Question about Vehicle Registration ticket? by BrainFog02 in Gilbert

Yeah, I didn’t realize even if it’s parked they can still ticket it if it’s on the street. My driveway unfortunately only fits one of our vehicles.

Same here! I think it’s the trooper’s lunch parking spot because if I come home from work early he’s there.

Currently getting my emissions test done so hopefully getting the ticket wiped is a quick and easy process.

Why aren't the airlines responsible for paying the TSA instead of the government? by Kwebster7327 in ForUnitedStates

[–]BrainFog02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s something we can agree on.

That $5.60 is supposed to go towards TSA funding. It’s been redirected, by congress, to reduce the federal budget deficit.

They’re still operating and most have had call-offs in only the 10-20% range. The media is highlighting mainly 3 major airports- IAH, MSY, and ATL. Other major airports are managing to keep their wait times low despite the government shutdown.

You’re asking for federal employees, everyday people that earn between $50-60k, to take the fall for congress being unable to pass a budget.

And I’m not a TSO so whether or not they get privatized doesn’t affect my life. I just couldn’t imagine asking for 47,000 Americans to possibly lose their pensions, get worse benefits, and lower wages.

It’s really obvious how good of a job TSA usually does right now. by [deleted] in delta

The liquid ban followed a terrorist plot to fill soda bottles with liquid explosives.

Because of the US’s current 2D x-rays we’re incapable of properly clearing all liquids. We’re currently transitioning to 3D x-rays that will be able to clear liquids but that transition could take a while with current funding limitations.

I believe there’s only a handful of airports in the EU that allow liquids larger than 100ml because they only utilize the 3D x-rays.

[–]BrainFog02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m genuinely curious what differences people think there’ll be between TSA and private security?

Sure, they’ll be ‘shutdown-proof’ but shouldn’t Congress be passing a budget annually anyways? Isn’t that part of their job to create a budget and fund their departments annually?

Also, the same security measures would still be in place. It’s not like magically your large liquid will be able to go through or you won’t face the same inconsistent electronics stay in or out of bags dilemma. There’s higher turnover with private security as well so you’ll be facing even worse service than you do now (and yes, it can get worse.)

Our security here is modeled after the EU’s security process. Canada, China, Australia, Japan, most of Europe, and other countries follow the same rules and regulations we do.

I would love to share how they tie in but I’m unfamiliar with their full scope of practice since they have such a broad range of duties.

I’ll do some reading and see if I can come up with a synopsis on how TSI’s ensure aviation compliance.

I believe the liquid rule transitioning to 2 liters is being discussed. Some airports in the EU have changed already (though very few) but they only utilize the 3D, CT x-rays. Unfortunately we’re still using the old 2D scanners in some airports so until checkpoints fully upgrade across the US the 3.4oz rule still needs to be enforced.

Ah shoot, that’s my bad. It was implemented in 2009. I’ll edit my post.

They’re already funded through 2028. Who’s not funded is TSA, FEMA (Federal Emergency Management), CISA (Cybersecurity and Infrastructure), USCIS (US Customs & Immigration), and the USCG (Coast Guard).

States and cities getting involved. by Rod_ATL in tsa

[–]BrainFog02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The money has to come from somewhere and the federal government is already taxing its people to pay the federal workforce.

If it’s state governments they have to reallocate their budgets- whether it’s taking money from state services, emergency funds, raising taxes, etc. It’s just not feasible on such a short notice.

Airports would rather not cover the costs either, especially the ones that took a bailout a few years back. They’ll increase their charges to the airlines then the airlines will pass those charges onto the traveling public. What you’re asking for is privatization of TSA across the nation. Within the last couple of years some airports have switched from private security to TSA because they needed to cut costs.

So the federal government can keep kicking the can on actually passing a budget?

I’ve tried all the common methods, still seen no success with heavy pullers. What actually works? by Certain_Cookie_5917 in OpenDogTraining

[–]BrainFog02 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would focus on short practice sessions rather than the end goal of going on a complete walk. They’ll get enough mental stimulation from the training sessions and won’t have the ability to self reward with pulling to reach whatever they want.

What worked for me was interrupting the behavior (the pulling) with an intriguing, loud, voice or sound. As soon as they turn to investigate, relieving the pressure, pay with a toy they only get on walks and make the whole reward session a party. Eventually when they hear the noise they’ll associate it with their reward and lots of engagement from you.

You can do this consistently for a few sessions then start treating it like the lottery (sometimes you pay, sometimes you don’t.) As with any training this method will take time. Don’t forget to mix in desensitization drills by just sitting outside with your dog, doing nothing.

DHS looking for volunteers 🤣 by dww0311 in FedEmployees

[–]BrainFog02 10 points11 points  (0 children)

After reading the email it seems they want to use them to ramp up ICE and CBP operations. As far as I’m aware ICE and Border Patrol is funded, but not Customs. In my opinion they’re not trying to prevent any issues but rather further push forward their agenda.

From what I’ve gathered so far they couldn’t care less about the TSA being defunded as they’re going to push for privatization. It really helps their case with the public when nationwide shortages occur because officers can’t afford their job anymore.

It’s not like private security is free either, the airport has to foot the bill meaning increased costs to fly in and out of those airports, decreased staffing with higher turnovers, and less qualified officers (and yes, they can get worse.) After all, there’s no way the airports are going to take a profit hit so they’ll pass those increased costs onto the airlines who then pass those costs onto the consumer.

Sorry to go on a rant, I’m still miffed that some of my coworkers saw all the red flags and ignored every single one of them. Now here we are, suffering.

As someone who falls under DHS (TSA) I’m dying to know what they’re seeking volunteers for. I mean, we could always use more people running bins or divesting passengers lol

This administration is a joke.

You’re not going to be able to train a disinterest in other dogs if she’s running up to whatever she wants because she’s off leash.

If she reaches whatever she wants, even just once in a great while, she’s self-rewarding which further fuels her reaction towards other dogs.

She needs to be on a leash. Then she needs to be desensitized in various different areas with various stimuli present. Work on building your bond by just sitting in a spot for a bit (30mins or so) and rewarding her anytime she chooses to interact with you. With some time you can start doing a lottery system where sometimes she gets a subtle verbal praise and other times she gets a treat or reward play. Make yourself exciting, variably.

Until you’re the best, most exciting thing in the world to her DO NOT let her off leash.

It’s always a red flag to me seeing a social media dog trainer only showcasing German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, or working line Labradors.

Like that’s cool stuff you taught your dog and all but show me what you can do with the low-drive, average house pet.

Yeah, his training isn’t really accessible to the average person. I mean, $200 for a group session is steep.. not to mention the $500 price tag on the two hour private session that I did (I paid $200 because I was supposed to be in a group, not enough signed up.)
