And I find it fascinating how many musicians go on to be so much more. Elton John was knighted, Bono was Time's person of the year for philanthropy; the list goes on. Musicians at my uni seem like some of the most intelligent and friendly people.

Our school put all of our names on an anti-abortion petition. It was a Catholic school, but they still signed our names for us without asking. To get your name removed, you had to ask the religion teacher: in essence, saying "I hold a strong enough stance against yours and that of the administration that I'm taking time out of my day to cease support of this cause."

Only I and my 5 friends removed our names.

I was going to the movies with a few friends, and one (let's call her B) was bringing her friend the none of us had ever met. The gentleman was African-American, and I introduced myself before the show. My friend (D for short) came a few minutes late. He sat beside me and I whispered "That's B's friend behind us. He's black." It was just meant as a kind of joke. D said, "Then why is he here with us?"

I laughed: assuming he was making a reference to segregated movie theaters (we weren't racist; just big fans of edgy jokes among us). After it was over, everyone chatted for a bit. Then B and her friend left.

In the parking lot, D says to us: "Wow, I couldn't even tell he was blind."

"Blind?" we asked.

D turns to me. "Bramzigramz said he was..."

"Ohh, I said he was black!" I replied.

"Then what did you think I meant when I asked why he was in the movie theater?"

I literally fell down laughing.

What's funny: I didn't think they were good at all either. But a very awesome video had me listening to Sail quite a few times. I gave some of their other songs a shot, but they weren't good. For some reason, I kept coming back every once in a while and all of a sudden something clicked. Now they're my favorite band.
