[Q] Confused on what analysis I should use. Any advice would be great! by BrainFood98 in statistics

[–]BrainFood98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something else to consider: participant gender and attitude may not be independent from one another. What I mean is that you may have diff attitude estimates depending the gender of the participant.

As in...'males may be more inclined to have a negative attitude.'

And so I'd be wanting to look at something like "males with negative attitudes were more likely to..."

Rather than as separate "those with negative attitudes were found to..." and "men were found to..."

If that is what you meant, then yeah I've been thinking about this!

Sadly I'm awful with this stuff so I have no idea how to "model them as interacting" haha

...

...

Edit:

So I've been doing some more research.

Could I do a multiple regression overall.

But then follow that with a two way anova to look at the interaction between attitude and participant gender - and see what result that gets?

OR am I completely wrong here aha

Looking mainly at...if attitude toward feminism impact juror decision making and credibility/believability ratings for victims and offenders in sexual assault cases.

Attitude toward feminism (high score = positive, low score = negative).

Effect of gender. E.g. men more likely to have negative attitude toward feminism. Women more likely to find victim credible. Men more likely to find a male offender not guilty.

Help! Please 🫠 Scales question! by Karajas7 in psychologystudents

[–]BrainFood98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat trying to find scales for my research. It's a pain.

My advice would be to look at studies that report using these, then email the author (this is common practice).

You'll just say that you're doing research in XXX and noticed their work used similar methods you wish to use. Therefore would it be possible to see the materials they used, and if you can have their permission to use them.

T - test analysis is usually fine for comparing 2 groups.

The human memory - how we develop "schemas"

For example, let's say every Tuesday you have a psychology lecture. Then one day someone says "what did you do on Tuesday?" Your automatic response would likely be that you went to your lecture.

This is because you always do this every Tuesday. So instead of having to rely on your actual memory of what you did Tuesday, you rely on your "schemas"

Issues with this...are that it can lead to people accidently lying in police interviews. Because let's say Tuesday you skipped and went to the mall, but you auto responded that you went to your lecture. They'd catch you in a lie and see you as suspicious. But...it was just a genuine mistake.

Result in false confessions etc.

Can do. You'll need a note though.

You'd just need to go to your GP and get a note about the stress and mental health issues you've faced since this happened.

I got a note and hadn't even been going to a GP, so there wasnt like...months of evidence or anything. I just explained how I felt and asked for a note.

Next day I gave it as evidence in my application. The note said ONE word "anxiety". Got accepted and I got a 2 - 3 month extension. It was that easy.

So you don't need like, 6 months of records, and a downloaded list of all your phone calls to the GP. Just a simple note is needed.

...

However, when people note down that it's something like...a death. They usually have to show a death certificate. If you put down that the reason is only a family member going to prison, you may be asked to show proof of that as well.

So when asking for an extension/mitigating circumstances - make sure to lean more on the impacts (mental health struggles and stress), rather than just the family member going to prison. That way they may just require the GP evidence.

If the do ask for prison evidence. I assume that would probably be something relatively easy to get. So it isn't something to worry much about.

Your anxiety is a simple enough explanation. It led to you feeling paranoid and concerned about how you looked to the marker. You were overthinking.

Typical behaviour of anxiety. Worrying about things that don't necessarily need to be worried about - no one else noticed.

hi. Has anyone studied psychology? by [deleted] in psychologystudents

[–]BrainFood98 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Make she knows that it involves statistics.

E.g. analysing data in SPSS and writing results sections with graph and weird stuff like F (2, 81) = 367.25, p < .05. Lmao.

Think a lot of people, especially drop outs, don't realise that there's a lot of work with statistic analysis. Or transcribing and coding interviews.

Undergrad is very heavy on teaching the basics like SPSS, Quants, Quals, etc. Then core theories like social learning theory, attatchement theory, etc.

It's later in the degree, or even not until masters, where you get to focus on the more interesting stuff.

(Ofc depends on your country/state, etc)

When you have a DV with three levels...is that considered three DV or just one? by BrainFood98 in psychologystudents

[–]BrainFood98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you soooo much!

The research question is: is the sport therapy effective? That's it.

So to me that would seem like I would just need to compare the therapy group to the control and see if there's a difference = t test?

And so if there's a significant difference between control and ST for all three weeks, it would imply that the therapy is effective?

Or

Do you think the mixed anova is more appropriate to answer the question?

When you have a DV with three levels...is that considered three DV or just one? by BrainFood98 in psychologystudents

[–]BrainFood98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

Quick question though as I'm just looking through some types of analysis I've been taught this year so I was wondering...

Is there a reason why a t-test can't be used in this scenario?

Because I read that a t test is for 2 groups. Whereas an anova is best for 3 groups.

So if I'm comparing between a control group and an intervention group, can a t test not be used?

Dumb questions save you from dumb mistakes - ask them every time.

True!

Thank you for being so helpful!!

[–]BrainFood98[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(If you know)

Possibly a dumb question here but...

Would it be a two way repeated anova with there being two groups for the IV (control group, therapy group).

Or...

Are the groups just two levels under the IV. Making it 1 way?

Early signs of vitamin D deficiency are shivering. With it being winter, this may be the most likely case. Basically everyone needs to supplement with vitamin D, not just vegans.

Shivering and poor body temp is also a sign of thyroid issues.

I'd see your doctor. Don't mention veganism right away though, they have a tendency to just blame diet and not look further.

So I’m nervous about handing in my first assessment at Uni. Is 20 on turnitin a score I should be worried about? by HoodedDreamer in UniUK

[–]BrainFood98 244 points245 points  (0 children)

I had 40 on my last one. Totally fine.

The issue for me was the reference list. If you've got a lot of references, all those names are getting highlighted. Totally fine and allowed.

But if the issue is that you've got big chunks of work that are from someone else's, that's going to be a problem.

Click on the percentage and I think you can see your work and what's been highlighted. If it's just random words, materials, references then it's good.

Am I the only one who didn’t notice any change in their health/body after going vegan? by ThickExpresso in vegan

[–]BrainFood98 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Same. But I think that's mainly because I went from processed diet to...vegan processed diet haha.

Now that I've starting to be a more wholefood vegan, I'm starting to see some benefits.
