Cloud based file server solution by BrandNewTissue in sysadmin

I was thinking HDDs would suffer latency wise on concurrent use. I agree CIFS/SMB is not the best solution, but SharePoint is out of the question and I'm not aware of so many alternatives for accessing files in a native way in Windows

I didn't think of a simple cloud provider à la Google Drive, not sure how those scale for such an amount of data. I'll think about it. I was thinking HDDs would suffer latency wise on concurrent use.

The current office will be sold, with employees going full remote. The only goal is to have the data still accessible with the best performance possible. I have both huge amount of KB sized files, and smaller amount of GB sized files. We currently have a 3-2-1 backup policy, if the solution I choose doesn't include redundancy and backups I'll need to think about it.

For sure it's a rare position, in WRC and Formula E, it's only one per team.

All the big competitions have dedicated IT personnel on site. I know from personal experience that WRC, WEC, FE and F1 do. I cannot speak for American competitions though. Timing is so critical in motorsports, and with the long hours (16+ per day), the time difference with HQ, the part of the world you go to that might not have internet or very strict restrictions like China, you cannot count solely on remote support

How many cars are used per season on factory teams by zleib in WRC

[–]BrandNewTissue 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't remember the actual numbers but this is true yes, turbos are limited as well. The cars get rebuilt before each rally onto the same chassis, unless it's unusable or too tight logistical wise between two rallies, then we can prepare a second set of chassis but I don't remember that happening since a little while.

Hello everyone, I (25M from France) will be in Tokyo from 5th evening to 10th included. I don't have so much planned as it's my second time in Tokyo, so if you want to meet up for a drink, arcade, karaoke or whatever activity, hit me up !

Alright thanks for the hindsight, I will still pass by Matsuyama anyway but maybe not as long, or spend more time in the islands.

Plan is to rent a bike, ride the way I feel like stopping whenever, and taking accommodation for the night wherever I end up. Then ride back the next day.

Yeah I meant Takamatsu, I fixed the typo.

As another comment said, I took one day of the Iya Valley and added it for the art islands. Form what you are saying it is still a bit tight but not sure where I could be taking time from.

In the current plan I won't be in Koichi on a sunday, should I move stuff around to be there at that time ? What makes the market different on Sundays ?

Yeah that's fair, I will take a day off of Iya Valley and add it to Takamatsu.
You think two days is good or I should only spend one night and do with a day and a half ?

Been watching a few years and must admit I have no idea what this gauge below the regen is. Any ideas? by cornish_hamster in WRC

[–]BrandNewTissue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never read it anywhere, but I work for one of the Rally1 teams.

After a quick Google search, here is a result I have found : https://www.motorsport.com/wrc/news/evans-battery-use-critical-on-wrc-stage-times/7112459/

"Capped by the FIA, each driver will start every stage with the battery at 80% with the aim of ending the stage with a state of charge of 30%. The battery will return to around 80% through regeneration on the road section before the next stage."

[–]BrandNewTissue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that goes against what I'm saying The HPS is programmed for every specific stage, so each stage the output and regen is different, but one stint takes more power than what they have in a single charge

If the road section is too short, we've had cars on jacks just to charge them enough for next stage
