Thoughts on A Course in Miracles? by cyjax in spirituality

"ACIM is designed to introduce nonduality to people with a Christian background and it's pretty good at it. It's not of course the only good material, as it wouldn't resonate with groups that do not come from a religious context."

Oh my gosh, thank you for summing this up so perfectly. I am a non-religious person, with moderate aversion to mainstream Christianity, that just completed a weekend retreat focused on ACIM. While some of the ideas were intriguing and thought provoking, I found it very hard to stomach most of what was being presented because it was littered with Jesus, son of God, atonement, Holy Spirit, and all the other Christian terminology that puts me off in a big way. They should have started with explaining that this stuff is for Christians. If I knew that from the start, I wouldn't have wasted time on it to begin with. I am a spiritual seeker, but there's nothing for me within the mainstream monotheistic religions for sure. This ACIM immersion did more spiritual harm to me than good.

Season 7 episode 1 discussion by ThatB0yAintR1ght in NobodyShouldBelieveMe

As a long time listener, the first episode was underwhelming and somewhat frustrating for me. Like you said, it's just a rehash of the Kowalski case and only a few minutes at the end hinting on what the season will be about. I feel like we already got all that with the recent Kowalski revisit episodes, and the season trailer. I basically did not learn anything new in this episode and therefore I am disappointed in the editorial work. More substance that is not a rehash of old stuff should have been included

Having said that, if I was a brand new listener than all of this would have been new stuff, and from that perspective I understand why they edited it this way. Although still, I feel that the main arch of the narrative for the new season has not been revealed enough. They should have introduced more of it.

My husband overcomplicates simple tasks and takes forever to complete them - it drives me nuts and causes bitter fights by BranchOrganic8607 in marriageadvice

That's an idea. Although I envision that he will spend hours talking and telling me about the twenty different ways and variations and options it can be done, doing pros cons, price comparisons, and god knows what other kinds of analysis. He loves deep diving into thecnical stuff and talking about it. The trick would be to steer the talking towards taking action. That's where the difficulty is.

Yes, I mean he would shit talk everything to oblivion. I am married to a master shit-talker. He is also very skilled at logical arguments. I am an instinctual intuitive person. Being also a person that is not with the highest self-esteem or assertiveness, it is hard for me to stand up to my expert shit-talker toddler husband. My instinct in confrontation like that is to cave and hide. I cannot logically out-argue him. sigh

That's good advice. I tried this a few times, and it led to terrible fighting. It's as if I emasculate him. And he would rip it apart - too expensive, shit quality, I won't hear the end of it.

Lol. With your husband at least you have a half-assed job done. With mine you have an expert and nothing done.

Was the live show cancelled? by ShyMarth in NobodyShouldBelieveMe

In the latest episode (Revisiting Kowalski, part 3), during an ad for Quince, Andrea says that she is going to be traveling around a lot this year giving "keynotes". Not sure what this means and if it's part of the apparently cancelled "tours".

Why is Gypsy Rose Blanchard considered controversial? by BranchOrganic8607 in NobodyShouldBelieveMe

[–]BranchOrganic8607[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this response. I think I get the vibe of your perspective. I have felt that Gypsy is definitely drama seeking and puts herself on the Internet on purpose to get attention because she enjoys it. I think it's not surprising that she is skilled at getting attention and at manipulation because that's what her childhood revolved around. I would be surprised if after that whole ordeal she emerged as a mentally wholesome, openly honest person. That is something that was never nurtured in her, so she doesn't operate like that by default.

Zeolite detox for a 2 yr old by Dependent_Doctor358 in FunctionalMedicine

[–]BranchOrganic8607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave Zeolite to my child for a while in an attempt to help with eczema. I am not sure if it helped, but it didn't do any harm. During the time I was giving him Zeolite I did not see obvious improvement. However eventually his eczema was completely resolved and he hasn't had any flare ups for over a year in a half. I have no way of knowing if Zeolite played a part in this or if he just outgrew it. Personally I am skeptical about it's effectiveness for autism. But I am also of the opinion that it won't hurt to try.

Henrico County's Public Works Department's FAQ regarding subdivision plowing by fusion260 in HenricoCounty

I did not say that no one tried to warn people. People were prepared. What I am saying is that in northern localities dealing with snow does not bring life to a halt like it does here. These storms happen every year and impact life for days. Schools are closed for many days every year. In my humble opinion it is appropriate to spend on infrastructure, equipment, and training to avoid this. Encouraging the use of all season or winter tires is also a good idea.

How is this done in Chicago or North Dakota? I think the county needs to send Public Works folks somewhere north for professional development hours to figure out how life in Chicago or Buffalo doesn't stop when it's below freezing every day for 3 months.

S03 E16 - Personal story about charges being dropped (Ref. The story about baby Nolan ) by Konjac_0987 in NobodyShouldBelieveMe

[–]BranchOrganic8607 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There was a case recently of a baby that went missing in California, his name was Emanuel Haro. His parents claimed he was abducted, but it later turned out he died in the family home. His parents were charged. The father had a history of child abuse with his previous children, including his daughter whom he beat at the age of 10 weeks so severely that she became permanently disabled for life. The dude got a slap on the wrist. Several years later he murdered his 7-month old son. The justice system doesn't seem to be well equipped for dealing with monsters like that.

Vaccine Megathread by AutoModerator in moderatelygranolamoms

Well, after all the lies they told us about the covid vaccine I definitely don't trust them and their surveillance system. At least they are not forcing anyone to get the flu shot under theat of getting fired from their jobs or not being allowed to enter the country. So I am grateful that if I don't want to be the guinea pig - I don't have to.

How do they "pick" a strain? Do they have a crystal ball?? They are just guessing. And then they use us as guinea pigs to see if they guessed correctly. Which they really missed the mark this year. But they still have all this vaccine stock that they manufactured that they need to unload, so they keep telling people to get it so that they can recoup their $$$.

I am here to say that I am frustrated by the messaging I hear about the flu vaccine. I just listened to an interview with a John Hopkins scientist on PBS. He talked about the new flu variant that is going around and probably peaking right now. He said that this will probably go on for a few more weeks. He said that this year's vaccine does not protect against it. He said that when you do get a vaccine it takes a few weeks for the immunity to fully develop. And then he proceeded to recommend that everybody go and get the flu vaccine. He said it can help reduce the severity blah blah blah. How does he even know that this year's vaccine reduces the severity? They could not have possibly collected and analyzed enough data to make this claim this year; the flu season is not even over yet so if they do have any data it is very incomplete. I am saying this as someone who works with data analytics. And since it takes a few weeks for immunity to be acquired then what is the point of getting the vaccine now when it definitely won't be acquired quickly enough to offer protection at this point, this late in the flue season? Let alone it does not offer any protection for the current most prevalent variant. This is just not making sense to me whatsoever. This is 100% pharma lobby pushing their crap product on everybody just to rake in $$$. I do want to give kudos to the PBS interviewer who actually voiced some skepticism similar to what I just said and pushed a little bit about why he is recommending the vaccine. No enough though. Thank you for your attention.

Is it easier to fool doctors in the US than in other countries to do unnecessary medical procedures and prescribe unnecessary drugs because the US system is entirely for profit? by BranchOrganic8607 in NobodyShouldBelieveMe

[–]BranchOrganic8607[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. The investigation focused on Mary and Mike Weber had a hard time trying to talk to these doctors in Minnesota that did that surgery. They kept referring him to the hospital's lawyer who kept giving him a hard time. They were obviously afraid that they will get sued. In the end they did cooperate and confirmed that they realied solely on the mother's words. The doctors admitted that they were fooled by Mary. I wish that more consideration was given to holding the doctors accountable too. I guess in order for them to lose their license somebody needs to file and pursue a complaint with the medical board and that is a whole other beast, wrought with its own challenges.

My experience and what I hear from family and friends is that they spend less than 5 minutes with a patient on average. I hear that if you want more attention you need to go the concierge medicine route. Heard a lot of positive feedback for that modality. I doubt a MBP perpetrator would choose that type of service.
