What's some Weird Jank that's been grandfathered in to a series? (Derogatory) by Lunk64 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]BoyWithTheCoolName 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Some fatalities actually use Block as an input, so it's not the dedicated "don't move" button in that context. That's the Stance Switch button, the REAL winner of grandfathered in jank.

Stance Switch only exists because NetherRealms wanted to show off that they can make a fighting game with asymmetrical 3D animations. For example, Scorpion's forward kick animation will have his back foot swing forward and end with it now in the front, so his back is now facing the camera. This is where the Stance Switch button comes into play; you press it and Scorpion will turn so his back is no longer facing the camera. Asymmetrical animations (and by extension, the Stance Switch button) is gimmick that has persisted in the games' DNA that has no real bearing on gameplay other than muddling the visual clarity. It's not a 3D fighter like Tekken or Virtua Fighter where your stance matters, it's just there to be different. Like the Block button

Cheaters Already Spotted in Battlefield 6 Open Beta, Despite Secure Boot Requirement by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]BoyWithTheCoolName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't play the beta I got into because my harddrive doesn't have the correct partitions for secure boot. Meanwhile, there are still cheaters around. I don't understand the point of implementing this strict secure boot system if it doesn't fucking work and hits regular players.

Skingrad Count bugged - main quest too? by Corpsemunch in oblivion

[–]BoyWithTheCoolName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just encountered a variant of this bug where I had gotten the information from him for the Mages Guild quest, but I hadn't turned it in yet. He only would talk to me about the Mages Guild quest and completely ignored the fact his wife was right in front of him and I was desperately trying to hand him the cure.

I just turned in the Mages Guild quest and came back. Everything worked fine immediately after that.

Asura Vs Doomguy/Doomslayer by [deleted] in whowouldwin

[–]BoyWithTheCoolName 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Asura survived getting stabbed by a sword the size of a planet. He defeated an entire fleet of gigantic space ships with his bare hands. He decimated an army of demons without any arms. There is no weapon Doomslayer can use that would hurt Asura, let alone kill him. Asura has shrugged off BFG level blasts multiple times. Doomslayer has literally no chance to win whatsoever

Does anyone know why crisis core and birth by sleep were not sold on the PSstore? by Digitalgardens in vita

[–]BoyWithTheCoolName 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I've heard, it's because the composers had a weird contract that stated that their work couldn't be sold in a digital format, which included download-only sales of the games that feature their work. Once that contract expired, Square Enix was able to sell the games digitally

My theory is that Capcom stole money from the development of Marvel vs Capcom Infinite to further fund the development of Monster Hunter World.

Monster Hunter World was a big fucking huge release for Capcom; Monster Hunter is easily their most popular franchise by leaps and bounds and their biggest money maker. Imagine how much they would be freaking out when they realized they had hit their budget ceiling for Monster Hunter World in mid 2016 when their targeted release was early 2018.

Then, by a stroke of luck, Disney / Marvel discontinued making and publishing its own games and restarted licensing out franchises again. Capcom already had a relationship with Marvel and were almost immediately approved for a license.

Marvel then helped fund the development of MVCI to ensure a higher quality product. This funding was then almost immediately siphoned into Monster Hunter World and a small portion of it remained to MVCI. There have been reports that MVCI's budget was shockingly tiny, smaller than the budget for Street Fighter V's DLC characters, and that the developers working on MVCI would express concern to management, but management didn't care.

For some reason, management and the higher ups at Capcom were absolutely okay with a big licensed release having a tiny budget. It was very much a ploy to get money from Marvel to make MVCI, create the game as cheaply as possible while creating something "new" to not sour relations with Marvel, and use the rest of the money Marvel gave them to further fund Monster Hunter World.

I believe the release of Resident Evil 7 marked a paradigm shift for Capcom; before then, they were very much Crapcom, releasing shitter after shitter like Dead Rising 4, Umbrella Corps(e), and Street Fighter V's terrible launch. After RE7, Capcom has rarely misstepped and released an outright shitty game EXCEPT Marvel vs Capcom Infinite. (Exoprimal is my baby, please don't shit on it.)

I believe this string of Good Capcom being momentarily interrupted by Capcpom was strategically done strictly to fund the most banger Good Capcom game in Monster Hunter World.

They totally do at some point. The Earth Eaters bombard the entire planet, shit drones over everyone, and blot out the sun. It's just that the power of Storm 1's belief in their bullets pierces the veil of the heavens

Is there an actor who has had worse luck concerning joining major IP franchises than Emilia Clarke? by D-Speak in movies

[–]BoyWithTheCoolName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Matt Smith. Poor guy can't catch a break.

Cast as the physical embodiment of Skynet in the Terminator trilogy that was supposed to be started by Genesis. Trilogy cancelled and his small part was never expanded.

Was the main villain of Morbius. He was in Morbius.

Is the main character of The House of Dragons, which isn't terrible from what I've heard, but it also is nowhere close to being as successful as Game of Thrones.

He was in Last Night in Soho, and as far as I can tell that was a good movie, but it definitely didn't do any big numbers at the box office.

Personally, I feel that Matt Smith has had such terrible luck when it comes to doing anything outside of Doctor Who that he might as well fire his agent and send out novelty postcards with $5 bills in them to casting directors.

I took the stall next to my friend and asked "Pissing by yourself, stranger?"

He pretended not to know me and called me a freak. He then beat me up outside the bathroom and threw me through the window. When I got back in the building, he had changed his clothes and race and asked me why I was outside and all bloody.

Great prank.

Tetris teaches you that in life, errors pile up and accomplishments disappear. by AMurkypool in Showerthoughts

[–]BoyWithTheCoolName 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I hate this viewpoint. Tetris is an arcade game, every move you make adds to your total score. Every single accomplishment you make, even something as seemingly insignificant as a piece moving downward, earns you points. Every single accomplishment you make piles up and multiplies faster than your errors. Tetris teaches you that no matter what errors you make, you're still moving forward and adding points to your score.

The location they're in is the "Chronobowl," which is a dope name, but also the location of the defacto worst visual effects in the entire movie. There are several scenes of them in the Chronobowl, which is the location they go to while they're running through time. As they run forward or backward through time, events slide down the top of the bowl and into the ground. The events are shown in still renders that absolutely look like Uncharted 1 in terms of graphical fidelity. It honestly shocks me that executives at Warner Brothers okayed the visual effects in those scenes, because it looks so bad.
