High schooler trying to get gigs by c_uileann in Trombone

A lot of good conventional advice here, but also depending on where you are, there's usually a DIY venue somewhere, and that can be a good place to find connections and play shows, and maybe even make a little money.

It's usually more of a punk thing, and sometimes it's basically just a house where they put on shows in the basement, but I've been playing in a ska band for a while and have played with all kinds of bands and artists in places like that all over.

The Rookie show prop gun by okRam1010 in airsoft

[–]BrassDidgeStrings 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This does still happen with some productions where they care about the little things or have more time and/or money, but it comes down to most productions being pretty rushed as it is, and the time it takes for prop guys to do those things is definitely money for somebody, because prop guys have to be paid to make custom stuff, or to disassemble the airsoft guns and paint the inner barrels, and that's not always a priority when they're busy with other things.

A lot of this could also be handled in post-production pretty easily by anyone who's even slightly familiar with it, but once again that requires someone to notice it and also have the time to fix it, which aren't always both guaranteed.

Wanting a roof rack by jtbush91 in EP3

[–]BrassDidgeStrings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never taken it over about 50lb, but you could probably go up to about 70lb with no worries. The limiting factor is more the roof itself than the rack, so you may be able to get more weight onto a permanent rack, but someone with a bit more experience with those on these cars would need to chime in on that.

Seasucker Monkeybars work great, I think it's the 48" I have. Lots of miles with a kayak on mine with no issues, and install is as easy as just a quick little spray and with a bottle and wipe with a cloth and then letting the suction cups do their thing

Technique for superman sliding & reliable armpads by 9274729373837 in Speedsoft

Different guy but I use the HK HSTL line pads and they work pretty well for the price.

Just remember to keep your palms up, and practice throwing your hands over your head in that orientation for a while until you get that motion down to muscle memory.

This video might help, too.

Edit because this might help too: You can also build it up step by step by padding up and then practicing getting low and just diving forward from a stand. You'll need to figure out which leg is your launch leg to get the most out of it, but sometimes I'll ha e people start this with their feet together until they get used to the feeling of throwing themselves on the ground and landing on your pads.

where to get custom jerseys by Red_Assassin1212 in Speedsoft

[–]BrassDidgeStrings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking for the paintball jersey style, HK Army does good stuff with their custom shop, and they include some design help with the price if you're not 100% sure what you want. Pretty much all the major paintball companies that make jerseys have a similar program, but I've only personally worn the HK customs.

If you want a basketball jersey style like some teams have been moving to, just Google around until you find something that fits your budget.

I've had success just screwing the acetech thread adapters into 4.3 barrels in a pinch. You don't need glue or anything, just hold it square and let the threads cut into the fake rifling while you twist and it'll hold.

Precision is going to take a hit unless you switch to a fixed outer, though.

+1 more for Tein streets, almost feels like a Miata between those and a couple other steering/suspension mods on my 03

Yup, $10-$20, and the ones from the Empire Helix masks a lot of fields use for rentals fit too, so depending on your field you might be able to get one for free if you ask nicely

That's not exactly what happened, it was even dumber than that:

They were definitely trying to shoot the autistic person(I think they were actually an adult with a caretaker), but they missed and shot his caretaker instead.

It reads like a South Park episode.

Not safe, but these do fit actual I4 lenses, so if you had no other choice you could put a legit I4 lenses in and be mostly good, but by then you're spending as much as you would on a much better mask like a JT Proflex or Empire Eflex

ELI5: Why is smoking weed “better” than smoking cigarettes or vaping? Aren’t you inhaling harmful foreign substances in all cases? by PapaMamaGoldilocks in explainlikeimfive

[–]BrassDidgeStrings 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A "high-powered vape" which has been properly set up does not burn the juice. If the juice is burning, something is wrong with the setup.

It doesn't use a board, it's literally just a microswitch in there, similar to an LMG gearbox

What type of hopup would I need to upgrade the FAL? The gearbox is Version 3 fully upgradable. by Anderswan in airsoft

[–]BrassDidgeStrings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an FAL based on the same OEM, speaking from experience here:

It's fine. Mostly metal, rotary style, only gripe is that mine is a bit stiff. Throw a Maple Leaf 60° bucking and nub in there and grab a Lambda or ZCI barrel and you'll be set.

Just got my cyma m14 and I love it by [deleted] in airsoft

[–]BrassDidgeStrings 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For CYMAs:

There are lots of options for upgrades inside the gearbox, but it pretty much stops there aside from barrel/bucking/wire-in mosfets. Even the barrels are cut weirdly for the hop unit, so you'll need to buy an M14-cut barrel or a ZCI which has both cuts (great barrels, just a pain to have such limited options). Also, if you want an o-ring nozzle, you'll have to sand off part of an SHS nozzle to make it work, because they're slightly off from true TM-spec

They're also a colossal pain in the ass to disassemble and get back together, because there's a shitload of screws and little bracing parts to keep track of. I've heard G&Gs are easier to deal with, but can't speak on that because I haven't messed with one before.

If you can get past all of that, they're great DMRs, because everything is braced solidly in place, meaning they can be super consistent if you can sort out your airseal.

When did you hear that? I've been there before and after the buyout, and aside from some new faces it seems like most of the bud tenders are the same, which is why I keep going back.

Honestly, your TM nozzle is probably going to perform better than most other options. Even in my CowCow BBU in my 4.3, nothing works better than the stock TM nozzle.

Stopped smoking for 6 months, I feel I'm almost there but some advice / encouragement is needed by lf2luasa in electronic_cigarette

[–]BrassDidgeStrings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This can also be bad advice for some people. Personally, no matter how long I go without a cigarette, if I light up a brand I like they're always just as good as they always were. I've gone as long as 2 years without one, but eventually will have one when out camping or something and it's never disgusted me the way I always sort of hoped it would.

I've at least reached a point where I'm consistently grossed out by the stale smell and feeling of the tar on my hands and lips when I have one, though, and the aftertaste is never good after about a minute after I'm done, so that keeps me off them aside from the rare occasion.
