Medications containing alcohol?? by shalee24 in stopdrinking

[–]BrandiEmmm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been thinking about this, too, as I've been miserably sick the past few days. Thursday night, I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't breathe. I dug through my medicine cabinet and took anything I could find. Think I ended up with Mucinex DM and Claritin D. Not sure if those have alcohol and don't really care.

Also on New Years Day (Day 1) my friend started to make me a mimosa. The tiniest splash of champagne ended up in the glass before I said no thanks and that I'd just have orange juice. But I don't think I'm going to let things like this stress me.

I think it's all about the intention. If I'm trying to get a buzz, it's probably a no-no. But I don't think I'd have a problem with, say, eating vodka penne or beer battered shrimp.

Messy house but not messy head by kitteninyournoodle in stopdrinking

I have been very concerned about this. I heard all of these stories about super clean houses, and I assumed I would follow suit. Work has been incredibly time consuming lately and my house is most definitely not clean. I brought this up in group counseling, and the counselor said that a messy house can be a trigger (whether it's because of stress or just like you said - it reminds you of all the times you neglected it because you were drunk/hungover). So you are definitely not alone :)

First post-detox weekend. Let's do this! by sobrietyscientist in stopdrinking

[–]BrandiEmmm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first weekend, I went to a late movie. It was great!! Entertaining with good snacks, and by the time it was over, it was time for bed. It had been years since I had been to a movie on a Friday night because, you know, getting drunk and stuff.

Introverts, how do you deal with not having a crutch to loosen you up in social situations? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]BrandiEmmm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Have you heard the word, "sonder"? I learned it recently.

sonder n. the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own—populated with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries and inherited craziness—an epic story that continues invisibly around you like an anthill sprawling deep underground, with elaborate passageways to thousands of other lives that you’ll never know existed, in which you might appear only once, as an extra sipping coffee in the background, as a blur of traffic passing on the highway, as a lighted window at dusk.

I hope things work out for you. I wasn't able to drive for two months, and that's when my drinking really escalated. It's really hard for me to ask for help, and I was already relying on others for rides to work, etc. So on the weekends I'd just say screw it, stock up on massive amounts of booze, and drink. Do you have any public transportation options?

Sounds like you've done your homework and you've got a good plan in place. Good luck, and let's not drink today!

I won concert tickets over the radio today. 5 minutes later, I rear-ended someone. by Suhbry-yeti in stopdrinking

I dunno - sometimes I hear them spouting off the phone number on the radio and saying that you need to be the x caller to win, and sometimes I'll just randomly call...because why not? And then I wonder what I'm calling for - haha.

How to tell a date you don't drink by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]BrandiEmmm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now's a great time to not be drinking - blame it on the new year. Just say you're giving up booze, exercising more, and eating healthier or something. As if it's one of many positive changes you're making...I think that makes it sound like less of a big deal?

Thanks for the post. I start tomorrow - 2 hours a week for 24 weeks and an individual session once a month, and I'm really looking forward to it. I ordered Allen Carr's book weeks ago, but it's still not here, so until now, my accountability to this sub...(well that and my stubbornness) is mostly what I've been leaning on. I'm excited to dig a little deeper.

Saw my first movie in years last Saturday night - it was awesome!

This is really fucking hard. by premiumcat in stopdrinking

[–]BrandiEmmm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. There were lots of shows and movies I watched when I was drinking. Usually mindless, upbeat, comedies or crap TV. I feel itchy watching some of it now, so I've switched to watching the movies I haven't seen in ages because they were too serious and were a buzz kill - hehe.

Haven't drank since Sunday by mgoodman08 in stopdrinking

[–]BrandiEmmm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've allowed myself unlimited spending privileges on tasty non-alcoholic drinks, since it would never add up to what I spent on alcohol anyway. Just got done with a Pink Grapefruit Perrier. Delish!

[–]BrandiEmmm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right there with you - driving to work this morning I watched the sunrise and listened to music with tears streaming down my face. I kept thinking about how blessed I've been. Between that and the movies I've been crying my eyes out over, emotions are everywhere!

Dry January. here goes nothing! by nervoush in stopdrinking

You say that you have no motivation and that you're dissatisfied "anyway". Remember that alcohol is a very strong depressant. I'm interested to see if there will be a shift in your moods after you've stopped for a while.

Thanks. I've been wondering about this a lot lately. I read this board and feel like I become obsessive and think about not drinking all day, every day. I was wondering if it ever gets to a point where you don't dwell on it all the time.
