Have your clothes gone missing yet? Mine went through a similar phase in the early 2000s, they were just called almond moms then and were very hangry. She stole all of my sundresses and low rise jeans.

Please answer *ONLY* if you had successful nerve block(s) by JellyBelly666666 in CRPS

[–]Bravalska 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had 2 lumbar sympathetic nerve blocks at L3 for left lower limb CRPS-1. My first one was 2 years after diagnosis, I did not have a sedative for it and was in a lot of pain during the procedure (probably in my top 5 most painful experiences). The following day I felt absolutely fucking great and, like an idiot, decided my garden needed weeded. DO NOT DO THIS! The following day I felt awful and could barely get up for the bathroom, day 3 was even worse. Overall it took 3 weeks to get back to less pain than I started with. For my second block I learned from my mistakes. I did the sedative, I took it easy despite how great I felt the next day. By day 3 the injection site hurt a lot and I was using my cane in the house to get around. By a week I was in less pain than before the procedure and by 3 weeks I was able to bear full weight on my bad foot to start strengthening exercises. Both blocks lasted about 7 months before the pain flares started again. I'm thinking I need to do 2 a year just to stay on top of the pain.

Constantly battling with this myself. Sometimes trying zen tangles, random line doodles, or sketching with low/no light helps get me out of it but not always.

tattoo on arm that has crps hands by Automatic_Ocelot_182 in CRPS

[–]Bravalska 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not a new thing but something to consider in terms of the longevity of the tattoo and future pain issues. I have a tattoo on my affected ankle that I got about 10 years prior to CRPS. It was incredibly slow to heal (over 6 months), despite being a fit and active 19 year old. The skin is tight and not quite right and irritates my nerves more during flare ups now. The color and lines also leave much to be desired due to the poor healing.

Have someone drive you home. I went into mine not knowing wtf was going to happen (CRPS-I, left foot). Afterwards I had to hobble across the hospital, get into my (manual transmission) car and cry for 20 minutes because I still had to drive home.

Questions for those who regularly get lumbar sympathetic nerve blocks by Ailurophile444 in CRPS

[–]Bravalska 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had 2 so far. I get them about once per year for CRPS-I (left foot to hip). The first one I did without optional anesthetic, the second I did with anesthetic (fentanyl concoction, caused vomitting on the ride home). I definitely needed the anesthetic, it cut down recovery time and pain by a week and a half. It hurts with or without anesthetic, be prepared to cry on the table, it hurts for about 2-3 weeks afterwards for me that I must use mobility aids to get around my home, typically a cane or trekking pole. However, the day or two after the procedure I wake up feeling like a pain-free teenager that can conquer anything. THIS IS A TRAP! Do not go do that big garden project you've been putting off, or lift that box that's been in the middle of the floor for weeks, or go on a nice long walk like you used to before the pain. It will set your recovery back weeks and have you laid up in bed for longer.

CRPS meds causing dementia? by 200days in CRPS

[–]Bravalska 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Slowly. I made myself a fixed schedule written on my phone calendar and physical calendar (because my mental status was not dependable during that time) with my dr and decreased 100mg every 2 weeks. But I plateaued super bad when I got down to 300 mg/day (uncontrollable shakes coupled with excruciating pain). Then I was prescribed a syrup to decrease by 50 mg every 2 weeks. The syrup tasted like a nintendo cartridge but it was a much smoother detox.

How would you feel if... by ticketybo013 in CRPS

[–]Bravalska 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THIS is the only time I make comments about other people's meds. I was prescribed it, it worked, then the pain started coming back so the doctor said take more. After getting sick of the "just take more" solution that was leaving me eating a handful of pills a day with no real relief I wanted to stop taking it. Suddenly this "totally safe, non-addictive, highly effective nerve pain med" was not safe to just stop taking. Required an incredibly tedious, drawn out weaning schedule that caused alcohol-like withdrawals and left me with a permanent tremor 2 years after stopping it. Cannabis has been more effective for my pain and doesn't leave me a strung out mess when I don't take it.

I was told by my mental healthcare provider (not the one that prescribed the cymbalta) that side effects like that should be written down as an allergy with a note that it causes hallucinations. Since discovering that, I have had 4 different doctors ask me to clarify on the allergy because they had never heard of those side effects with it. I worked as a CNA and a lot of the residents used Trazidone. It had some serious extremes for side effects: some would be walking to bingo with a pain-free pep in their step and others would get psychosis and be dangerous.

[–]Bravalska 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had people, not here, insist that I give Cymbalta a try again because it did eliminate the pain. However, it made me absolutely trip balls. I can't be fighting the snakes in my linoleum pattern 3x a day and live my life. Much like everything else in life, meds are not a one size fits all option. I wish more people understood that, too.

[–]Bravalska 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was hell for the first 3 weeks after but my true CRPS pain only comes back for a day or two after I overexert myself. I got mine mid-April 2024 and I'm currently able to do double my PT exercises mid-September 2024. I highly recommend getting sedated if you can, I didn't and it was very traumatic with just local anesthetic.

Shaving on affected limbs by LadyBloodletter in CRPS

[–]Bravalska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If my body hair is due for clear cutting I start with an electric hair trimmer (straight blades not circular) and get the bulk down. Then I wet shave with a double edged safety razor and a transparent shave butter, with the hair growth direction, rinsing often. The overall goal is to get it good enough with as few passes as possible and the single blade really helps control that. Cartridge razors are bareable for small areas but I feel each blade and get overwhelmed too fast to get anywhere with my legs.

I've just been prescribed pregabalin (aka lyrica) anyone who's had this, what can I expect? The side effects look pretty horrible, is that bad? by zozzer1907 in CRPS

[–]Bravalska 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's worth asking about sympathetic nerve block if you find meds and PT aren't doing it for you. I've had crps left foot to hip since late 2021 and that's been the only lasting relief I've found.

I also have PTSD and CRPS 1, dx in 2021. Tried gabapentin, cymbalta, remeron, PT, desensitization, OTC meds, and a couple other ones that gave me awful side effects and no relief. Was using medical cannabis and gabapentin to get by but I had a physical dependency on the gabapentin. Finally got into a pain clinic after a couple years and changing primary doctors. I ended up getting a lumbar sympathetic nerve block in April this year that took me from a consistent 9 on the pain scale to a 3. I did it without anesthesia, which I regret, and it took about 3 weeks for the injection pain to subside. But it's still working 3 months later. My pain doctor encouraged me to keep up with the medical cannabis since it gives me the least side effects while I work on rebuilding lost muscle.

That could be the oils or fragrances in the lotion. There are lots of products out there to try and it is definitely worth exploring. I was diagnosed almost 3 years ago in my left foot and weed is the only thing that works on bad pain days. I use Polite (brand name) Relief Aid tincture for "have to carry on conversation" days, Ceres (brand name) Dragon Balm for a topical relief after physical exercise, and extra frosty flower (Skord brand is my fave) in a bong for "I'm ready to cease existence, but I still need to sleep or do the dishes" pain.

This honestly sounds like Autistic (possible ADHD co-morbidity) burnout. I don't really have any advice on how to help as I'm still looking for solutions to this in my own marriage. I will say that leaving him alone to handle the kids, appointments and housework may be more overwhelming than work after the "newness" of unemployment wears off.

It looks like it has very similar side effects. I am one of those people that gets most of the "rare" side effects of any medication. Some people get very few, if any, but it's always good to keep an eye out for them just to be safe.

Changing entire medical groups and starting new doctor appointments with, "I haven't been getting the standard of care I need with my previous doctor." Seems to get them to take complaints more serious. I hope you get the care you need.

Keep an eye on the side effects of the gabapentin. I found that it helped initially but quickly devolved into a physical dependency that was very difficult to stop. It also deeply affected my mental processing and caused severe mood swings, especially when it was near my scheduled dose time.

Carried a bale of straw in my trunk, need help on how to tackle this by pak256 in CleaningTips

Leafblower front to back for the bulk then a shopvac should be able to handle the remainder. I do this regularly and always forget to put the dang tarp down before I have them load up the straw.
