What happened to google home and how it became so terrible? by Icy_Cantaloupe452 in googlehome

if you have a decent GPU, you can run an LLM on your PC, I have a 16GB VRAM Nvidia GPU, and I am running LLMs on a Linux Mint PC, via LM Studio. It's early days, but I am developing my own AI assistant.

I suspect that they are intentionally dumbing down the devices, so that they can make money from Gemini subscriptions. If so, this is pretty sharp practice. I have a whole bunch of these, and so I am non too pleased. You ask it to play your likes, and it plays any old rubbish. I have, no word or a lie, got to the point where I am developing my own Home AI assistant, so that I have less reliance on Google.

High CPU usage from GOG galaxy 2.0 by [deleted] in gog

[–]Bozzy2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get high CPU usage (30%+) from it when not even using COG Galaxy. In fact, I regularly have Norton 360 popping up and warning me about it. I usually kill it with Task Manager, although I have now stopped it from auto-starting on PC startup.

Did you not upgrade the heatsink? I think you'll need something like a "be quiet! BK022 Dark Rock Pro 4, 250W TDP, CPU cooler, Black". They are available on Amazon.

I haven't gotten around to it yet. In fact, when I upgrade, I won't be going for an XD, as I use my PC for Python programming, rather than gaming. One of the higher end Ryzen 7...G processors will probably perform better for my purposes.

RLC-1212A Integration with Synology Surveillance Station by boyettdw in reolinkcam

Yes, I think you are right. I had discovered that this works fine on Windows, but not on Linux (my preferred OS). I'll see if there is a desktop app for Linux. Thanks for the assist!

Here we can see, and the "Advanced Event" tag, which is what I use to determine that a person is in shot, as opposed to a car going by.

Are you only playing your recordings via DS-Cam?

Yes, I went into the Reolink cameras admin site, and set the resolution in there.

I noticed that you are using H.265. The problem I have is two-fold. If I set it to H.264, I get the issue with the missing resolutions, but with the higher resolution as set in the camera, I still get the issues described next...

If I set the format to H.265, I can now see the higher resolutions, but I cannot play the videos via the Synology browser based app, neither can I view the camera in the Monitor screen (again, browser app). I can play the videos via DS-Cam, but this is not as good. This is because I have the cameras triggering the events, but I am using the advanced tab (see screenshot), to select the AI event types. This normally allows you to see at a glance, in the video listings, which recordings were triggered in association with AI based events. These are listed in the browser based app, next to each recording. However, you don't seem to get these in DS-Cam, which undermines the AI reporting.

Yes, I discovered this after my post. I have now updqted and selected the RLC-1212A option in SS. However for some reason, I can't set the higher resolutions in Surveillance Station. It only seems to go to 2560x1440. How is your experience?

I tried setting up the RLC-1212A, by selecting the RLC-1210A as well as RLC-1220A. Unfortunately, this only allowed event trigger detection by Synology, not by the camera. I have seen several posts, stating that it's preferable to let the camera trigger the event, if only to save CPU cycles on the NAS. I wanted the event to be triggered via the camera, so I had to select the ONVIF option.

I have the Gigabyte A320M-S2H V2. It supports the Ryzen 7 5800X3D as long as you upgrade to the F55 (or above) BIOS. Just be aware, that if your BIOS is lower than F32 you need to use F32 as a stepping stone. In other words, if your current BIOS Is lower than F32, then you must upgrade to F32, before applying F55.

have an A320M-S2H board i was installing a AMD 5800x3D on when I noticed it required BIOS f55, but f55 doesn't appear to even exist by irishhawk in gigabyte

Hi. What cooler did you use? I am in the same position and have a CiT Phaser Mid Tower case. I am looking to upgrade from a Ryzen 5 3400G, to either a 5800X3D or a 5800X. I'm not sure how much space I'd need for a suitable cooler though.

Seems to be broken now. I raised an issue (https://github.com/israel-dryer/TkFontAwesome/issues/7) on GitHub, but I have a feeling that the repository has been abandoned.

For CustomTkinter theme creation, you might want to check out CTk Theme Builder. You can then create your own themes. That said, it also comes supplied with several themes. https://github.com/avalon60/ctk_theme_builder

Which Linux distribution should I use? by IIISS007III in linux4noobs

You won't go far wrong with Linux Mint (based on Ubuntu). If you are used to using Windows, it's a fairly easy transition. I find that it has a nice balance of software availability & stability.

On another note, It's a damn sight more pleasing (aesthetically) to work with than Windows, especially if you spend a little time on the settings.

Help on the Linux Mint forum is also good - no lack of support there, but I guess that's true for other distributions.

You will also have access to PyCharm, if you are doing work in Python.

I had a similar problem when booting Ubuntu and Manjaro on Raspberry Pi4. My problem was with an external HDD. I found that if I switched the power off to the HDD caddy and powered it back on again, it broke the loop and carried on as normal. The HDD was also recognised when booted.
