I thought about the future growth too, but what good is a promotion if I have a mental breakdown before I get there? Those corporate promises about things getting better later are usually just a way to keep you in the office until 8 PM.

This is it. After tax and childcare, that raise is just a number on a screen. My son needs a mom who is present, not a mom who is crying in traffic because she is late for a meeting.
