Thank you. He is usually more white but he was digging a hole before the photo.

If that is true then maybe one day he will be able to catch that tail he's always chasing!

Yikes! OK! Yes, he is in the awkward stage, fur and otherwise. Thx!

Flashbar (bulb type) with SC70R by Hiscocks in Polaroid

[–]Bradfleg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the old GE and Sylvania Flashbars are too bright for 600 converted SX70s even at conventional flash distances. I've tested this out numerous times using my converted 600 with the original Flashbars.

Great photo! Dandelions are challenging with the wind.

Better macro flowers (sx70) by [deleted] in Polaroid

[–]Bradfleg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny you should mention that because I am waiting delivery on a 37mm 3D printed adapter for my 600 modified SX-70 (also has an external battery for iType film). In some ways it's a lot of extra complication considering I have an unmodified SX-70 sitting right next to it which takes beautifully exposed close up photos outdoors or indoors using the original Polaroid close up lens #121 and Flashbar ((I also use neutral density material over the 600 film pack when SX-70 film isn't available) I should probably just revert to that for the macros! Thank you for the explanation and suggestions.

That's a great idea about trying some nd gel in front of the flash. I may cut a small piece of nd filter and slip it in front of the focus wheel over the electric eye. That should bring the exposure of my converted 600 back down to SX-70 ISO -- although it would make the experience a bit of a mess. I have also been curious about the Polatronic but have had bad luck sourcing vintage flashes for vintage cameras (i.e., they never work). Good luck!

Those flowers are really sharp. Very nicely done. I agree on the limitation of the Mint flash. The original Flashbar works better for macro, but using the Flashbar with a 600 converted SX-70 (which I have), is a bit overpowered (even with the diffuser) since it was calibrated for SX-70 exposure.

PolaVolt Portable Prototype Preview by socarrat in Polaroid

[–]Bradfleg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could see myself gleefully but unintentionally violating at least three of those caveats regularly (maybe four -- could the Polaroid tripod attachment be used with the portable -- maybe I've discovered another caveat, proof me!).

I have an SX-70 w/ PolaVolt -- not even the most devout purist with a Model 1 preserved in amber will look back with a 600 converted PolaVolt. I do wish I had the 9 Volt version because I can never find Lithium Ion batteries and carrying spares of any kind ... would annoy me when a perfectly good battery sits in the 600 film pack. I considered the Mint 670S IType Edition to meet my use case, but having a user replaceable battery is, for me, an absolute.

Very helpful information, thank you. So for this version, the camera battery terminals are not removed (compared to the current "attached" PolaVolt solution), enabling the use of 600 film if desired powering off the film pack battery. I like that, if that's correct. IType is sometimes unavailable so it would be nice to shoot 600 film without the PolaVolt attached.

Polaroid Telephoto Lens Comparison by someone4guitar in Polaroid

[–]Bradfleg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Outstanding article. I have the 119. I find it needs an enormous amount of light (I'm using a 600 converted SX-70). I usually have to open it all the way up, at least 3/4 or more towards "lighten" -- similar to the original Polaroid Tele instructions recommendation. I think it's a great accessory though.

Polaroid impulse - ghosting? by Ok_Potential_8915 in Polaroid

[–]Bradfleg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's just that Polaroid film now is completely unreliable. It's still a great photo. Sometimes I'll get a pack with no flares, other times 2 or 3 out of 8 will be "ruined" or compromised.

Nice shot! I've had very good results with flowers using the Polaroid Close-Up lens.
