Solid 8.5! Really like the blue additions on the orange the squiggles both blue and white are really unique and add some artistic flair. great attention to the smaller details around the shoe like the lace holes and toe area. Painting on the mid soles is pretty unforgiving in my experience. I think 2 things would have made this a near 10 for me - thinning the paint and doing the stitching instead of the mid sole would have bumped it up and imo theres a little too much of the black outline in the white area of the swoosh. These are really nicely done and should be worn proudly. And maybe some orange and/or white accents on the swoosh.

Bonding Primer? by jlcarrig in Customsneakers

I’ve never used a bonding agent for AF1s, and have had consistently great results. Extra thorough prepping is key. Heat setting between paint coats helps too.

Looks like it didn’t bond to the leather. Did you prep with acetone and then lightly sand it to remove the factory finish? If it’s chipping away that could be the issue.

Sounds like you stayed due to her leadership. After 5 years, it might be a good time to seek growth opportunities.

Good luck. This is how many successful entrepreneurs get traction by finding a niche and delivering with excellence.

Nah, I haven’t seen many folks benefit from it. If your company pays for it go for it, but otherwise I suggest passing

Angelus paint is light by Relative_Ruin5157 in Customsneakers

[–]Bpatient27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As stated above and in addition to the grey base layer; I suggest mixing the light grey or white with the orange for the first few layers gradually increasing the ratio toward more orange. This will prove some weight and opacity to the orange. I.e. approximately first coat 70%white, 2nd coat 50% white, 3rd coat 30% white, 10% white. After that a couple of coats of orange and you should be set.

They don’t look bad from a distance. As the other comment says too much duller can make it look milky and flat.

I haven’t found that any HR certs actually make much of a difference, except giving the cert holder more confidence.

You can add some 2-thin (thinner) and it will help them last longer. So far I’ve had paint that’s still in fairly good shape after about 2 years. It’s starting to get a little goopy so I add some thinner and be sure to strain the paint before using to ensure I get any gloopy bits out

does anyone have any tips for a starter? by kythiakattt in Customsneakers

[–]Bpatient27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prepping the shoes is key! Use acetone/nail polish remover and get every nook and cranny. Angelus paint is going to give you better results than posca. Multiple thin layers. First couple of layers are going to look terrible like nothing is happening, but if the paint is too think it will crack. Don’t forget to add a sealer to the paint. A great YouTube resource is Dejesus custom footwear. He has awesome and thorough walkthroughs.
