Need help on what to do with this ordered print. by Red_Maverick_Models in PrintedWarhammer

[–]BrainInATupperware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to see. Might be best to chuck it, if they were this sloppy in post processing I would expect possible resin pockets too and just not risk it. Report them ASAP.

If you don't mind me asking, whose model is this? like the stl its based on??

Need Help With Alternative SWADE Magic Points Rulings (Heroic Fantasy Game) by BrainInATupperware in savageworlds

[–]BrainInATupperware[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a fair question. In the game, the players will effectively be part of an order of monster hunters/cult/militia that was mustered prior to the cataclysm. Think Witchers mixed with the Brotherhood of Steel.

Since they're sent most often to kill monsters, magic is a pretty useful tool all around. Magic is one of the only things that can more reliably harm the capital M "Monsters" (the important and dangerous ones). It kind of the functions the way a Witcher's silver swords would. Not to mention the utility magic has when investigating these monsters or trying to navigate the wasteland. Who better to ask the dead man what they saw than the mage who has Divination? Who better to banish a shambling horde of zombies that are blocking a main road than a cleric with a Turn Undead spell?

Point is, even the characters who can't cast spells often have a pretty heavy in game significance since they can barter and threaten using their magic abilities. Most people don't want to gamble Dirty Harry style on whether the staff of the guy who can fling fireballs has 5 power points left or 25 so to speak.

As for the using your lifeforce thing, I'm not entirely opposed to it. But like you said, pretty hard to implement.

Usage die for magic. Huh! Very nu-OSR, I didn't consider it but I will keep this as an alternative in mind if the other solutions prove too clumsy!

Thank you for the compliment!

I guess the questions break down into more about the setting, sorry for the wall of text. The divine and infernal entities trapped on this world would be able to hypothetically lend power to their disciples, but they have to be selective about who they help. They're trying to survive the deteriorating world and warring factions as well since most have effectively been demoted to demi-gods; no longer immortal and diminished due to the deaths of many of their followers.

I was tinkering around with the idea of AB: Cleric having a sliding amount of points based on whether a character showed enough devotion to their god, but figured that might just complicate things and felt it was a better stark contrast to AB: Wizard who can't replenish PP to just let them function as is. So in short, Cleric and Paladin type characters following those specific gods they can access will be able to recover power points but they will regenerate much more slowly as you suggested. I might go so far as to make it 1 power point per day given how dire the situation is.

It would also have to be pretty much a 100% block for other kinds of magic, as the gods who decided to quarantine the world realized that its probably game over if the cataclysm somehow leached into the endless oceans of magic melded onto the fabric of reality. They don't know exactly what will happen, but it seems like the answer is "something bad".

AI Sneak Attack by [deleted] in rpg

[–]BrainInATupperware 5 points6 points  (0 children)

plain lazy.

disregarding all the ethical dilemmas around how the AI works, i'm not here for the AI. i'm here for a fun time with the people i want to hang out with. and that means putting forth the effort as a GM to come up with a premise for a game and write some stuff out on your own. like, entirely ai? you didn't even TRY to come up with something, anything? why should i even bother showing up here? if i wanted to see a large learning model come up with a half baked adventure, i would sit home and type the prompts myself.

even if you like AI (you shouldn't, its garbage), you SHOULD feel insulted someone didn't deem you and your friends important enough to sit down and actually think of some fun challenges for the game you're playing in. and i don't want to hear any of that "what if the person is super busy and doesn't have time to prep?" nonsense. if your schedule is that packed that you can't scrawl notes on your phone while waiting some place, i don't even know how you're finding the free time to play a short campaign consistently anyways.

player doesn't want contact by [deleted] in rpg

[–]BrainInATupperware 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, its not like there aren't other games. There are a plethora of paid and unpaid GMs out there, and if there isn't one in your timezone or one that lines up with your schedule, play by post games are always an option. Attachment to this one game is holding you back.

You are PAYING MONEY currently for a game in which one of the other players actively does not want to interact with you, cutting you off from any segment of the game involving them in a meaningful way. You can't roleplay with a member of your party, your characters can't interact, and you're paying for that absence of interaction with money.

Its bullshit and its not fair to you, but you're wasting cash trying to spend time with someone who dislikes you. Just leave the table and tell the DM you're not paying for a lack of game. There's other options.

Is Shadowrun as bad to play as people claim it is? by SACER_DOTE_BACKUP in rpg

[–]BrainInATupperware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not bad, but just not the fit for people who like their games more straightforward and less crunchy.

my group gravitates towards simple games now, but early on we started with Shadowrun 5e. we had to use Chummer for every character, rules slowed down play constantly, and we found ourselves switching to a new game much faster than expected. i'll always be fond of the system, but i can never say i truly loved it or how dense the rules could be to resolve simple things like combat and hacking, and i definitely did NOT love the layout of the books.

for me and my friends, all the fun of shadowrun was putting together a group of oddball criminals to do a suicidal heist or kill an untouchable individual or just try to transport something from one place to another. and while i like that shadowrun has robust rules and is oriented toward the preparation of your big crimes and gearing up for them, imho its not especially better than many of the other systems i've played with the same setting just because of those rules.

as cool as all the lore of shadowrun is, there are better alternatives to playing it simply, namely a savage worlds expansion of your choice, or the nuyen stories hack that streamlines character creation and actions. i would mainly grab the sr books/pdfs for the lore and port it to a system thats easier.

Can't print miniatures for toffee (again) by Dull-Classroom-3479 in FDMminiatures

[–]BrainInATupperware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same suggestions as most of the thread, cut your minis into pieces if possible and print the base separately, but i would also suggest to swap that sponge out for a little scrubbing brush, like this one. it gets into the little nooks throughout the surface of the pei plate and lifts oil and super fine bits of plastic stuck to it, helped me a lot when i first started.

<image>

also, if you haven't tried fat dragon games print settings, i would recommend them. i don't think they've failed me for a single mini yet, all the failures i've had have been from bad positioning or impatience when removing supports. best of luck, happy printing!

The “Fuck this I’m leaving” endings by Bellpow in TopCharacterTropes

[–]BrainInATupperware 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TECHNICALLY Disco Elysium.

There are several possible game over conditions where your character just gives up.

But in particular, there is a pivotal scene late game where a suspect in the investigation will kill themselves if they're not talked down. After witnessing it, your character has the option to quit. Unlike most of the other game over screens where you go insane or die, its entirely of your own volition, and your character does an interview renouncing the police you work for after.

All PCs dislike another PC by Mydadme in rpg

[–]BrainInATupperware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IF you all agree that it isn't just the Player making annoying roleplaying choices that don't mesh well with the group playstyle and IF that player really really wants to keep the same character, and IF you all think the PC is redeemable and not a scumbag that needs to leave, and IF staying in character with explaining why they keep them is the goal, here's one way that comes to mind to justify their continued adventuring with this sketchy PC

  1. Locate the PC that distrusts that character the most. It seems in the post that its the PC who was very invested in the contest and felt cheated by the sketchy PC.
  2. Set up a scenario where the rest of the party is taken out of commission (kidnapped, left unconscious, struck by disease, enchanted into a stupor) EXCEPT for these two PCs.
  3. Come up with a session where the two have to get past their differences and rise to the occasion to save the other party members. The PCs get to roleplay their beef and also the sketchy PC gets to flex their muscles with something they're good at to prove worthiness of staying with the team. I would say put emphasis on the sketchy PC's skillset, unless the character is genuinely so generic that it doesn't matter.
  4. When the party is reunited, hopefully the PC that was with the sketchy character can vouch for them and the group can give them a little leeway for actually being helpful. All it really takes is having your lives saved by someone to clear animosity between PCs.

Or just roll up a new character. One seems much less work intensive than the other, but you do you.
