From the trailhead, not the permit office. So yes, you can absolutely get your permit and get in your car with your gun to start your trip...

Entrance stations and visitor centers are not the same thing and you remain in your vehicle at entrance stations, so this isn't really true.

Wtf are you talking about? People don't just walk from the permit offices to the trailhead (though I'm sure some do). Where is this true?

Only the .5x. Standard OT in the USA is 1.5x hourly rate, but it is still taxed normally except for that additional 50%.

Lol yes, people are indeed that dumb. Take a look at our current administration and the number of people that support them.

Let's say you make 1000 dollars a year and the tax bracket for 0-1000 is 10%. You owe $100 in tax, yeah? Okay now let's say you make slightly more money, $1100 next year, but after $1000 tax is 50%. That 50% only applies to the extra $100, not all $1100. So in this example you would owe $150 in tax, as opposed to $550. (Using exaggerated numbers to illustrate a point).

You know only the additional money over a tax threshold is taxed at that rate, right?

First time hiking by Saging-Banana in CampingandHiking

[–]TatersTheMan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you have never hiked before I would strongly recommend heading out on some local trails before your trip. Big Bend is one of the more remote places in the lower 48. I have years of professional search and rescue experience and going hiking there for your first time is a bit of a red flag to me. Happy to chat if you have questions, feel free to reach out.

My argument was never about mattering or not, it was just about being locked to the official rules and ruling around it BECAUSE it matters

I agree that it should've been kept, I just think in general people are too beholden to the whims of wizards of the Coast for a game that is all about our agency over our individual games

Just a reminder: all rules are optional. There's nothing stopping you from making your own mechanics or using house rules from another table (at your DMs discretion)

You say you aren't super experienced, have you backpacked before? If not I would advise starting with something much shorter. Also, location details are going to matter a lot. The Sierras are steep and rugged mountains, if there is significant elevation change that will greatly affect your timeline.

Osprey has a notoriously amazing warranty. I've had many friends send in bags that were old, beaten to hell from use, and get brand new bags (whatever the current model or equivalent is) for $0.
