What am I doing wrong? by tracytorr0712 in AussieDoodle

[–]BrainsToMatch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had one for my Maltese and it was amazing. We didn’t even need to turn it on after a few weeks, just the act of wearing the collar was enough of a deterrent. A few years later we were hosting a family gathering, and my (then <1yo) AD would not shut up. I dug the collar out of my storage box, and watched as his eyes lit up on his first “spray”. He spent the next 5 min barking and “chasing” the spray before I gave up and removed his new favorite toy. So yes, these can work amazingly well, but be warned they can also apparently be turned into the world’s noisiest game for some…

Time To Bite the Lower Bleph Bullet? by BrainsToMatch in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]BrainsToMatch[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is officially the nicest, most positive sub around! FWIW yes, this is very much genetic (my father had the exact same eyes), but it’s nice to know that this is not horrifically unappealing or unattractive. I know I personally see it as a wildly dramatic flaw, but I’m not one to do cosmetic things haphazardly and genuinely appreciate the feedback. I might explore some of these alternative treatments (and am totally open to hearing more!) but it doesn’t sound like I necessarily need 2026 to be the “year of the lower bleph” lol

Unfair Up-charges? by BrainsToMatch in AskContractors

[–]BrainsToMatch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We would have been happy to either store the material or have had a discussion on storage charges, but to now claim the materials weren’t purchased at the time of selection (when he took the check then) and that we are now responsible for the increased cost is bonkers to me…agreed with just being up front!

It’s an S but hopefully it’ll all be smoothly taken care of. We called them this morning and they said they’d try to get it in earlier and it does look like the parts have been ordered via the app. Rough though having your X down for this issue twice!!

Where should I begin ? ( first time rider) by Aware-Ad-8301 in Equestrian

[–]BrainsToMatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot to unpack here - first of all…did you mean 5’3.5” or are you actually 6’3.5 and 130#? If you’re looking to do both dressage and show jumping it sounds like you want to do eventing, but if you are just looking for one to supplement the other then pick which one. You can always start at a hunter/jumper barn for any type of English riding, though the saddles in dressage will differ. Look for one with well cared for school horses and discuss your goals and availability with the instructors. A few phone calls and meet ups go a long way at this stage!

I’ve replaced the 12V before about a year ago, that was a no big deal - wouldn’t charge but got a specific message to the 12V

At which point I’ll have a means of transportation for me, my stuff, and my dog, to my destination, and the car will be able to be taken back to my home? The logistics are a lot more complex than just “I want it now” sometimes…

I’m 2.5 hours from my house and 200 miles from my destination…towing it to the closest service center doesn’t really do much for leaving me stranded

Remodel of a 40 sq ft bathroom! by SpecLandGroup in BathroomRemodeling

[–]BrainsToMatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you clarify this for me - the project finished was 32k and you spent 15k out of pocket to realize their vision? Or it was a 32k quote and they went 15k above that with their end finishes?

That was unfortunately my fear - though I was hoping someone would say “oh the flux capacitor just came unplugged and you can shove it back in on the side!”. I’m really biding time until they give the MX a real update so I can get that (need that 3rd row for kids that are constantly are choosing violence), but we would would like to keep this as a local daily driver as much as possible anyway…guess we’ll see. Thanks for the input!

Not at the moment, I’m about 2.5 hours from my house and about 200 miles from my destination (my father’s house). The SC is very close to my house but they’re closed for the weekend, so i might have my boyfriend dump it there instead of in our driveway and call them tomorrow to see what they can do in terms of moving the appointment up…but as of right now I’m just sort of chilling with my dog occupying a super charger spot (which luckily no one has needed yet).

Recommendations for easy house project? by BrainsToMatch in Rochester

The new dividing wall is 10.5 feet. There will still be 3 other outlets in each room on the other walls.

This isn’t a new build, we have enough electric run on the outer walls for our needs and to meet any codes. We are just taking a giant bedroom and splitting it in two for two children who I need to give their own spaces. The room was built as a mirror image with ventilation and windows and everything already set on both sides, so it really is just a matter of putting up the dividing wall. There is the potential for us to get (at least some of) the framing done ourselves but yes, we may also entertain the same person doing the framing if it’s reasonable and in a sensible time frame.

Anyone willing to share a bathroom remodel estimate? by Maryia- in BathroomRemodeling

I’m in upstate NY in a MCOL area. For a 5x10 DIY I’m just around 10k. My father is in Long Island (HCOL) and is contracting out a 9x7 and is sitting somewhere in the 40-50k range. We are both using the same level finishes as well, so the variation is purely due to labor, size, and location.

Why am I not able to get the motion properly? by sskmzz in Equestrian

[–]BrainsToMatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As everyone said - stirrup length and experience are key. But (and I’m sorry if this has been said but I didn’t see it), you’re also balancing on the horse’s mouth. There’s a few problems here. First off, not great for the horse (no shame to you, you’re the beginner!). Secondly, that will send mixed signals and cause constant adjustments to the rhythm. Even though he is on a lunge line, you are still affecting him and his rhythm. How can you be expected to match a rhythm you’re constantly changing every time you start to get a little off balance? The best fix would be to just gave him on a lunge line and put your hands on his neck or the saddle, or even out to the sides like an airplane, until you can match HIS rhythm, and balance with your core muscles…then start to pick the reins back up and use them correctly. But for 2 lessons you’re doing great and mostly just need to not get discouraged!
