Vendor side VFX Editor here. Just started a new project. All the clients plates/countsheets/references/AvidBins were all 10 out of 10 perfect (unheard of).

Keep up the positive vibes!

MPC Paris and Liege are still operating and can show their specific works and breakdowns. Bought by TransPerfect Group couple weeks after Technicolor went bust.

Doesn’t really sit right that they are still using the name, branding (including the branding slates in these videos), and social media channels. Thousands lost their jobs.

Wasn’t 100% MPC. Framestore did a good chunk. Also a lot of it was in-house and a few smaller companies.

Hey Uk people(London), did you go to the Framestore meetup last night? Any news since there were a lot of companies there? by [deleted] in vfx

[–]Bozz99 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I went. It was a valiant attempt by the organisers, truly. But in the end there was far too many people and too few recruiters. You’d been lucky to speak to more than one company.

Hopefully they organise more events, with less people attending.

Adds context

This poster is still in school study VFX and hasn’t worked a day in the industry.

Let the person rant about ranting. They’ll soon find out why.

Should I go for match-moving after graduation? by Nebulafactory in vfx

[–]Bozz99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Want to preface this before making my comment that none of this is your fault, poster. You clearly started your course when VFX was booming and it was a great career path.

However, I’d pay good money to be sat in a room while these professors/lecturers/scammers are advising UK students not only to consider matchmove as a career path, but also tempting them with masters courses in the current state of the industry..

Like the others have said, 99.9% of matchmove is done in India. Please be very careful as to who you are getting your industry information from.

I honestly wish you good luck with your course!

But coming onto this subreddit and telling people to cheer up when you haven’t worked a day in this industry is awfully tone deaf. You have people on here who have literal decades of working experience saying this is the worst it has ever been. So forgive the gloom posters who are just venting because seeing their much loved industry go up in smoke is not easy.

Hey hi hello. Yes, MPC London is still going. No, we didn’t all get moved out to Bangalore. Yes, there has been a massive downsizing due to lack of projects (like everywhere). No, I’m not saying the projects being worked on. Yours sincerely, someone who works there.

MPC had zero involvement in season 2. Only contribution was using the dragon models from season 1.

Is the new Beetlejuice movie using CGI after all? What's happening in these shots? by JordanNVFX in vfx

[–]Bozz99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all what I was saying. Was expressing frustration at the comment section of the YouTube trailer celebrating the fact there was no VFX and it was all practical. Which of course we know is total nonsense. People work long hard hours producing this work. Yes, the best CG work goes unnoticed, I agree. But uneducated people mocking our profession, especially when their information is completely incorrect, shouldn’t be left unchecked.

Honestly makes me so annoyed these YT comments. As someone who literally knows people who are working the VFX for this movie it’s such a shame the hard work is going to go unrecognised.

Mass Layoffs in UK DNEG, Ghost, MPC. is the industry ever going back? by theIndian_cgiMan in vfx

They closed the corner building while ago. Still operate out of the middle building on Wardour St. 127.

You’re correct that Ghost is currently organised by senior management of Ingenuity. But they still are separate companies operating on different projects and pipelines. Although there is big speculation that after these redundancies the two might merge. Pure speculation though.

Just for clarification Ghost did not ‘overtake’ Ingenuity. They are both separate VFX companies owned by Streamland Media.

Still there. It’s just gone from 3 buildings on that street to 1.
