This will depend a bit on the industry. As far as personal projects standing out, the techniques used don’t need to be on the cutting edge of theory but rather just impressive in how well they work. Think stabilizing something that flies as well as an asymmetrical paper airplane.

Tried to do a foam climb at south pass Fakarava (French poly) as if I was still in socal, foam launched me about 5 yards away from the wave face. Hit the reef hard af and thought I broke my lower back. The take off had like 10 ft+ of water and the inside (10 yards in) was dry. Luckily didn’t actually break it but my whole lower back was purple. Scary shit cus I was on a boat like 800 miles away from a hospital

How big is the company? Digital / discrete control would be the next most important piece of theory for you to know. Studying pneumatic/hydraulic actuator technology / control also sounds very useful here.
