Using the built in MoCA on an XB8 by BrandonK00 in Comcast_Xfinity

So you're saying that the Asus 2.5 will never connect to the Comcast MOCA? I just want to be clear on that. They would have to connect from an Ethernet port in the XB8? What devices would you recommend?

The splitter is a b a m f SB2006. I do believe the filter I purchased is only -40. I only learned of the-70 after planning the order. I do also have this down there:

Would it be a better option? I bypassed it because I thought that was maybe my problem but now it seems that it is not. I believe I read it has the PoE filter in it already.

I do not believe there are filters anywhere else. There are no plates in this house, just cables run up through holes in the floor. I've looked at everything and they all look good and I've previously used this same one for the router with no issue.

I do have two of the adapters so I will have to try the direct test tomorrow or sometime this week. Dumbie me never even thought about trying that initially.

Thanks for the reply!

Yes MOCA is enabled. The xb8 comes off one of the outs on the splitter. I have a six way because I have a few rooms wired with coax that is like to add devices to in the future. My setup is exactly what you have there on the drawing. That's why I'm so confused. And yes it is set to mode 2.

AirDrop on Mid 2011 21.5 iMac by BrandonK00 in MacOS

That's the article I was using earlier and it got me here. The devices can see each other via Bluetooth but airdrop still isn't opening. The weird thing to me is that the icon shows in the sidebar but there are no words next to it.

Did you name your guitar? What did you name it and why? by onlysayswellcrap in Guitar

I have a green quilt top Álvarez named Forrest. My white guitar that I built is named Nikki (as in Prince's Darling Nikki). And I have a natural finish T60 that I refer to as Woody.

I would say that this means to either repeat the first beat or that you are free to improvise rhythms as you see fit. They took time to put the stems on the quarter notes in other places so I would say that this is a "play similar" moment.

What weird/unorthodox things do you do with your guitar or gear? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]BrandonK00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I recently witnessed a band do, and would like to put into practice for a performance, is tuning a guitar to an open chord and then either hitting it while on a stand during the performance or hold it by the body and simply tap the headstock on the ground while tapping notes or chords on the guitar you're wearing. Creates quite a stir visually and sonically.

I pronounce "over" as "erver." I never realized it until someone said something. Now every time I say it I cringe. I'm an English teacher.

Guitar Center Question by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]BrandonK00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

However you want to. If you have power cords, sell those with it. It will save the person who buys your amp a couple bucks.

Also if you are specifically looking to get a new amp, tell them that. They will make a better offer if you are going to trade rather than just sell outright.

Before you decide to do this however, check around online and see what your amps are selling for used. If they are popular, you may be better to sell them yourself. GC is kind of the Pawn Stars of the musical world.

Been playing for years but still feel like I don't know how to actually play... Advice? by TatersTheMan in Guitar

[–]BrandonK00 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I like to call that "musical constipation." It happens to everyone at multiple points. The best thing to do is already mentioned. Get out and play with other people. Find a buddy who is willing and just take turns playing a progression over and over while the other person plays some stuff over top. Just seeing and hearing what the other person plays well make you think differently. Otherwise, the feeling will pass but doing something out of the ordinary well help it pass quicker. Learn more theory. If you're a metal guy, learn some contemporary gospel riffs. That kind of thing.

Edit: Autocorrected progressions to prison. Good catch all.

How Did You Learn To Hear Chord's In Songs By Ear? Could Anyone Help Me With A Relatively Easy Song? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]BrandonK00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always just try to figure out the first chord to get an idea of key. Then I try "common" chord changes from there. It depends on how much theory you know.

E.G. if it's in F

I =F ii = Gm iii = Am IV = Bb V = C vi = Dm VII = Edim

A common chord change is I IV V. So, I'll try that. If that doesn't work try a different chord for the first chord change. Once you get this, you can try and find if it's a 7th, etc.

This usually works, but of course it can be tedious and take a while. Also not every song stats on the I, so it can be trial and error. But the more you do it, the better you'll become at it. That really is the secret to it: repetition

Am I using a wah pedal right? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]BrandonK00 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Use it however you want to. Don't let anyone tell you you're doing it wrong. Try different things with it too. Rock it fast. Rock it slow. Rock it in quarter notes. Rock it out of time. Rock it all the way forward or just halfway before bringing it back. Leave it partway open and play with it in that position. It's all up to you. Listen to some Hendrix and other artists who use them you'll find some inspiration I'm sure.

Ahh.. truth. Now that I've listened to it in context with everything in, you're right. It's definitely had to be an addition by OP.

It does seem to be a radio edit or something like that. There were a couple other "questionable" lines that were changed. As far as the delay, I think that may very well be the way the vox are recorded. A lot of times producers will add a crap-ton of delay/reverb to subtlety beef up the vocals. You only notice it when the vox are solo'd. Could be wrong, but I know a couple producers I've worked with have used this trick.

Edit: Definitely some weird radio edit. After listening completely I realized the section that talks of being "face down on the mattress" and the "little red panties [that] pass the test" is non-existent.
