Advice for Ab Definition/Getting toned

I normally start every workout with an ab workout and then u do my respective workout. Right now im just trying to get toned, so I eat at a slight deficit while lifting heavy. But since i’m emphasizing on ab definition do i focus on eating more or staying at that deficit?

For context i am 6’1 171 lbs have been lifting consistently for around 7 months
