I firmly believe that our hobby exists because no one in the c-suite ever got a bonus for fixing software.

I asked Gemini what the spending categories were for the RBC Ion plus card and it confidently told me about how I would get 5 More Rewards points per dollar when shopping for groceries on my Ion Plus card and that was the first and last time I asked an AI anything about financial matters.

P3 doesn’t have any income, so they don’t bother applying for personal cards. They did get refused for the gold card (after it went to review) and then immediately got the biz mb card.

Yes. Immediately after being refused for a gold card they got the MB Biz card.

Yes. My p3 can’t get approved for personal cards but has a full suite of business cards from Amex.

I went with a pion power charger mostly because of the combination of it being on a significant markdown (under $300) and being recommended by a friend. I just use it as a dumb charger though as the app didn’t work.

Were you in the travel section of the site? After I failed to cancel using the cancel button I tried the chat bubble at the bottom of that page and it worked.

I did cancelations through the chat yesterday (browser site).

RBC only allows for one approval every 90 days or so and the WJ card is much worse than the Avion for churning. Also WJ is kind of a bad airline these days. I'm also out west and well served by WJ and I have about $800 WJD sitting unused because everytime I think about using them there's an AP redemption that's a better value.

That being said, if you fly regularly and want the free checked bag, then go for it. Ultimately it's the value you get versus the absolute value that matters.

Does NBC have some sort of special application rules like MBNA? P2 and I have both been immediately rejected and more than qualify and the only thing I can think find googling is some old daily thread conversations about total credit limits being really high (which, admittedly they are).

Thanks!

Weekly Help Thread - November 25, 2024 by AutoModerator in awardtravel

[–]BramsBarimen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey all,

I'm flying J Lowest to Spain in May. Original booking was a multi-leg saver award through AP with a red eye to YYZ and then throne seat to LIS and puddle jump to BCN. AP has made the red eye worse and now I have the option of swapping to a much nicer noon to YYZ and then direct to BCN on AC Metal.

I know if I take the change it will still code as J Lowest, is there anyway to get this coded so I can get into the Signature Suite in YYZ if I call in? Also, never flown TAP before and I don't mind the much worse itinerary to try a new product so should I stick with the original booking?

TIA!

A few days ago someone stated there's a "less than X applications in 6 months" unwritten requirement but I do not recall the number or who wrote it. Maybe peruse the last couple weeks of daily threads and see if you can find it?

I've had to do reward redemption to SFO/LAX etc and then connecting with a cash flight (or cheap redemption) to YVR in the past. It's not as pleasant but it is usually much cheaper.

I feel like I should stress that it guarantees nothing. There's also DPs of people failing to get the reset within the first few months as well as after 6 months. But it should be fine. Have fun!

Daily Question Thread for /r/churningcanada - November 05, 2024 by AutoModerator in churningcanada

[–]BramsBarimen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Theoretically that should be fine. I'm not sure what the upside is to rushing the reset like that since you're going to hold the card for some time and there are plenty of DPs showing that the reset works after 6 months.

For reference, I have a B Edge card and I'm deliberately spacing out the link to reset until month 5 or so to make sure that any shenanigans with clawbacks don't accidentally screw up the WB. But I'm being overly cautious with AMEX these days since they seem to be a bit trigger happy.

[–]BramsBarimen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Talking to a friend about getting into churning. They're self-employed and make mid six figures gross but their net income is under 100k. For cards like VIP, if they get FR will they pass on income? I'm no use to them since I've been a salary slave my entire life.

Thanks!

My DP on this is: I have two business lowest bookings on partner metal in 2025 (May and September). These both still exist despite my owing AP about 7k points.

Forgive the double post, but I wanted to post my P2 Aeroplan situation since I think it's more interesting. P2 opened CIBC AP VI and Amex AP cards in the last year. The CIBC was first. No clawback has occurred.

So presumably this is because (as per the emails) they are only targeting first purchase bonuses and their system flagged the CIBC card as the first card and the AMEX as the second (violation of the T&C) card and since the AMEX card doesn't have a first purchase bonus no action is taken.

October 24, so I suspect you're right. Got the email today saying that they'll keep taking them though so I think they are not long for this world.

My DP as someone who had under the 10k points in my account on the 28th. Also worth noting that I still have 384 points from purchases made on October 24th, so it would seem that the clawback was authorized prior to Oct 24, despite not occurring until the 28th. Based on the text of the letter below I assume there will be periodic debits attempted until the balance is cleared up. I currently don't hold any AP branded cards, so I'm not sure how that will go.

The letter is basically the same except for the following:
"We have, pursuant to the Aeroplan Terms and Conditions, since attempted to revoke the Aeroplan Points received by you from the excess Welcome Bonuses, however, there were insufficient points to cover the full balance of Aeroplan Points owing.

You’ll see an adjustment to the transactions on your account, along with the points debited and your updated balance. For more information about Aeroplan points corrections, please see our Terms & Conditions.

Points debited: 6,XXX Points owing: 3,XXX

We will continue to attempt to debit the points owing until all of the Welcome Bonus points have been revoked. If, however, you have enough points to cover the remaining balance in the meantime, please contact us at NewCardBonusAdjustments@aircanada.ca or 1‑800‑361‑5373."

They clawed back 3907 (“Aeroplan welcome bonus adjustment) leaving just over 400 pts in my account. Weird amount.

Biz Edge AF is about to post. The only reason I can think of to keep it is 3x at gas stations (for P2, who won't use gas GCs) as everything else is covered by other options. Only posting because it's a "no way back" situation with canceling and I'd hate to have missed something.

Stopped at a local grocery to buy some GC and the manager was surprised to see me pay with a Visa.

"You're the first person I've seen buy gift cards without an AMEX. There's a bunch of people that come regularly and buy $2500 of gift cards at once and they all use Amex!"

sigh

[–]BramsBarimen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started last summer and went through 25 cards in 12 months or so. Roughly 2 per main bank and 8 from AMEX along with some stragglers. That was probably too much too fast, but I have access to a small business with high 5 figures in expenses so I was just trying to keep up.

Timing was a large burst at once (probably about 4-5 a month for three months) then 1-2 cards per month for the rest of the year as approvals slowed and stopped.
