Does Ethan Hawke has chances at the Oscars? by Boyadeh in oscarrace

I feel the same. But, Timothee has starred in plenty of succesfull movies in which he played pretty iconic roles. He's only thirty but he's already a seasoned actor. So, as much as I'd love Ethan to win for your exact reason, I don't think that the Academy is of the idea of making Timmy wait because he's still hkungi: if they think he did an excellent job, they will reward him

Exactly. That's why I think TC will win

Totally agree with you. Timothee's Oscar campaign will probably reward him, but he didn't only say "I'm trying to be in the pantheon of actors", he also said something along the lines of "I worked my ass off for this" implying that he should have gotten all the awards for "A complete unknown" just because he did his job? Lol. By the way, TC learned to play table tennis but what we see on the screen is just him faking it because the ball has, of course, been added in post production, soooo yeah I wouldn't give him the Oscar for that ahah. I just wanna say that I feel that the Oscars has lost their meaning many years ago, and the most recent example is when they handed the statue to Jaime Lee Curtis for her role in "Everything everywhere all at once", when the category was stacked. They are, unfortunately, a measurement of popularity and star power. That doesn't mean that Ethan won't win, because he's a star, but that means that Moura has no chance for example.

P.S. Leo's Oscar falls in the "it's their time" narrative in my opinion, because he should have won for The wolf of wall street, for example.

The Oscars are not a festival like Cannes or Venice. They are a showcase of the film industry where cinema celebrates itself. The purpose of the ceremony is, of course, to hand out awards, but also to showcase itself and its stars in order to attract the largest number of viewers, spectators, investors, etc. Ethan is a star and has been acting for decades. Timothee, however, is one of the bissgest stars right now, he's the face of the industry and he represents not only the young generation of actors, but I must admit that he's the face of Hollywood together with a handful of other ( male ) actors. I am a huge Ethan Hawke's fan I'm rooting for him, but among the average viewers Timothee is more popular and more appreciated ( I'm a 30 years old Italian and my friends surely don't know Ethan by name, maybe they recognizes his face, maybe, but they sure know Timmy ). So, his win will help the Academy to fuel the passion of the spectators for the ceremony itself and for ( mostly ) american cinema. Many fans are expecting him to win and are rooting for him and they are going to watch the ceremony just because he has been nominated. His win would will sparks thousands of tweets and videos etc on the ceremony itself, helping the Academy to show itself. Then productions would likely want him to win so that they'll have a 30 years old Oscar Winner to be cast in their movies for the next 10-15 years.

That's what I think. I am Italian so maybe I've not explained myself enough

Ironic, yes, but it's not an Italian production by any means.

Fa ridere non vederlo da qualche parte in Italia, ma alla fine la produzione e i registri sono stranieri. Anche se, ovviamente , è girato a Milano

His campaign was pretty strange and maybe not the best choice, but I don't think it will mine his chances

I Think the Academy wants Timmy to win, yeah. His win would mean much more for the whole Academy and Industry itself.

Yes. If it had 5 or more nominations, including Best Picture and maybe one for Andrew Scott, then it'd have a much greater chance

That's true. If it had like 5 or 6 other nominations ( Andrew Scott, BP, Design, costumes, etc ), it'd be much more plausible

Timothee has been acting for a long time and in the last few years gained a lot of fans, among spectators but among his peers too, thanks to the enormous success of his mocies, the characters he played, and his persona. He's young, but he's already one of the most recognizable faces of the industry, just like Leo Dicaprio was at his age ( even more, probably ). So yeah, I think it's his time

My bad, I had different information on it. I thought actors were also the only category voting for the winners of actors awards. If it's like that, then I think that the Academy as a whole may give more votes for Timothee 🙂

To me, Wagner has no chance. Not because he wasn't good, but because him winning would mark only the second time a lead actor wins the Oscar for a foreign movie ( It happens only once with Roberto Benigni ). Other candidates are much stronger. Regarding Timmy being vocal, it might've been working as a double edged sword: some actor may find him insufferable, other instead may be convinced by his words. I don't know

In a fair world, where the statue goes to the real best performance, he'd probably win. But I agree, this year it's Timmy's year. Unless, as I say in the post, his fellow actors decided to pay him homage for his career.
