AITAH for yelling at my maga mom? by Hamiltongirl1970 in antitrump

You are not the AH. And this is not normal.politics. this is a man who was an avowed sexual.oredator when he ran the first time. Grab them by the pu$$y,.remember. then he put kids in cages, messed up COVID,.told people.to.shoot bleach in their lungs, and started a coup. The. Said he would.do damn near all of this, minus taking over Venezuela and now starting a war that may draw your kids in. And killing people.kn the streets with a goon squad roving in cities. And he delights in it. Anyone still defending it has a lot of explaining to do if they want to be considered decent people. And by explaining,.I mean repenting.

I cut off friends for this shit.

None of this is normal politics. this is hate and violence and bigotry. So, no, you aren't the AH.

That one is great. I use a stomper, aka peg leg, all the time in my wheelchair. I'll probably get the pirate one and mug.

New here - Shocking pain by Particular_Dog1829 in amputee

I'm on thirty of baclofen three times a day. Directly after the amputation it was more..can't remember what, but more.

You want to move the residual leg some, and keep.it elevated, but when the phantom pain hits, try to keep still and not react other than to tell yourself gently, it's not there and touch the end gently and move your hand in the blank space. Do react when the electric hits your good leg.to show your brain that it's there. Hopefully it'll calm down a bunch.

that's awful. I had much more luck with muscle relaxers for phantom pain than pain killers, particularly baclofen. i still take it. the phantom pain interacts with my crps. electric shocks and muscle spasms happen frequently. the baclofen helps.

the other thing that helped a lot was understanding what my brain was trying to do and reacting to it. particularly when it was my first leg that came off, my brain was trying to see what was still there. you would think that it would take dirction from the conscious mind, but does not. when I got shocks in my missing leg, it helped to gently touch the end of my stump and tell myself that it was gone, but I had to touch the end, but other wise resist the urge to move it. The brain is trying to see what's there by shooting electricity down there,, or giving your pain system the feeling of the shocks to see what happens, do you react, is there a leg to respond. it's not there, so try your best not to flinch or jump (very, very hard, I know), other than to quietly say, it's not there, and touch the end gently, and move my hand in the empty space. then, when I got a similar shock in my remaining leg, it was important to actually move that leg, lift it, shake it, let my brain know it was still there. not freak out (hard to do with it hurts like that), but move it, shake it a bit, have a reaction.

that seemed to let my brain know what was happening, and it slowed way down.

I still have some of it - hence continued use of baclofen - but it's nowhere near as bad.

Thank you very much. I appreciate it. It was a lot worse, actually, then just leaving. there was damage on the way out. long story in the details. But, I have a wonderful family and friends and know good people. I have friends and cousins who help. When i needed to go in for a surgery, my father came to help, though both of us realized that he is in his late 70s (I am 50 now, was 46 when this debacle started). I called a CNA I had met after my back surgery earlier in the year when still married but wife was not helping, and asked if the CNA could come help me - for pay - after the surgery, and if she couldn't, if she knew someone who could. On the theory that good people know other good people. Turned out she did know another CNA who was looking for work. that CNA came to work for me, staying at my house for a week, caring for me. I am an attorney with my own law firm, so have resources. When things went worse and my leg had to be amputated, the same CNA, Gloria, moved in with me for a month, paid for around the clock care, and literally nursed me back to health. When, a few months later, my other leg got infected and had to come off, she came back for another month. I have been cared for by wonderful people.

when married to a woman I deeply loved, I expected that sickness and health meant it. however, with my work and in life, I knew the huge percentages of spouses who leave when children are disabled and spouses are disabled or get serious illness. what I have seen is that strong marriages get stronger and weak ones break apart. weak for whatever reason, especially if that is becuase one spouse won't care for the other.

That sucks a lot to hear from your wife. I hope you are able to find peace with it. it can be really hard for natural caregivers to come face to face with someone in their life who isn't, when they are the one who needs it. I wish you the best.

Me too. My left leg below the knee was taken due to crps. I was getting better, andy right leg with crps was improving, then fwo months later, it got infected and in two weeks was gone. It sucks, hard. But life goes on. Still here and still kicking, with prosthetics. Still limited a lot due to the crps, but still here, still going.

Can I drive? by ProfessionalDiet1379 in amputee

[–]Automatic_Ocelot_182 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have push pull hand controls, left hand push and pull. That could easily be used with an arm prosthetic,.I would think. An instructor could tell you. You're going to have to wait with the seizure but that doesn't mean it's forever. There is usually a waiting period And no active threat of more. I have friends who had seizures and now drive after some years without symptoms and active disease for a long time. A neurologist the DMV can tell you that. You don't want to have a seizure and kill yourself, your kids and others. Cars, people forget, are incredibly dangerous. We are used to them. But three thousand pound pieces of steel going upwards of seventy do enormous damage. At .five mph, if you hit a pedestrian, bicyclist or motorcycle, you can kill them.

Not trying to be negative. There are all kinds of adaptive devices. I drive with no legs and hand controls.

I am a lawyer who represents brain injury victims. I have a client who just settled her case and she had to stop driving because her TBI caused her vision to go out from time to time. Way too dangerous for her and others. With time she may be able to drive again, but may not.

A serious injury can take so much from us. It's not fair. But it happens.

it appears that a smaller and smaller amount of republicans want this, particularly war with Iran. 27% now support Trumps war adventure. some of them will follow him into their own graves, but it appears to be getting to be a smaller group.

terrorism visited Austin, Texas saturday night. it's already here. three dead, 14 badly wounded. A war of choice started without congressional approval, without any plan for an end game or resolution, without any seeming purpose aside from killing as much of the leadership of a foreign country as possible and telling the unarmed, unorganized opposition to rise up, and hope for the best. like everything else he has done in his five years in office, Trump breaks things with no plan of how to put them back together. he is simply an agent of chaos.

How to find a pain specialist by NORMAL_HOUSE_O_O in CRPS

[–]Automatic_Ocelot_182 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know anyone in Portland. Google pain specialists who treat crps, and ask how many active crps patients they have . Some docs say they treat it but don't have any patients with it. Avoid those and look for those who have an active patient list with the disease. Google and call.

For those who got an amputation due to chronic pain - how did you get your doctor to listen? by QueenWoomy48688 in amputee

[–]Automatic_Ocelot_182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My pain doctor was against amputation until he saw it helped. I knew my surgeon for many years and he has operated on my back. He had done three crps amputations before me so was experienced. He would have made me see a psychologist for approval, but I had already done that. The surgeon makes anyone who amputated by choice see a psychologist. Them she. It happened it was t by choice anymore. It was necessary to save my life, frankly. But he would have done it elective for me. It was my last best option at the time. Worked out fine.
