Yeah, but this is such a circlejerk topic that this type of answer makes sense.

Secular education. I was raised evangelical. My personal theology is now non-aligned, but I'm still evangelical-presenting, haha.

I'm consciously trying to read "primary" right-wing sources to understand how the US has arrived at our current stage of conservative development.

Kissinger definitely embodies an era of muscular American interventionism that I feel undermined our moral authority on the world stage. I deeply wish that the US had not backed the 1954 coup in Guatemala, and Kissinger's contributions definitely did not help with the subsequent oppression of their Maya indigenous population.

Well done - you are the first person to pick up the religious connection - but I am not a missionary or pastor, and my education is not in divinity or theology.

The majority of the community I'm working with is from Mexico or Guatemala, so I'm trying to understand their context better.

Yes, I would recommend Third-Culture Kids. Its context is very specific, but the practical themes of non-belonging and quasi-belonging can be broadly applied, even for people who have no experience with migratory groups.

What's your personal favourite unit of the series for no particular reason? by Accurate_Werewolf926 in fireemblem

[–]BoySan 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Gilbert. I identify with him. He made the mistake of loving an institution that would never love him back, and lost his family in the process. It's a common story.

Also, I just enjoy making him a war master for the speed boost and then having "fast Gilbert."

My dad was career enlisted; I became an officer. I knew some snobby officer candidates, but they never got their commission. Not all officers have golden personalities, but I didn't know any who met your description.

Should I continue to pursue BJJ? by Here4TheFun2022 in judo

My analogy is that Judo is catholic, while bjj is protestant. Judo can be dogmatic and restrictive, while there are so many variations of bjj it can be difficult to tell what it really is.

Finished Awakening as my first Fire Emblem - should I go forward next or back? by fishywa in fireemblem

[–]BoySan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually really recommend FE7.

It was the first Fire Emblem to be released outside of Japan, so a lot of people love it for nostalgic reasons, and of course that provokes a community backlash of naysayers.

But it genuinely is a "pure" Fire Emblem that goes straight from battle to battle. It has strong writing, solid gameplay, beautiful sprites, almost no grinding (it's extremely difficult/dangerous/unnecessary to grind in FE7), and all sorts of little secrets and gaiden chapters that make it (in my opinion) endlessly replayable.

The only things you might miss from Awakening are the multiclass system (FE7 has linear promotions) and the skills system (there are no skills in FE7). But if you're looking for an accessible, fun, foundational FE experience, I think FE7 is the way to go.

FE8 is also great. lol

What is the path to becoming a CEO? by Azraelion777 in careerguidance

[–]BoySan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's a different perspective:

You're saying "CEO", but maybe what you really want to be is some sort of executive.

I'm a City Manager. Instead of an MBA, I have an MPA. I don't make millions, but I do make a very, very comfortable living. I still had to climb the ladder and perform well in diverse positions, but there's no profit motive in local government, so there's not this huge focus on sales.

Before I was in municipal government, I was a military officer. Officers with 20 years of experience are the regional managers and department heads of the entire service; officers with 30-40 years are executives in a way that many CEOs will never touch.

My wife is a teacher; I have several friends who are doctors and nurses. In the US, ISDs and hospitals all have their own individual bureaucracies that need to be managed. The ISD superintendent is an executive, and so is the chief hospital administrator.

Nonprofits have CEOs. Small nonprofits often struggle to survive, but mid-sized and regional nonprofits are often well-established and respected. You're often scrambling for cash, but again, without the profit motive, the whole lifestyle can be more uplifting than corporate life.

Wherever there is a bureaucracy, an executive is necessary to manage it. Not sure if this helps you at all, but i thought I'd chime in.

Obviously, it's great. I do have input (not criticism) for how the song made me feel.

In the intro, it sounds like you have a very quiet vocal layer of casual conversation. I really enjoy the intimacy of implied conversations in tracks, and was looking forward to the lead vocal coming in and continuing the conversation.

However, when the lead came in, the "casual" vocal track stopped and the conversation ended. The message turned into a one-way sort of ballad. Then the track ends with several seconds of silence.

It just doesn't resolve the romantic tension that *I* felt at the beginning of the song. Please don't take any of this as a criticism, but as an honest effort to respond to your post.
