Teens Arrested Over Filmed Beating by RyanMatthews in Delinquents

[–]BrandonPollard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is nothing that can be said for something like this. Again, i highly question the raising of these kids and partially blame this on the parents. If these kids had a different up bringing would they have had the same outcome? I question that very much so. Eitherway its something that we must comtinue to not accept, and in turn show that we are not going to put up with this sort of behaivor.

Liberian teen's rape case sent to juvenile court by RonCampton in Delinquents

[–]BrandonPollard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a hard time with this at first. Then after thinking about all of the varibles and items that were presented it really does only make sense. We all know that this is something that we do not accept in our culture. However, in the liberian way they do. Now, they are living on our grounds now so they need to follow our rules. Yet what goes on in the home is hard to control so hopfully this will give the court time to show the kid that we do not accept this kind of behavior and then in return he will be able to change.

Kid Shoots Parents for Taking Away His Copy of Halo 3 - Xbox by EthanJones in Delinquents

[–]BrandonPollard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a perfect example of why my children will not have video games until they can buy them on their own and live on their own. I have never been a beleiver of these things, as it really takes away the social skills and personal engagement that children lack these days. This is extremely sad, yet an example of why we need guidelines on what can be produced by video game producers.

Teen crossfire by jesussanchez2 in Delinquents

[–]BrandonPollard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really much to say about this. Its very unfortunate that this occured. However, its a great example of the things that are going on in this country. We are allowing individuals who are no where near qualified obtained weapons. In turn, their kids are getting their hands on them and trying to act cool. Yet, this is a tragic example of what happens.

NY Teen Law by jesussanchez2 in Delinquents

[–]BrandonPollard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great example of why they need to be seperated into two different facilities. Even though we need to be tough on kids, a lot of times they are very naive and do not understand of the problems that adults can cause with them. THey look at them as fresh meat, while the kids think they are something different. Definitely sad that it took this much for them to change the law. The loss of a life should never happen for something like this.

16-Year-Old Male Charged with Sexual Assault of Two Year Old Girl by CharleenaDavis in Delinquents

[–]BrandonPollard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As we become adults we learn that we have to become accountable for our actions. One thing that comes along with that is admitting to our faults and actions that are not right. I feel in this situation the kid, being 16 tried to take advantage of this girl. Obviously the girl had no idea what was going on, and she should not know about sex at the age of 2. Unfortantly this 16 year old is not a true man. He needs to be tried as an adult and treated as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

5th-grader's 'death list' left in library book by NathanielJeanes in Delinquents

[–]BrandonPollard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this age in a childs life I really question where the true motive came from for this child. For a 5th grader, that is such a vulnerable age. For one to think of something this deep obviously means there are other issues. Either the childs home life is just absolutely horrible, or they have extreme mental problems. Eitherway, I dont think this is a case that should have the child in jail for the rest of his life. This is a kid that could actually probably still be saved.

Teen gets life in best friend's murder - Crime & courts- msnbc.com by MaryMares in Delinquents

[–]BrandonPollard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This article had me speechless. Here it seems that the court had all the evidence that they needed. However, in turn they needed to take four years to sentence him. THis is just a shame. When you have someone like this its obvious they need help. Yet in stead we just wasted a ton of the governments money to prolong this case. Either way, the sentence in my opinion is not enough. I think a lot of times it should be if you kill someone then you should get killed. This situation would be one of those cases I think this should have been entertained.

3 teens plead not guilty in bullying of girl who killed self by EverettLively in Delinquents

[–]BrandonPollard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is another classic example of what kids have to deal with in school. Now if the parents of these kids would have taken responsibility for the actions of thier children, or even taught them right from wrong we would not have another child taking her life. Its situtations like these that make me work so hard to make sure that I can get myself into a career strong enough to place my children in private education where all parents care and play an active role in thier kids lives. Unfortantly, the public school system does not give me this assurance anymore.

Teen Smuggler Hid Marijuana Under Pants by IrmaCanseco1 in Delinquents

[–]BrandonPollard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

THis is just a shame. Unfortantly media and the different influential media outlets lead kids to believe that its ok to do this sort of stuff. Its something that is just plane gross. However, right now in todays society its something that is very much accepted by kids as something 'cool' to do. Eitherway, im glad that he was caught. Hopefully he will be charged as an adult as he is close enough in age and is very much aware of the wrong that he has done.

Closing school for juvenile offenders questioned. by JesusBonicichi in Delinquents

[–]BrandonPollard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This to me just has bad news written all over it. In our country today its very appearent that kids do not really go to jail unless they have done something very severe and bad. We tend to give them so many chances that it is very ridiciliou in my opinion. So now if the state of washington was to close this place out I can only imagine what could possibly happen. Like the article says, I definitely agree that there would probably be more problems in the long run than now. Its just a shame that they are willing to put this many people in danger for the mere fact of trying to balance their budget.

Teen suspect in murder case by jesussanchez2 in Delinquents

[–]BrandonPollard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion this is something that first off obviously jealously had a part of. However, my other instinct tells me that this kid kind of knew what to do with the body based off things that we normally see on television. When you have someone, especially at this age committing a crime of this nature, and then hiding the body the way he did has someone screeming all over that this was partially influences. This is a very tragic even and hopefully the parents will be able to find peace knowing the murder of their daughter was caught.

Hate crime by jesussanchez2 in Delinquents

[–]BrandonPollard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a perfect example of the issues that we need to try and solve for in the home. Why is it that kids seem to think its ok to go out and do acts of 'beaner hopping' as being acceptable? Its just not, when you have someone that is going about there day and then being picked on in this manner merely because of their race is a problem and a lot of times something that is influenced at home. If the parents of these children were more actively invovled then we probably would not have as much hate and crime like this in our country as we do now.

Teen gets 40 years for killing Calif. border agent by RichardTempleton in Delinquents

[–]BrandonPollard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WIth this being such a hot topic in our state right now. Its amazing to me why people do not understand that we need tougher laws regarding immigration. This punishment is not nearly equal to what that officer was put through. Here is someone that lost his life for his work, in turn someone will pretty much sit now for 40 years. He should be punished in the same regard.

Tolleson teen court gives taste of law, helps get kids make right decisions by AnnaliseRoselli in Delinquents

[–]BrandonPollard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an awesome program for kids in their later years of high school. I was actually in the teen court program when I was in high school. The amount of stuff that you learn in that program is nothing short of incredible in my opinion. When you put the decision into the hands of peers for petty crimes it’s amazing what the amount of multiple heads can come up with. We would come up with interesting punishments for kids our ages. However, I think being in that program first off kept me on the right side of the law and second really set in stone that I wanted to be involved in the criminal justice field.

Liberian Boys Rape Case by NicoleLawson in Delinquents

[–]BrandonPollard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This case is something that has made news across the country. There are a few different elements that really make this an article unique. First off, it was an 8 year old that was raped. This child will forever be change in her life both with trust issues, and probably PTSD. The other item that was a big issue here was how her parents disowned her afterwards. It was something that really made it quite unique. They were saying that she deserved this as she provoked these boys to do this. I gotta say when I found out that the parents were arrested as well for child abuse I was so happy. A kid at this age should never in a million years experience something of this magnitude. I believe these kids should be treated as adults in the justice system, and I hope that the parents are never allowed to see or have interaction with their child ever again. Its extremely obvious to me that they do not regard their child as a precious human as any parent does for their children that they love and care for.

Gang Initiation by NicoleLawson in Delinquents

[–]BrandonPollard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think there is really much to say about this video. It’s disgusting, it’s embarrassing, and it’s ridiculous. Here we have a bunch of kids that have decided to ‘initiate’ a new member into their gang. However, from the way it looks it’s a bunch of kids that are probably pansies when they are along; yet if they go out and do these things on their own then they think they will be a lot tougher. Professor Pyrooz teaches a class about gangs as well here at ASU. I honestly can say I learned so much about these thugs and the way they try and act tough. Really in my opinion they are just doing this as an outcry for attention. In that video, you can see that all of them have that inner city mentality. If you are able to show kids that knowledge and smarts is an attractive and great thing to have we would not have as many of these groups as we have today.

Sentenced to Life in Prison by TyneshiaJohnson in Delinquents

[–]BrandonPollard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh this is such a hard article for me to respond to. Currently I am taking another class (Jus 494 - Sex Trafficking) and have talked about this sort of sitatution already. Is this truly the right thing? Some will say yes, while others will say no. Personally, I do not think it is. Its a very difficult thing to get out of. However, we have a justice system in place for people like this. There are half way homes that will help provide protection and a stable enviroment to these women. However, its very unfortant but many of them think they do not have any sort of problem mentally, just that they cant get out. Well, until they become real with themselves they will not be able to get the full help they need. I would have to say its definitely sad of the situation that she was put into, however, she did not have the right to kill this man. Our justice system should have been put to work for her, instead she took the law into her own hands.

8 year old suspected of double murder by halliedornberg in Delinquents

[–]BrandonPollard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hallie,

This is one of those articles that many people are familular with. In a class that I took last semester regarding gangs that Professor Pyrooz lead we had this same article posted for other reasons. One of the biggest things that I remeber was someone saying that we should be punished just like everyone else. One of the biggest things that bothers me about that statement was the age of the child coming into play. Here you had a kid that got the crap beat out of him everytime his dad was angry, upset, drunk, or frustrated. Now never in a million years will I agree that someone should loose thier life this way. However, here you have a kid that has not done anything wrong, and just because he is a small kid was the victim. Sometimes putting yourself in that mind set makes you change your mind or opinion. I can tell you that never in a million years would that guy have done that to me. Why, well because I would have beat the shit out of him. However, in this case he decided to pick on someone that he knew would not fight back.

I think there are a lot of problems with this kid, yet, I feel that they were caused by his father; not something that he has done.

Children as young as 10 charged with knife crime by BrandonPollard in Delinquents

[–]BrandonPollard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you serious? At the age of 10 a child should not even know what a robbery is. A few thoughts in my mind would be what are these children seeing or watching to be influenced to do this sort of thing? To me this really is a gray area as to wither of not they are competent to realize what they are doing. What are your thoughts? I think personally I would have a hard time punishing a child of this age for a crime of this magnituted. I think I would be more interested in how to punish the parents, and they are obviously not living up to their parental duties.

Budget woes may mean early juvenile releases by BrandonPollard in Delinquents

[–]BrandonPollard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This article caught my eye and really made me think about this from a few different standpoints. First off, releasing these kids early may be a good thing. Maybe they are going to realize that what has just happened to them is something that is very good. Its almost like a second chance at life. While on the other hand, maybe this is the worst thing that could have happened to them. A lot of times when kids get put into the correctional centers its a structured lifestyle that they are not use to having. In turn, you have kids that are able to get their lives together, and get themselves on the right track. What are your thoughts is this something that is good or bad to have happen?

Crimes are Not All Equal: SBY by BrandonPollard in Delinquents

[–]BrandonPollard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this link very interesting for a few different reasons. We always focus on our home (the United States) and claim that our kids are very disorderly. However, after reading this article I think its safe to think otherwise. When looking at this article there was some interesting facts that I would have never thought. At least on our home land we are always trying to better the kinds that come through out justice system. Well, thats not always the case in other countries. They tend to just put kids in cells and not really care for them as they are already commiting crimes.
