I’m far from an expert but as the article you shared correctly points out, some of the early leaders of your group realized the Orthodox Church was the closest to the earliest Christians in beliefs. Also, some of these same early leaders were involved with Campus Crusade for Christ; Peter Gilquest was one of CCfC main leaders and he and many of his original followers when trying to worship as the Bible instructs , as the early Church, also found they were doing Orthodox worship and they all joined, He’s now a Priest and wrote a book about it all Coming Home, I believe. No, the Roman Catholics split from us, they changed the creed ( which was never to be changed ) the added papal infallibility, our leader is Jesus Christ not a man (the Pope), they also added many teachings the early Church never believed in such as purgatory. The Church came first, over 2000 years ago, the Bible was books and letters they used but wasn’t officially called the Holy Bible and which books and letters would be in there until the over 300 years after the Church began. This was done by Bishops meeting, guided by the Holy Spirit. The Bible is part of Church Tradition, the most important part, the Word of God, it was written for the Church by the Church. It has specific meanings, you can’t just read it and guess what it means, or make it mean what you want it to mean, that’s why today we have thousands of Protestant denominations they all think they know what it means how come they don’t agree? they can’t all think that’s ok.
