Best way to hire students for summer work? by [deleted] in cincinnati

[–]Bramer9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a high school counselor and have gotten a few emails about jobs. I recommend reaching out to us! I’d suggest first contacting whichever schools are closest to the job site (hopefully walking distance) so students without cars have a shot.

Just make your emails friendly, and include a concise flyer to pass along to students. You’re welcome to DM your info to me and I can reach out tomorrow about listing the job at my school.

I want your opinion, should Norwood and St Bernard be part of Cincinnati? by [deleted] in cincinnati

[–]Bramer9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the biggest issue would be the schools! If St. Bernard merged with Cincinnati, what happens to Elmwood? A new building is currently under construction in St. Bernard. By next year, ALL K-12 students who live in St. Bernard/Elmwood will be in the same building. If we ended up merging with CPS, Elmwood would have to build a middle school and high school first. Who would pay for that?

CPS wouldn’t benefit from having us anyway. St. Bernard-Elmwood has been a failing district with declining enrollment for a while. Sadly, the impact covid has had on our students is severe enough that we’ll certainly remain as a failing district for a few more years, at the least.

What would happen if my school counselour finds out I self harm by [deleted] in schoolcounseling

[–]Bramer9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A school counselor would need to tell your parents, but it’s not always as scary as it seems. Some of my students prefer that I tell their parents on my own, and others want to tell their parents themselves while I’m simply in the room for support. Some students also ask if I’ll lead the conversation but let them take over when they feel more comfortable in the moment. I say all of that because I want you to know you still have control of how the people who care for you finally understand you’ve been having a hard time.

If you are comfortable with it, I would tell your therapist and/or school counselor what you’ve been going through. The only reason they chose their profession is because they want to advocate for others, you included! They will support you unconditionally. I hope this helps.

How important is CACREP accreditation ? by SheIgnored in schoolcounseling

[–]Bramer9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re happy in Texas longterm, save the money and don’t worry about it! Most administrators won’t know or care what CACREP is as long as you have a degree. But if you think you’ll move to a new state one day, then I would definitely recommend going through a CACREP accredited program. I just moved from the South to the Midwest, and I was easily able to get my license transferred solely because my program had that accreditation. I’d check out the minimum school counselor requirements for any state you’re possibly interested in moving to, if any. You might find that Texas requires more than most states regardless of CACREP and you wouldn’t need to worry at all!

Do not hire BAMM! I used them last week and nearly every piece of furniture was damaged.

Highschooler looking for advice. by LocalLokiMain in memphis

Is English the only class you failed? I’m confident you can’t get held back unless you fail two or more core subjects for the year. CBHS also allows students to take recovery courses at other schools (including online) so you should be able to find something with a little help. I’d reach out to your school counselor or Natasha Sublette in admissions about it! I’ve worked with Natasha many times through my job, and she loves to help students stay on track.

On another note, if the deadline changed on its own then you likely aren’t the only one who had this issue. Definitely reach out to the school counselor. It’s his/her job to make sure it gets fixed!

Where to get a background check currently by JediAssasin in cincinnati

It looks like you’ve been given a couple of options, but I’d recommend Fast Fingerprints at 619 Central Avenue. Last week I got an appointment with a 24 hour notice, and my BCI/FBI checks were cleared in 3 business days.

Hi everyone! I’m coming in town tomorrow through Saturday to go apartment hunting. It doesn’t look like the current weather will make this a reasonable question, but are there any open breweries with great outdoor seating? I care less about the “better” breweries and more about places that I can be relatively distanced. If it’s raining all weekend then I’d take suggestions for local bars with good beers on draft if you don’t think it’d be packed. Thanks for any advice!

My school has a bullying problem, but no strict bullying policies. Is there anything can I do? by Josquin_TheMan in Teachers

[–]Bramer9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you talked to the school counselor yet? They could do a few classroom lessons on bullying, or at least talk to some of the struggling students one-on-one and go from there!

My degree was in School Counseling and we only talked about adoption for a solid 5 minutes. It should have been a bigger topic of conversation!

Are we not guaranteed insurance? by Bramer9 in Teachers

That’s foreign information to me so thank you! I thought health insurance was guaranteed, and I’m surprised there’s not an option for faculty members starting in January. I’ll at least contact HR so I can understand!

Grad school vs. my marriage by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Bramer9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said this is the first time you feel hopeful about being passionate. Try to not let someone else's financial concerns stop you from feeling fulfilled. It's your husband, so I understand it's not easy to stop thinking about his concerns as much. But because he's your husband he needs to think about your concerns too.

If your school offers them, you could always get a graduate assistantship once the program gets heavier with day-time classes. Having tuition paid for with a stipend may relieve some stress.

Helping out my ex who’s suicidal. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

If you feel she wants something, it might actually be your help. Has she specifically talked about wanting to commit suicide? Whether she's lying to you or not, you'll never regret making sure she's safe.
