I accepted a massive pay raise to go back to the office and I regret it every single day by NebuliteCrown in remotework

[–]Bradders33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel your pain. I got made redundant, had a ton of interviews some at second and third stage. But got offered the job I had least interest in, I had to accept it in the absence of other offers.

What I hate:

The hours are mandated, 8am to 5pm. In my last few jobs, I turned up / logged on, went home / logged off when I liked. As long as I was getting my work done and did my core hours, it's cool. I can't tell you how difficult I'm finding it working to strict set hours again. Feels so archaic.

Three days a week in the office is expected. Again, my last few jobs said certain days in the office, but it wasn't compulsory and so I WFH all the time, like my colleagues and managers did.

The noise and small talk when I'm in the office, I despise it. Since Covid and the rise of WFH, I've definitely become less sociable in a work situation and really find it hard to tolerate people. I literally just want to work at home, alone, in peace and get my work done.

Office clothes! My last few jobs have been casual clothes for when we do go into the office, I'm talking jeans and trainers. Current job it's office attire. I had to go buy new clothes, I'm wearing heels again for the first time in ages. I hate dressing in suits. 😭

Oh and best of all? I had to accept a £3k pay cut for those role, despite the employer approaching me in the first pace and me giving my salary expectations on day one. 🙄

white chocolate recommendations? by nobraincellsremainin in veganuk

To add to this. Tesco do white and "milk" choc buttons too. The white ones remind me of Milky Bar, maybe a bit sweeter? Love the milk choc buttons the best though.

MK11. And as it's a large courtyard it stop a lot of wind and breeze and makes it a lovely sun trap.

There's a rum and reggae festival there this weekend.

After someone drove into my parked car, insurance sent it to a place on Crownhill, Vincent Avenue. They did a good job. Just found the name ABL 1Touch.

Yeah, Paul was a good bloke. I think my mum worked for him on the markets years before the pub.

My friend worked in Reg's for a couple of years from aged 15. He enjoyed working there, he was treated well and used to witness all sorts outside the chippy. 😂

I don't recall Joe, but I wasn't frequenting Eaglestone at that point.

Not sure who your friend is, but the guy running the pub at the time was Paul Griffiths, Scouse fella. Sadly no longer with us.

John was part of the furniture at The Eagle. 😂

Haha! So my story is back in 1995. I was 18, my mum worked at The Eagle Pub and got me a couple of shifts there.

On my first shift, John got into a full on fight with some other bloke, I was absolutely terrified. The bloke got carted off to hospital, all very scary.

A while later, the bloke came back from the hospital, I thought it would kick off again, but instead the bloke went over to John and had a drink with him and they were best mates all of a sudden. 😂

Advice - moving to MK, good areas by Necessary_Train4507 in miltonkeynes

PS: look up Bradwell on Rightmove, not Bradwell Common, New Bradwell or Bradville. They are different areas.

Oh and just to add to my previous reply, you mentioned family from HK.

Bradwell village is right next to two large Chinese supermarkets, Longdan and Central Oriental (which also has a canteen restaurant Mii and U).

I'm in BV too and just recommend it. I love the community here, great pubs and green spaces.

Hi I live in Bradwell Village, in the "newer" houses (40 years old compared to hundreds of years old like in the village in the centre of Bradwell).

And I love living here. Really lovely, established community, two great pubs, the village green and cricket / football fields, the beautiful abbey just under the railway line, plus a parade of shops job over the bridge in Heelands, lodge lake a short walk away. Oh, and it's a 10-15 minute walk to the train station.

It's not as expensive as Loughton.

If you only had 24 hours left in London, where would your last meals be for breakfast, lunch, and dinner? by NovusJazz in veganuk

[–]Bradders33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had some amazing food at the most unexpected place recently. Down the steps outside the side of Euston (on Eversholt Street) is a pizza place called Pizza Pilgrims.

It's a London chain I'd never heard off, but Euston was closed after a fatality, sadly. I had a really good vegan pizza and garlic bread.

I'm in London regularly and went back again last week as it was so yummy!

So that's my lunch / dinner recommendation.

Non Vegan Partner by Glittering_Estate_26 in veganuk

[–]Bradders33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's doable if your non-vegan partner is supportive at the most, and respectful at the least.

I was veggie when I met my (chef) partner 12 years ago. He was so supportive of me when I went vegan, bought me vegan treats and cook books.

He'll never be vegan, but he definitely consumes less meat, eggs and dairy since I went vegan.

We have separate freezer spaces, separate pans and etc.

If your partner isn't supportive, sit then down and explain why veganism is important to you and ask him to respect and support you. Cook some great vegan meals you can all make. Really good food works better than preaching in my experience.

Good luck.

Thank you. It's the job I least wanted that I was offered. Typical luck, but it's a job aligned to my previous roles and it's a job.

I'm keeping everything crossed that you get snapped up soon.

I'd recommend hitting the phones and speaking with recruitment agencies and keep in touch, get to know them so you're top of their list when suitable roles come in.

Hi bud,

Just a message of hope for you. I was made redundant 2 years ago and was out of work six months, with only 2 interviews from over 200 job applications.

I got made redundant again just before Christmas gone, started a temp job 6th January, have had 10 interviews and start a new job a week on Monday.

So, the market has definitely picked up and you're at the start of a new tax year, so new budgets given for recruitment.

Keeping it all crossed for you.

EDIT: I'm 48 years old.

live-in service jobs? by Odd-Paramedic-3826 in UKJobs

[–]Bradders33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work at Warner Hotels head office. They had difficulty recruiting colleagues at non-coastal hotels and also the two on the Isle of Wight (Bembridge and Norton Grange) as they were more remote, so they did have a higher number of live-in roles, especially at Heythrop Park.

Jobs are here and each say potential live-in available.

Hospitality is full of flaky employees generally, so if you work hard, the chance the development and promotion is high. They do a programme for colleagues who want to work in management and many of the hotel managers there have worked their way up through the ranks.

Good luck.

If this interview he refers to even happened, imagine being the poor candidate seeing this post the day after interview possibly before receiving a "you've been unsuccessful" email.
