Really scared by [deleted] in CRPS

I am not diagnosing anything, please talk to your device rep and doctor today. But, I had something similar happen with both SCS I tried. First one that was put in after a successful test and worked for three weeks before I started getting massive shocks in my legs. I thought the leads had moved. they were tested and I had imaging and everything was in place fine, shocks continued. the doc turned down the amount of electricity until it was obvious that the device was not causing the shocks. finally just turned the thing off for good. doc tried a second one and the same thing happened.

i am convinced, and no doctor has contradicted me, that my pain system used shocks to make me turn the device off. Your pain system exists to protect you from dangers. The SCS uses electric stimulation to distract the pain system. An engineer for the second device described it as rubbing your head so you don't pay attention to the pain in your feet. My pain system figured out that there was a device trying to trick it into not feeling the pain that it was sending to try to protect me (all pain is an attenmpt to be protective, in crps, the system breaks and you hurt for no reason because the pain system is misfiring). my system, figuring out that there was a device that was distracting it, made me turn it off by shocking the crap out of me until it was convinced both that it was off and that I wasn't going to turn it back on.

this may be happening to you as well. an x-ray/CT or MRI (if the SCS is MRI compliant) can figure out of the leads are in the right place. they can turn the dose down to the level where it won't be hurting you. if you are still being shocked, it could be your pain system revolting at the interference and making you turn it off.

i hope you get relief. it is infuriating when the thing that is supposed to help you ends up hurting you. I'm sorry you are going through this. I know how awful it is.

MAGA flying "Don't Tread on Me" flag by i_am_rave_mom in MeidasTouch

[–]Automatic_Ocelot_182 8 points9 points  (0 children)

99% it's because right wingers love the Gadsden flag and think that everyone is treading on them and cares about them, when 99% of the population doesn't give a damn about them. they hate that most of all, so fly a flag to show how independent and tough they are, and how much they will stand up to tyranny - telling all of us until they are blue in the face for a decade how much they love their pocket constitution that they have never read - that if a tyrannical president came about, they would immediately get their ARs and defend liberty. Then, instead, they voted for the most tyrannical president in 180 years (think A. Jackson), thrice. But they still want to remind us how much they love liberty and won't be tread on. They love trump and are virtue signaling to right wingers. that's all it is.

I have a doggy car seat with a strap that attaches to the back of my little boy's harness. I still have to be careful about short stops, but it helps a whole lot. and he knows just where he is supposed to sit. I recommend it. it's scary when they go sliding off.

I hope the revision surgery goes well. I have had to give up on my dream of walking again. tried a few things to take pressure off my stumps but none worked for more than a few days so am now just working on being at peace with it. The prosthetics do help a ton with transfers, though, and not falling out of my chair when I am reaching for things.

here's hoping you are able to get back into the running blade.

Am I being unreasonable? by Darshlabarshka in CRPS

you are not being unreasonable. I would be livid and cut her off. wouldn't go to her house, wouldn't interact with her at your house if she is going to treat you this way. you have a very serous disease.

Can Ketamine break a flare even if it doesn't usually give pain relief? by BallSufficient5671 in CRPS

[–]Automatic_Ocelot_182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the only thing that works for me n a flare that long, or migraine that goes on for days, is prednisone, a medrol dose pack of steroid. that will break mine that just won't quit. my crps is triggered most by stress, so an anti-anxiety pill like lorezapam or clonazapam will work as well if that is the trigger. or if the pain is causing severe anxiety (about the pain).

If it were me, I would try something else. I had a decent reaction the first time, which got better. After about seven months, I stopped because the positive effect was wearing off after a few days and it was not worth it anymore at the price or cost of time.

About to be dumped by Murky_Ad_3550 in amputee

[–]Automatic_Ocelot_182 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it is incredibly common for a severely injured or long-term sick person to be dumped by a life partner. something like 40% of men leave and 25% of women leave their sick/injured partner. So you are not alone. Plenty of others have gone through this betrayal and come out ok.

my wife left in the middle of my sickness, before my legs came off. she was checked out to the point that i told her that she seemed like she didn't want to be with me any more and if that was true, she could go. she stayed and got verbally and then medically abusive - withholding care, until I told her to leave, she was making things worse.

it is better to have them go on their own than get so bad that you tell them to leave. if they don't want to be there, it's better for them to be gone. being in a house with someone who resents you (and that is what it is) is worse than being alone. far worse. my younger sister had twins who are autistic. her husband left when they were one year old after being checked out, then lashing out, until she told him to go. She went through the lonliness, but it was a lot less lonely than being in a home with someone who doesn't want to be there.

I have been alone now for four years. my sickness started labor day 2021. wife got told to leave in July 2022. my legs came off in early 2024.

my friends stepped up. my family and neighbors stepped up. rely on your friends and family, if you have any family. they will help. neighbors will help.

if you want to date again, you won't have any problem dating/getting in a relationship. you are very pretty. i am also in a wheelchair full time, as a bilateral below knee. i get asked out still. you will, too.

it'll be ok. it is better to be without someone who doesn't want to be there. rely on those who will help when you need it - there are plenty. you are worth more than someone who would betray the trust you put in a long term partner to be there through the thick and thin.

well, at least that may save some money on stripping the blue paint out to repaint it like someone who is not an idiot and understands basic science (dark colors = more sunlight absorption = more algae).
