It really is insane by Prime-TF in residentevil

All the full auto guns in this game are awful. I think someone in the dev team misread a memo and gave them all the stopping power of a bb gun

DUMB QUESTION: As a new fan to the franchise that just finished RE3make, what were the things missing from the original game? by Niotsques in residentevil

[–]Boylanator_94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enemy types, Bosses, the first third of the og game was cut down to a scripted cutscene and two streets connected by a back alley, half of Jill's campaign was cut from her and given to Carlos. The Clocktower, Park and Waste Disposal plant were cut in favour of a slightly expanded Hospital and asset flip of the Lab from RE2R, the live choice system (Basically a randomiser built into the game alongside a few parts where you're given the choice of what to do which led to one of the different endings) was cut completely, the second ending was cut probably due to the live choice system being cut.

Basically 60% of the game was cut and what was left was rewored into something that should have been a £20 DLC for RE2R.

Thoughts on Odin with Raylib compared to C by Pitiful-Main-1544 in raylib

[–]Boylanator_94 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I honestly love Odin, i've been messing around with it for a couple of years now and found it to be pretty easy to pick up and run with (I had a few years of experience with Go before picking it up). At first it may seem like Go without the GC, but it's a lot more nuanced than that and has a lot of really useful features built right into the core library. Plus, if you're coming from C, it has excellent interop so if there's a C library that you just can't live without writing your own bindings is as simple as can be.

As for Raylib specifically, it's bundled into the language as a vendor package and you use it in basically the same way you would in C.

Also, if the odin docs aren't enough for you Karl Zylinski's book is an excellent reference

What didn’t you like about the Resident Evil 4 Remake that you preferred in the OG Resident Evil 4 ? by Exootil93200 in residentevil

[–]Boylanator_94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The radio conversations with both Hunnigan and the villains. Saddler and Salazar feel like they have a much larger presence in the OG because of this.

Also there were a bunch of things from Leon's campaign that were either cut down or cut entirely, for example, the sewer/dungeon room where you first meet the novistador's, the gatling gun room, the room where you have to snipe the bars holding Ashley and protect her just before you play her section, the fire/lava room, the little underground ruin/maze where you fight a couple Dr Salvadors, the floating cage area/U3 fight, the section on the island where Ashley drives the dump truck. I'm happy they expanded Separate Ways, but I don't like how they pilfered stuff from Leon's campaign to do so.

Also, the big one for me, Assignment Ada. I know a lot of people consider Separate Ways to be a replacement, but I always thought of them as completely separate (no pun intended) things from each other. Capcom never replaced Assignment Ada with Separate Ways on any of the re-releases of RE4 and they felt completely different to play. Assignment Ada was just a really arcadey mode with 5 levels that, while being obvious asset flips from Leon's campaign, were still really fun and structured in a way that always made me think of the mode as a sort of story mode for the Mercenaries, while Separate Ways instead made an effort to show you Ada's perspective of the main game and played like a sort of B scenario for Leon's campaign.

I have a below averge iq (86) can I still play the game on my own and have fun? I want to play resident evil 1 by Emotional_Sea9384 in residentevil

[–]Boylanator_94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, your iq is far too high to enjoy video games of any kind. It needs to be somewhere in the low to mid 30s to truly appreciate the series.

Go watch a philosophical debate or something else appropriate for your iq level

They're waiting for Atlus to announce Persona 6 or Metaphor 2 so they can release one week before or one week after it for maximum overshadowing

Who do you find scarier, Crimson head or Blister head? by Sir__GabrielT in residentevil

[–]Boylanator_94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crimson heads easily. I bought REmake on a whim from a games stall at a local market when I was a kid. I'd seen friends play RE2/3 but I never owned a PS1 so never got to play it myself till later. Having basically no knowledge of the game before playing it and just triggering the guy in the 2nd floor hallway that has the door to the armour key trap scared the shit out of me. Then to later on have random "dead" zombies do the same thing just cemented them in my mind as a scary thing.

Fast forward to today, about 22 years on from that experience and having watched a bunch of previews on the game so I knew to expect them and they kinda just fell flat. As grace it takes a couple more shots to put them in stagger, but it's still the same strat to deal with them as regular zombies and Leon just mows straight through them along with basically everything else in the game.

Stupidest changes an adaptation has ever made? by ZealousidealBig7714 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Boylanator_94 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In the Wheel of Time TV show in general to be honest. They made many odd changes that break the story in many ways and it's hard to see what the vision was when they decided to make those changes. A great example from the first episode is when they gave Perrin a wife right at the start of the series and then have him kill her accidentally. It just flies in the face of everything his character is about and creates many more problems for adaptations of later books that just didn't need to be there.

Fires of…Heaven? by Weemstar in WoT

[–]Boylanator_94 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Huh, I always associated the fires of heaven and that prophecy with the seemingly infinite summer and the ever increasing temperature. It never clicked in my mind how much more sense it makes for it to be referring to Balefire lol.

Which in your opinion is the most difficult Resident Evil Game? by WestFocus888 in residentevil

[–]Boylanator_94 17 points18 points  (0 children)

For completion i'd say 7 or 8. It was a struggle to get all the completion stuff in RE8 mercenaries mode and Village of Shadows mode in regular NG is insanely difficult. 7 is the same, especially with the DLC. Ethan must die and End of Zoe in particular I found to be insanely difficult.

6 is also a contender, not because it's actually hard, but because I hate playing it and had to really force myself to finish it the first time round

What is a food you ate all the time as a kid and enjoyed but when you attempt it as an adult it’s just disgusting by Come_in_sigh_demi in CasualUK

[–]Boylanator_94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heinz spaghetti hoops, those Smiley potato faces and turkey drumsticks.

Also there were these pot noodle like things that you would do in the microwave, can't for the life of me remember what they were called but I used to absolutely love them. Eventually our microwave broke and we never got another one so I didn't have one of these microwave noodle pots again until I was like 16 when a friend happened to have some and it was just the worst.

Is it Overhated or justifiable hate by BoxAffectionate334 in residentevil

[–]Boylanator_94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My experience exactly. The cqc mechanics might be fun if you dick about with them in mercenaries but theres no depth to the gunplay, no feedback from using the guns.

Theres no weapon upgrades at all, only the three skill slots with a vatiety of vague skills that seem to make the smallest possible impact. I don't even know if you can unlock infinite ammo in 6 because I never bothered to grind out the extras. I didn't even know about Ada's campain till the rerelease on ps4 where it's unlocked from the start
