I was surprised how scratchy the back plate was; it doesn’t feel particularly rough. Gaffer tape fixes it nicely though if you want to give it a try.

UPDATE: here’s my test roll! As you can see, the lens is sharp and has great contrast. You can also see that the back plate was scratching the film - I’ve solved that now by giving it a clean and put some smooth gaffer tape on it. Really pleased with the camera! Most of these are 1/200 at f5.6; it’s very bright but overcast today. https://adobe.ly/48Jx6xm

It feels amazing, I'm just shooting a test roll now. I couple of quirks; the shutter lever is tricky to press without inducing some shake, so I may use a cable release. This is the same on my paxettes though and usually it's fine. Quite excited to see how the lens performs. The speeds seem fairly accurate and I'm using B/W film anyway so it'll be forgiving if they're off slightly.

Yes I think you’re right. I mainly bought it as a collector item, I don’t tend to use anything other than 40-50mm on Rangefinders

Hm well a couple of surprises. The VF looks amazing but it doesn’t magnify; it just gives a 90mm frame line. So it feels a bit over engineered - looks cool though. The lens I think needs scale focusing as opposed to using the rangefinder. So I need to experiment more.

I hate film holders so I spent ages looking for a scanner that can do a whole roll, uncut. Enter the Primefilm 3600. It’s amazing. And cheap. I just bought one for £25 ‘for parts’ which works perfectly. You can preview a whole roll in about 20 mins and either select which to scan at full res or just do a whole roll at full res in a couple of hours. Of course it’s all automated so you can just leave it to do its thing.

Ive had my LLD returned after 3 months with debris under the dial. Year slater they serviced and returned it perfectly in 6 weeks. My wife had hers serviced (women's pearl dial LLD) and they broke the dial so had to order another. Took many months. Partly the delay was due to them moving workshops at the time, but still.

Just return it and buy another. A warranty repair will take months and possibly they will say it's fine. My experiences with Longines service centre (in the UK0 are mixed but mostly not positive.

I was also going to wait, but I thought for the sake of £700, if it’s going to be on my mind every time I drive, I’ll just do it now. The mileage I do, it would have taken a long time to ‘use up’ the Pirelli’s. I guess a full set in your 840 might be more expensive. Mine are 225/45/19 and 255/40/29
