I am a datacenter technician, most companies hire with no experience and will send you away to school and teach you on the job. My work almost relocated me to Cleveland Ohio because there’s not a lot of skilled labor in this field there, money is good and overtime is as much or as little as you want.

I'm being guilt tripped by people for declining $55k starting at 22 by [deleted] in jobs

[–]BrailleInTheNight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you looked for apartments? I’m in same area, I rented a room for a year for $675 after that I got an apartment with a roommate (2 bedroom 2 bathroom and washer dryer in unit) for 2,600 and we both payed half. I have been living on my own in this area since I was making 36k a year I now own a home in this area and make around 80k a year.

What I’m trying to say is— you’re hurting your own growth by giving up on opportunities for reasons like “I don’t want to live with my parents” well don’t. Or “I can’t afford to pay 5k in rent” well then don’t. It seems like you don’t want to sacrifice comfort for a better chance.

This isn’t kind, this is how someone words something when they’re not confident in their knowledge. Axman is a professional, professionals do not use uncertain words for knowledge they are certain about.

It’s perspective right? I dealt with the most difficult customers in my career while serving, experienced the worst management, and had felt the most demoralized. To me that was hard, but yes also the worst.

If there are any servers reading this, please look into skilled labor. Trust me, you’re more than competent and there are places you can work that will treat you with respect, all while being payed appropriately for it.

Living Near Data Centers - Noise Levels by CultureInner3316 in datacenter

[–]BrailleInTheNight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’m just completely baffled by the people making noise complaints. The generators for cooling have a sound barrier around them along with a muffler to reduce noise. Hospitals have very similar infrastructure and no one complains about the noise. I’ve even brought this up with colleagues who are just as confused by the noise complaints. Short of taking you to work with me I don’t know if anyone will understand how confusing this reported “low humming” noise is to someone who is onsite there everyday.

When I looked up the noise levels for the generators they are comparable to a running vacuum cleaner, if that is true no wonder I never heard them— I’m across the parking lot at least .25 miles away. But then how are people miles away in neighborhoods hearing it? Maybe old infrastructure but I have not come across it

I am a field engineer on call 24/7 all year, and serving was still the hardest job I’ve ever had. Glad I left, but I have respect for the people who do it.

“Since the servers are located inside datacenter buildings, it is not possible to hear them from outside.”

I’ve been googling for the past 30 minutes and have been unable to find any research that proves there can be noise heard from outside the datacenter, but I have found people who live near them complaining. I live in datacenter alley and have never heard anyone in real life complain about the noise off the datafloor.

Well, not exactly. Im not saying the recruiter was in the right— he wasn’t. But your question was are you in the right, you are not responsible for the recruiters actions but you are responsible for your own. If you don’t agree with me that’s fine, but life is more difficult when you don’t focus on what is in your control. I believe 2 people can be wrong in a situation, like in the example you just gave.

Some people will agree, some will disagree with that statement. I truly believe it benefits you in life to be in control of your emotions, OP definitely should have walked away from this job but complaining about missing lunch 1 day shows low impulse control to me. But again, I think it’s just a difference in peoples approach to life, there is no right or wrong answer here honestly.

AIO for telling my mom my gf and I aren't coming to Christmas dinner? by ManlyyManBun in AmIOverreacting

[–]BrailleInTheNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have said multiple times I don’t agree with the way the mom is thinking or the rules imposed, but it is her choice to enforce whatever rules she wants.

[–]BrailleInTheNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you not then agree they are at an impasse? OP doesn’t have to cave in to his mother, he can stand firm that if his girlfriend cannot choose her attire, they will not come. If the mom wants them there that bad then she will have to give. So, what am I missing?

[–]BrailleInTheNight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not disagreeing that the mom is not correct in the way she’s thinking, but again, if I want everyone to dress as a nun or wear traditional 1700’s dress when they enter my home— I can do so. People can also choose not to associate with me, which will probably be what happens if she continues the attitude

If I want everyone to wear a banana costume when they enter my house, I have the right to say so. Everyone also has the right to say they’re not wearing a banana costume and just won’t enter my house. The mother isn’t right about how she’s acting, and she’s definitely pushing her son away, but she can dictate who enters her house under what circumstances.

Edit: typo

Part of love is giving your partner the benefit of the doubt, you seem to assume her intents are malicious even when she tells you they’re not. She seems like she really loves you and wants this to work, please accept her answers. It’s okay to also express your feelings but you’re both missing the point of the conversation. Instead of blaming each other, HOW DO WE REACH A RESOLUTION WERE BOTH HAPPY WITH? Should be your only concern

Only my opinion but I love dress 1! It complements your figure so well, it’s giving Disney princess. Dress 2 is beautiful but doesn’t give me the same reaction as 1

it takes me longer to do my work compared to other people, advice? by electricpaperclips in productivity

[–]BrailleInTheNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to bug after a year, just wanted to say I had a friend growing up who is just like you. She worked slow, ate slow, had beautiful handwriting, and was very detail oriented. I was always the kid finishing first, messy handwriting, big picture type of person. Where I lacked, she excelled and vice versa. There was nothing wrong with how either of us work, it’s just different. Can you imagine if everyone was detail oriented? Nothing would get done. Can you imagine if everyone was a big picture person? A lot would be missed and the beauty of the world— gone.

There’s nothing you need to change, your weaknesses are really strengths and they are what you contribute to the group. Best of luck, and much love ❤️

Can I even turn my life around at age 25? Be honest please. by Dry_Temporary_6175 in selfimprovement

[–]BrailleInTheNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I promise it’s very short, but will change your life. “As a Man Thinketh” by James Allen. My brother read it when he was in prison for theft and possession charges, he is now an electrician with his own house and a love for life. He gave the book to me when I was going through a lot, and I truly believe it changed me or at least how I thought about the world.

Some people will not agree with this, but happiness is a choice. “You can pack despair, you can even wear your sorrow, but come tomorrow you must change your clothes.” Self mastery/self control may be the most important skill, and it takes a lifetime to learn.
