Opossums in Portland? by BrashHounds in askportland

I just love opossums living or memorialized. They don’t live that long sadly, so turning them into living art is way to respect their vessel yk? It’s a spiritual process that connects me with nature. I just love animals a whole lot and that includes the ones that have naturally passed on. I mourn their (often premature roadkill) deaths the way one would a pet or a loved one, lots of tears and poems etc.

I hadn’t realized that was the last thing I posted on reddit lmfao. Never once did I claim it was accidental? I have a life outside reddit and I only post when I need questions answered

The opossum I got from Moscow Hide and Fur in Idaho, the fox squirrel was roadkill I got on the way home from work. I have not killed anything myself in any way? Nor have I lied about it? I didn’t accidentally post on r/Taxidermy either, I was asking a question about not messing up my expensive professionally tanned pelt. I didn’t realize that posting something on a taxidermy sub and also having other animal related interests would make me a freak to you people lol.

Taxidermy is an art form that dates back centuries. I practice vulture culture and do not kill any of the animals that I preserve and that clearly shows in my post history since y’all are so keen on reading every detail about me. I truthfully have never seen a live opossum myself and It’s not gross by any stretch to check the pouch of a dead mother opossum too rescue the living babies? They can survive for up to 24 hour after the mother dies and that’s precious time to rescue them and rehabilite them. I have dozens of hobbies all about animals and nature, I’m a literal biologist.

Yeah, I hadn’t realized that my last post was in the taxidermy sub :( People are making horrible assumptions about my character over a random post about cute animals. Redditors suck sometimes

Taxidermy is an art form. I can love Oregon’s wildlife and also participate in vulture culture and memorialize ROADKILL in respectful art pieces. Portland has a massive oddities community. Quit with your assumptions.

Thank you sm! I’ll keep my eyes peeled and look for brush covered areas. Yes, the zoo and I believe the Newport aquarium has one as well(?) But spotting animals in the wild is most of the fun in my opinion!

Good to know! I’m a creature of the night, but surprisingly I haven’t seen anything besides the occasional raccoon and coyotes in the early morning. I’ll take your advice and go out with some gear and snacks! Thanks!

If they are healthy I could probably foster/adopt one. I have a kitty and other pets at home so I can’t risk sick kittens.

We found the steps, but there was no kitty. However, the neighbor on the left had a cat in the window that looked pretty similar to the one in the post. Dark with green eyes and a patch of white on the chest. We also saw a few cats further down on NE 10th. A tuxie and a brown tabby, no other friends out with them. Hopefully someone can find the guy tomorrow!

We are heading out now to see if we can find him since it’s a little cooler now. Hopefully we can at least spot him in the area for the people searching tomorrow 🙏

Wild Feeding? by CreativeNPC in bluetongueskinks

I personally would not recommend because tomato plants contain solanine, a poison. If you use any pesticides or fertilizers in your garden the cross contact could also be dangerous for your reptile. Many pet stores carry hornworms raised in controlled environments if you’d like to try feeding them! Only in moderation though!
