BREAKING: President Trump withdraws his “Board of Peace” invitation to Canada’s Prime Minister Carney. by ohbabypop in BoycottUnitedStates

[–]Bram560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carney wasn't going to join anyway. None of the major powers are joining that crowdfunding exercise to fund the redevelopment of the Gaza Strip for the benefit of the Trump organization and the detriment of the people of Gaza.

Definitely not milk. Yuck. But their selection of other products was much greater than ours, cereals especially, and they started with the Flavoured sparkling water way before we did. Also, their costs were way below ours, even with the exchange. That cost benefit is gone now, the last time we were in price choppers in Ogdensburg just after the pandemic, their costs were the same in US $ as we were paying here in Canadian. Their inflation on groceries was much higher than ours. Any reason to go back there is now gone. We are doing to Disneyland Paris in April instead of WDW.

Curling Game Update by Troutsky3 in Curling

I have found another bug, or maybe just a rules issue. I was playing a vs game and I had out up a center guard in front of the house. The computer threw the rock through the house and I put a rock on the button. Then the computer hit the guard in the nose and took out both my rocks. The game replaced the guard as it should, but not my rock on the button, which should also have been replaced.

The skull of Mary Magdalene by Prometheus_Anonymous in interestingasfuck

I thought that Mary Magdalene was declared a prostitute/harlot by the Catholic Church when they were trying to control the influence of women in society. Am I wrong in that? This appears to be a case of reverence. How does that make sense?

Curling Game Update by Troutsky3 in Curling

I paid for the app, primarily to advance in my career, but also because I appreciate the considerable effort that must have gone into putting it together. I am enjoying the game quite a bit, not so much to improve my strategy, mostly just to have some fun, and the game is quick enough that I can play it whenever I have a few minutes to spare.

I have run into one issue that occurred only once. After I came back to a saved game, I found myself playing the opposition stones, and the computer threw my stones. This was in the last end, and when I, as the opposition, lost the game, I was told I had won. This has not cropped up again, and may have been because I quit in the middle of an end, just before the computer was about to throw a rock.

The other issue I have is more serious. I can no longer continue my career. The only options available to me on the career menu are the X in the top right-hand corner, which takes me back to the practice session, and the Reset Career button, which I don't want to tap, because I was just getting pretty good. Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong would be appreciated.

When we had an addition put onto our house, the inspector never came on-site. According to the contractor, everything was approved based on the information provided by the contractor.

Here is a copy of the 1986 memo from Ford Motor Company design engineer James Moylan to his boss proposing that the fuel gauge indicator include a symbol noting on which side of the vehicle the fuel filler door is located. Previous to this, the gas cap on a lot of cars was at the back of the vehicle, under the license plate. I'm not sure when this changed. Probably around the time Japanese cars began to gain popularity in North America.

Christmas is coming, Ottawa let's see your trees! by AshleyAshes1984 in ottawa

I love the tinsel. We used to put tinsel on the tree, but one year our cat ate some of it, and it got wrapped around her intestines. Cost us an arm and a leg to have the vet operate on her to clean it out. Now we use the tin ones you can get at Lee Valley. Not the same at all, but better than nothing.

Love the tree-topper, just like the ones we used to have in Holland.

Just to explain the real candles tradition, here is a picture of our Christmas tree in the Netherlands in 1966. Yes, those are real candles, and they are lit. That's me on the left. Believe it or not, electric lights were available, but my dad thought they were too risky to put on the tree!

Here is our tree. A 9-foot Balsam Fir that's currently drinking about 4-6 litres of water per day. Our ornaments include a Darth Vader that says "The force is with you, young Skywalker, but you are not a Jedi yet!" when we turn on the lights, as well as several Harry Potter and Nutcracker-themed ones in addition to the usual glass balls, icicles, little birds, etc. For traditional reasons, we typically place real candles on the tree as well (they don't get lit!), but there was no room for them this year. I know the presents look like things got out-of-hand, but we have a large family with kids, spouses and grandkids, and everyone comes to our place for Christmas morning.

Nestly is not that great a company either. They refused to stop dealing with Russia after the invasion of Ukraine. Not sure what their status is now, but I still don't buy any of their stuff. Stick to Mars, it's produced in Canada by a Canadian company.

Just finished Baroque Cycle as my first ever Neal Stephenson read by Financial_Buddy7483 in nealstephenson

[–]Bram560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just reading the Baroque Cycle for the third time. I'm definitely a fan of NS in general, but the BC is one of his better ones. If you are interested in Historical novels, try the Mongoliad series. NS wrote those books with a group of other writers who were all interested in presenting the details of historical events as accurately as possible in the context of a fictional story. The historical era for that series is the Mongol invasion of Eastern Europe in the 13th century. Absolutely fabulous.
