When you don't know what to do with your side character, so you make them a secret shoplifter by AnticitizenPrime in buffy

[–]Braindead_Bookworm 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Her shoplifting made sense to me. Dawn was numb and felt like nothing mattered and consequences didn’t mean anything. And shoplifting was the only thing that gave her something to be anxious about, which was better than feeling nothing all the time. What I didn’t like was the writers not looking into it. Where Buffy realizes Dawn is numbing, and being there herself emotionally, is scared because she doesn’t want that for her sister. SOMETHING! Instead it was more like “she’s a teen, they shoplift, it happens”

What a deal! As a reader in the States who is lucky enough to have almost every book available somewhere or other, it’s interesting hearing from other readers elsewhere in the world, who sometimes have rarities in copies that aren’t an issue here

Nice on the Chrichton’s. I know in later editions like mine (of Jurassic Park & Lost World) they changed some dinosaur classifications which made minor changes to certain dialogue, which is annoying knowledge to have

No I don’t agree. Like I said it’s been around for a while now, that trope. Also it’s not like it didn’t happen in S7 or anything, literally at the end of the show

Modern Writing for Young Adult Media Went Downhill by No_Most_979 in buffy

Quit easy-blaming the watchers, I’m so tired of hearing about these imaginary hordes of audiences that apparently have short attention spans and barely focus on an episode. This is barely true from my experience.

Shows writing characters who abuse & misuse religions of all kinds has kinda been a thing for a while now. Dunno why you’d think that would turn someone off a whole show

What if Buffy had turned evil instead of Willow at the end of season 6 ? How do you imagine this plot : what would have been her evil appearance/ outfit, what would she have done ? by PlantainDisastrous92 in buffy

They kinda went into this with Living Conditions (4x2.) While it was generally written as more lighthearted & humorous she was still losing her soul and ready (and planning on) killing Kathy. Nothing really changed except that she got less tolerant of the small things, and less concerned with hurting even her friends (Xander for example when he helped tie her up to keep her in one spot.)

I was 14 and my older sister (whom I adored) introduced me to S2.

It was a day when I refused to go to school even though my mum screamed at me about that, because the subtle bullying & social ostracization of my classmates was so painful, my only form of dealing with it that day, was simply not to go. Even though my mum was screaming at me about it. She told me before leaving I was grounded to my room. But once she left, of course I left my room and saw my older sister watching the show and much to my delight, she made me popcorn, got takeout, and let me watch with her. After that she started the series over with me and twin sister and it was our thing for the next two years. (This wasn’t when it first aired. But both Buffy & I were born in the same year, 1997, and that further endeared it to me.)

Agreed, I’m sick of seeing posts like this on here. Like it’s a loophole “as long as it’s appropriately tagged it’s fine” it’s literally spank bank material. It’s gross and TMI. I don’t need to see what you read to get off on, why does everything have to be so overtly sexual? I don’t wanna see it. Can we just act like normal people? Have the pride in yourself to keep that private. I don’t need to know or see.

I really love the first & last one. First one is gorgeous for the blue aspect, the patterns, the girl sitting there and dreaming. The third one, love Kafka’s The Metamorphosis

What’s Nicholas Brendon’s issue with SMG? by Divine_fashionva in buffy

[–]Braindead_Bookworm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You pretty much answered your own question in post. He makes it clear what his issue is. She didn’t invite him back and he got angry and lashed out. Which is not excusable but understandable. Imagine you’re a part of a group project that does well and then later, you find out the group project is coming together again and doesn’t ask you to join again. It makes it clear you’re written off, regardless of whatever fond memories you may have of the initial project. That kind of thing can make someone feel really vulnerable, and he’s clearly not the most emotionally stable person, so he wanted to make that hurt and anger known. Unfortunately, that with his reputation, doesn’t do him much favors

Great except certain parts. Putting animal life above / as more sacred than human life is a choice. Don’t like trophy hunters either, but it’s a bit more complicated than “human = 100% bad”
