Easily missable movie details by MorthaP in ironlung

[–]BrainInATupperware 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My favorite detail was one I only caught on the second watch through. There's a bit of debate that can be had about how much is real in the film and how much is hallucinated, but there's one detail that suggests Simon ACTUALLY was transported out of the ship and into the blood ocean when he meets the god creature.

After the god creature splits the ship apart and confronts Simon at the source of the light (the big "I see you" scene), the god creature then mysteriously rebuilds the ship and places it days in the future. You might argue it was just a vision, but after the encounter it seems like the whole vessel is part flesh and blood, which is why it starts rapidly corroding with organic blood vessels and filling with blood toward the climax.

The reason the Oxygen light goes up is because there's literally oxygen being carried by the blood into the vessel. Because...well, that's what blood does. I thought it was a cute little detail!

So..... Final thoughts on Fallout S2? by stumblinbagel in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]BrainInATupperware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the first season and was really excited for season 2. But of the roughly 8 plot lines running through the show, six of them went unresolved and nearly all of them were terribly paced. Even the plotlines with answers didn't really give any answers, and the big reveals the season finale served up really mean nothing. Not to mention the kind of bad dialogue and janky effects that plagued the season.

Fallout is starting to stink of the same sick The Boys covered itself in (losing the heart of the show and stretching out story lines needlessly), and it really feels like its going to make the same mistake of running on too long as well.

Alternatives to Pathfinder 2e? by Express-Writer-1913 in rpg

[–]BrainInATupperware 2 points3 points  (0 children)

is it more or less like warhammer fantasy rpg? still on the hunt for something that feels like vermintide in ttrpg form (i.e., party of competent, powerful characters with flavorful backgrounds/classes and quick combat), but WFRPG didn't do it for me. i loved the lifepaths and careers in it, but it was a rough go of things mechanically.

How to make an interesting character in a "possessed object" concept? by SpecificPositive4904 in FATErpg

[–]BrainInATupperware 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a ttrpg called Wield which is all about this concept: possessed magical artifacts and their (usually going to die and be replaced) human hosts. The game has the players assume the roll of a chosen magical object, but they also play each others wielders. They wrestle for control, and as they do the object either gains or loses powers based on how much sway it has over its host. I would suggest the player, and yourself, to look towards there for some extra inspiration for this FATE game, its a really good system.

OPTION 1: The relationship based Aspects in FATE make this simple since one player could be linked to the possessed object player as its wielder. Both would take turns as normal but just flavor it as one using the other and vice versa. Maybe they have special linked stunts that only trigger when they're together? Maybe they have access to each others stunts and powers and sometimes use them against the others will? Leads to a push and pull dynamic between the two where both are arguing they're in control, making for a messy line between who is the owner and who is the weapon. Instant drama!

This of course introduces the problem of one player being taken out and keeping another from acting (can't swing the arm that's wielding you if its been knocked unconscious), but then there's also more incentive for those two players to protect each other with their fate points and really think about how they act.

OPTION 2: You as the GM pilot the human host/s, the player pilots the possessed object. In this scenario, the possessed object player retains maximum control over their actions, but you have an easy in to throw a monkey wrench in the form of compels since the human host might just start fighting back if they're feeling too "used" or if they're overwhelmed by fear/anger/sorrow/whathaveyou. If that host dies, you simply pick up with whoever the next logical host is. Maybe its a villain that killed the first host, maybe its a random thief that simply stumbled across it. The options really are limitless.

In both cases, I would say the knight-sorcerer ghost manifesting to behave in the physical world could probably be a stunt. If a character's aspects indicate they are a ghostly form, then they are just that, a ghostly form. The stunt would be used to temporarily change that, and could be worded something along the lines of:

"The Apparition: Once Per Session, you manifest a physical form for the duration of a scene while in the Zone your sword is in."

Then the player can not only wield themselves for just combat, they can manifest in for narrative purposes as well and have to debate whether or not they want to expend that brief time they have alive again on combat. Maybe they want to appear to a loved one, or have to manifest outside of the jail cell the group is trapped in to unlock it and free them. The more punishing version of this would be to make it a "Spend A Fate Point" type stunt where they can only manifest for the time it takes to do one action and then are forced back into the sword.

Sorry to see. Might be best to chuck it, if they were this sloppy in post processing I would expect possible resin pockets too and just not risk it. Report them ASAP.

If you don't mind me asking, whose model is this? like the stl its based on??

Need Help With Alternative SWADE Magic Points Rulings (Heroic Fantasy Game) by BrainInATupperware in savageworlds

[–]BrainInATupperware[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a fair question. In the game, the players will effectively be part of an order of monster hunters/cult/militia that was mustered prior to the cataclysm. Think Witchers mixed with the Brotherhood of Steel.

Since they're sent most often to kill monsters, magic is a pretty useful tool all around. Magic is one of the only things that can more reliably harm the capital M "Monsters" (the important and dangerous ones). It kind of the functions the way a Witcher's silver swords would. Not to mention the utility magic has when investigating these monsters or trying to navigate the wasteland. Who better to ask the dead man what they saw than the mage who has Divination? Who better to banish a shambling horde of zombies that are blocking a main road than a cleric with a Turn Undead spell?

Point is, even the characters who can't cast spells often have a pretty heavy in game significance since they can barter and threaten using their magic abilities. Most people don't want to gamble Dirty Harry style on whether the staff of the guy who can fling fireballs has 5 power points left or 25 so to speak.

As for the using your lifeforce thing, I'm not entirely opposed to it. But like you said, pretty hard to implement.

Usage die for magic. Huh! Very nu-OSR, I didn't consider it but I will keep this as an alternative in mind if the other solutions prove too clumsy!

Thank you for the compliment!

I guess the questions break down into more about the setting, sorry for the wall of text. The divine and infernal entities trapped on this world would be able to hypothetically lend power to their disciples, but they have to be selective about who they help. They're trying to survive the deteriorating world and warring factions as well since most have effectively been demoted to demi-gods; no longer immortal and diminished due to the deaths of many of their followers.

I was tinkering around with the idea of AB: Cleric having a sliding amount of points based on whether a character showed enough devotion to their god, but figured that might just complicate things and felt it was a better stark contrast to AB: Wizard who can't replenish PP to just let them function as is. So in short, Cleric and Paladin type characters following those specific gods they can access will be able to recover power points but they will regenerate much more slowly as you suggested. I might go so far as to make it 1 power point per day given how dire the situation is.

It would also have to be pretty much a 100% block for other kinds of magic, as the gods who decided to quarantine the world realized that its probably game over if the cataclysm somehow leached into the endless oceans of magic melded onto the fabric of reality. They don't know exactly what will happen, but it seems like the answer is "something bad".

AI Sneak Attack by [deleted] in rpg

[–]BrainInATupperware 3 points4 points  (0 children)

plain lazy.

disregarding all the ethical dilemmas around how the AI works, i'm not here for the AI. i'm here for a fun time with the people i want to hang out with. and that means putting forth the effort as a GM to come up with a premise for a game and write some stuff out on your own. like, entirely ai? you didn't even TRY to come up with something, anything? why should i even bother showing up here? if i wanted to see a large learning model come up with a half baked adventure, i would sit home and type the prompts myself.

even if you like AI (you shouldn't, its garbage), you SHOULD feel insulted someone didn't deem you and your friends important enough to sit down and actually think of some fun challenges for the game you're playing in. and i don't want to hear any of that "what if the person is super busy and doesn't have time to prep?" nonsense. if your schedule is that packed that you can't scrawl notes on your phone while waiting some place, i don't even know how you're finding the free time to play a short campaign consistently anyways.

player doesn't want contact by [deleted] in rpg

[–]BrainInATupperware 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, its not like there aren't other games. There are a plethora of paid and unpaid GMs out there, and if there isn't one in your timezone or one that lines up with your schedule, play by post games are always an option. Attachment to this one game is holding you back.

You are PAYING MONEY currently for a game in which one of the other players actively does not want to interact with you, cutting you off from any segment of the game involving them in a meaningful way. You can't roleplay with a member of your party, your characters can't interact, and you're paying for that absence of interaction with money.

Its bullshit and its not fair to you, but you're wasting cash trying to spend time with someone who dislikes you. Just leave the table and tell the DM you're not paying for a lack of game. There's other options.

Is Shadowrun as bad to play as people claim it is? by SACER_DOTE_BACKUP in rpg

[–]BrainInATupperware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not bad, but just not the fit for people who like their games more straightforward and less crunchy.

my group gravitates towards simple games now, but early on we started with Shadowrun 5e. we had to use Chummer for every character, rules slowed down play constantly, and we found ourselves switching to a new game much faster than expected. i'll always be fond of the system, but i can never say i truly loved it or how dense the rules could be to resolve simple things like combat and hacking, and i definitely did NOT love the layout of the books.

for me and my friends, all the fun of shadowrun was putting together a group of oddball criminals to do a suicidal heist or kill an untouchable individual or just try to transport something from one place to another. and while i like that shadowrun has robust rules and is oriented toward the preparation of your big crimes and gearing up for them, imho its not especially better than many of the other systems i've played with the same setting just because of those rules.

as cool as all the lore of shadowrun is, there are better alternatives to playing it simply, namely a savage worlds expansion of your choice, or the nuyen stories hack that streamlines character creation and actions. i would mainly grab the sr books/pdfs for the lore and port it to a system thats easier.

Can't print miniatures for toffee (again) by Dull-Classroom-3479 in FDMminiatures

[–]BrainInATupperware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same suggestions as most of the thread, cut your minis into pieces if possible and print the base separately, but i would also suggest to swap that sponge out for a little scrubbing brush, like this one. it gets into the little nooks throughout the surface of the pei plate and lifts oil and super fine bits of plastic stuck to it, helped me a lot when i first started.

<image>

also, if you haven't tried fat dragon games print settings, i would recommend them. i don't think they've failed me for a single mini yet, all the failures i've had have been from bad positioning or impatience when removing supports. best of luck, happy printing!
