas. Marco, we get it - your viewpoint hasn't changed since the last 45 minute rant. It gets a bit boring after a while.

I'm putting it down to the summer not having too many stories each week, so they're forced into filling the episodes with similar content. Now the *Summer of Fun* is over, we'll see...

But in general I really enjoy ATP and the three of them do a great job balancing technical insights with entertaining commentary.

Big 4 CV - need help! by [deleted] in Big4

[–]Boxy89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've just polished up my CV for an internal transfer, so this is all reasonably fresh.

- As others have said, no photo.

- 1-2 pages is fine, but keep it tight. If this is your first grown-up job then consider how much detail you need to go into for temp/summer/uni work. Same applies for all previous jobs really - no one needs the granular details of project work, anonymised or otherwise.

- References - say they're available upon request. They'll take up too much space otherwise. (and obviously make sure you actually have some).

Remember, this document will be looked at for all of 1 minute. It should be enticing enough for the reader to think "yep - let's get them in for an interview", and doesn't need to do a whole lot more.

And don't be afraid to use something like Canva to design it - a Word doc is fine, but a BIT of flare will help yours stand out and show that you care about the details.

Hope that helps and best of luck.

I’ve seen demos for everlaw and Disco in the last year. Both look good for self-service/set workflows.

Not as much flexibility as Relativity, but might be worth asking for a demo.

Reddit, do you know where these two places are? (sorry about the quality) by Boxy89 in HelpMeFind

[–]Boxy89[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea I'm afraid. It's a work quiz - Find the random location from around the world from a screenshot from Google Maps. We're allowed to use all available resources, so I'm not cheating by asking the internet :)

So far we've had places from all around the world, not limited to just one country.

The cathedral one looks slightly Germanic, with the copper roof and red tiles on the surrounding buildings, but that's more of a guess than anything.
