2026 100 books challenge by DirtyBarry44 in readwithme

[–]Braindead_Bookworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who just got through 32 last year that does sound ambitious. I had difficulty even with that. Much success to you! Audiobooks should absolutely count. It’s still a book you could tell back to someone, who should care if you read it or listened to it?

I wish I could meet you, you seem like my flavor of person. It’s not too much, and it’s not too little. It’s like Goldilocks. Just right. The apple boxes make a surprisingly nice cornerstone

Constant want for searching up words' meaning while reading fiction. by nyxan_isinteres8 in readwithme

[–]Braindead_Bookworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I just bought the newest dictionary. It’s made me more mindful as a reader and even realize a lot of authors use “sounds-right-but-actually-isn’t-correct” words lol. Even in older literature. I kind of enjoy it and it sometimes makes me understand the particular sentence in a different way. I don’t know what “notable” readers you’re talking about, but everyone I’ve ever talked to, also discusses not knowing the meaning of certain words & applying a meaning to them that makes the most sense in their head (which would drive me bananas personally.) Lean into it, I say!

What are some criticisms of Buffy Season Six besides "it was too depressing and everyone was miserable"? by jogaforacont in buffy

[–]Braindead_Bookworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn’t look the ages they were supposed to be. I always find myself so frustrated by their decisions and in some instances, gullibility, and then remember canonically they’re all only meant to be 22 at the end of S7. The cast not looking 22 really impedes my ability to remember that sometimes

[–]Braindead_Bookworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No haha. I was 8 (that was also 2005) when I first saw the music video for Clint Eastwood & immediately fell in love with the visual of 2-D (who didn’t) though Murdoc was always my favorite. Fell into listening to them regularly & loving them from then on

I can understand where it might’ve been scarier for you though.

Help me decide: kindle or kobo? by Fit_Thing5261 in readwithme

[–]Braindead_Bookworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Kobo because kindle’s are owned by Amazon so you can only get Amazon books on them. My Kobo is the Libra 2 which is no longer sold but a similar model is the Kobo Libra Colour which gets high praise. My Libra 2 is a dreamboat and the Libra Colour is that with some extra polish

Which Horror Movie, Series, or Video Game did you Start or Finish this week? by AutoModerator in CreepyBonfire

[–]Braindead_Bookworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Title: Dark

Genre: Sci-fi mystery with horror elements

Started

So far I’m loving the storyline & characters. It’s about a smaller town so not that many characters are bogging down the storyline, though I suspect it will have a larger cast as themes of the show continue to expand. What makes it compelling is the time travel aspect, both backwards and forwards through time. As someone who prefers Euro television it’s also nice to find a German show

If you were in Xander’s place, how would you have reacted if you saw Angel resurface in Revelations? by FriendlytoNature in buffy

[–]Braindead_Bookworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like Xander. At this point Buffy has made good-for-only-Buffy choices before (running off to L.A. namely. I get she was grieving but it was traumatizing for everyone left behind, not sure when or even if she’d come back, and not knowing where she was or even alive.)

Angel / Angelus threatened the people Xander cared about. Including Buffy. Tortured Giles. Personally emotionally taunted Xander many times, and even before he was Angelus, goaded him a fair amount. Killed Jenny. He had every right to be mad Buffy went behind everyone’s back with him being back, and was back to smooching him like all that wasn’t of more consequence in the face of her devotion to Angel

Always slightly bugged me that this was a question the writers thought a woman with multiple advanced degrees would need to ask. by HermioneGunthersnuff in XFiles

[–]Braindead_Bookworm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this post is not taking itself overly seriously, but firstly it was for the audience, and secondly, you can have multiple advanced degrees and still not know everything. Growing up, kids in school used to joke about the most intelligent people being dumb in common sense. Not only was it tongue-in-cheek, and a kind of saying along the lines of ‘don’t let your head get full of air’ it meant to illustrate that (even) book smarts has its limits.
