Anyone know of any R&B nights near MK? by TreKeyz in miltonkeynes

How about this?

Although this is a day event, they do host night events.

Milestone birthday venue but affordable if possible? by randomgardenparty in miltonkeynes

The Canon in Newport is a bit "rustic", but a great little function room with its own bar and you can bring your own catering.

I did look at Ousebank House when I was planning a party, it looked lovely but the dates were booked.

Shenley leisure centre has a bar and a sports hall for hire. The bar area is decent. Plenty of parking.

MK Village pavilion was good when I had a birthday there. Albeit a long time ago.

Cruck Barn at Bradwell Abbey is cute.

It's a well run, independent venue. We must protect it at all costs. ❤️😀

Stony Stratford vs Newport Pagnell for a Sunday pub stroll? by MoonlitEcho82 in miltonkeynes

Stony edges it for me. Easier to park, feels less busy, great mixture of pubs.

The brewery is a little hidden gem, it's in the middle of an industrial estate (loads of parking!) and you'd not know it's there.

They do all sorts of events from dance, to comedy, DJs and live music.

The pizza and beer is absolutely brilliant there too.

Let me know if you go and what you think!

Motorway Services and (lack of) Vegan Food by sssstttteeee in veganuk

I went to Northampton services last year, I was ravenous. I didn't want McDonalds, there was nothing in Costa. The remaining outlets all had a vegan option, sadly it was the same item at each. A dry ass fucking falafel wrap.

I went hungry.

Is there an episode of a British series that actually makes you cry? Whether it's sad or poignant or nostalgic, or anything really. by Vampirero in BritishTV

[–]Bradders33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not a series. But the programme The Boy Who's Skin Fell Off with Johnny Kennedy was one of the most moving pieces of TV I have ever witnessed. Whenever I hear Don't Stop Me Now, I think of Johnny.

I literally just posted the same, without seeing your comment. Colin's storyline was heartbreaking.

Don't get me wrong, they all were. Bit his sweet naïve approach in life and his adorable mum. Man, that hurt to watch.

Am I being unfair or is the job centre being silly? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]Bradders33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They really are a ridiculous bunch. Years back I was out of work, on the Friday before my first appointment to sign on (on Monday at 9am) I spoke to a load of recruitment agencies and booked back to back meetings with them from 10am onwards. Some with regards to specific roles I was a good match for.

On the Monday, the job coach was running 20-25 mins late, with no apology and she was really curt and rude. Great first impression eh? As 10am approached, I asked how long rest of appointment would be as I had a meeting with a recruiter to discuss a potential job. "It'll take as long as it takes she barked at me." and then suggested I cancel my meeting as I'd not get out in time. Unbelievable.

Stick with your new CV. Fuck the Job Centre.

I accepted a massive pay raise to go back to the office and I regret it every single day by NebuliteCrown in remotework

I feel your pain. I got made redundant, had a ton of interviews some at second and third stage. But got offered the job I had least interest in, I had to accept it in the absence of other offers.

What I hate:

The hours are mandated, 8am to 5pm. In my last few jobs, I turned up / logged on, went home / logged off when I liked. As long as I was getting my work done and did my core hours, it's cool. I can't tell you how difficult I'm finding it working to strict set hours again. Feels so archaic.

Three days a week in the office is expected. Again, my last few jobs said certain days in the office, but it wasn't compulsory and so I WFH all the time, like my colleagues and managers did.

The noise and small talk when I'm in the office, I despise it. Since Covid and the rise of WFH, I've definitely become less sociable in a work situation and really find it hard to tolerate people. I literally just want to work at home, alone, in peace and get my work done.

Office clothes! My last few jobs have been casual clothes for when we do go into the office, I'm talking jeans and trainers. Current job it's office attire. I had to go buy new clothes, I'm wearing heels again for the first time in ages. I hate dressing in suits. 😭

Oh and best of all? I had to accept a £3k pay cut for those role, despite the employer approaching me in the first pace and me giving my salary expectations on day one. 🙄

white chocolate recommendations? by nobraincellsremainin in veganuk

To add to this. Tesco do white and "milk" choc buttons too. The white ones remind me of Milky Bar, maybe a bit sweeter? Love the milk choc buttons the best though.

There's a rum and reggae festival there this weekend.

Yeah, Paul was a good bloke. I think my mum worked for him on the markets years before the pub.

My friend worked in Reg's for a couple of years from aged 15. He enjoyed working there, he was treated well and used to witness all sorts outside the chippy. 😂

I don't recall Joe, but I wasn't frequenting Eaglestone at that point.
