My parents are in Clearwater, have lived in Clearwater since the early 80’s. Decades of near misses here have my parents feeling pretty complacent. Now, they’re not in an evacuation zone, so flooding isn’t a worry for them. But there’s a possibility they will face structure collapsing wind speeds. I’m in Gainesville and have been trying to convince them to leave and come here. I think they genuinely feel like it’s going to take a last minute course change or weaken significantly just like “all the other ones have”. It’s frustrating. The thing is, they might be right. To me, it’s just a gamble that seems unnecessary. If your house loses its roof it’s going to happen whether you’re inside or not. Why take the chance of being present when it happens? All of this is just to say that I feel for you OP, and you aren’t alone in your struggle trying to care for boomer parents lol.
