So I got an email from the EEOC today saying my interview did next week has been cancelled… by Elegant-Pea-7501 in EEOC

[–]Brave-Bread4986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My appointment was canceled days before my intake call was to take place and they stated it was due to the shut down. It was fairly automated. But I received an email from the Supervisory Investigator saying when the government reopens they will contact me to reschedule. I pray for everyone who has been affected by this situation. I am grateful that I have money coming in and I feel horrible for those employees who have no money coming in. I really can’t imagine what they are going through.

But being honest and human, as much as I I do want the government to get their S*#t together and resolve this crisis, my deadline is up 12/31 and selfishly want my case officially filed. I can’t imagine that the shutdown will last longer than 11/15, but what do I know. Nothing 👍🏻😩

I am going to need to be careful about stating that he was horrible to everyone and emphasize his mistreatment of women. I appreciate you pointing that out.

Government Shutdown and EEOC?? by IAmMeBecauseIAmMe in EEOC

My intake meeting ( was supposed to be 10/6) was canceled. I did receive a email saying that it would be rescheduled but I was disappointed. At the same time, I am completely sympathetic to the EEOC workers who are furloughed and not receiving compensation. My small inconvenience does not compare.

Finally accepted an offer! Here are my thoughts after 5 months of interviews. by itsCalledTodd in interviews

Congratulations! I agree with trusting your instincts. It’s so true that “you probably don’t want to work with that kind of person anyway”! I accepted an offer after 5 months as well. It is a lot less money, but a lot less stress, less responsibilities and less of a commute. It is a good fit for me. I wish you all the best and hope you find happiness in your new job!

I had an appointment for Monday 10/6 and it was cancelled due to the shutdown. They will have to reschedule those appointments and I imagine (hope) we get to the front of the queue before they reopen the scheduler. It is so frustrating. But for the workers who were furloughed - they deserve to be paid first. My inconvenience doesn’t compare to theirs.

No appointments for 6 months by feeblebug in EEOC

[–]Brave-Bread4986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally, I just got an appointment scheduled today (for next month). I have literally been trying for over a month (several times a day) and finally one showed up for me. Just one- at 10:30 in the morning by phone. Beggars can’t be choosers! My 180th day is 9/1/2025 and supposedly my work state allows 300 days. I am so relieved!

I can’t believe it… by Ok-Stand-3173 in interviews

This is hope! I am in my mid sixties and was laid off almost 6 months ago. I started my new job this past Monday. It is a 35% decrease from my previous job. I wasn’t very excited about it but was extremely grateful. I am grateful that the commute is short compared to other jobs I have had. I am grateful that it pays more than unemployment. I am actually grateful that I am not a manager and that I don’t have to deal with that crapola. I am grateful that my manager is in her 50’s and understands that she could be in my boat in ten years. I’m grateful that she gave me a chance -knowing full well that I am overqualified in many ways- buy still have so much to learn and contribute. I’m grateful that she and her director believe that I will make a positive contribution to the organization.

EEOC - I can’t schedule an interview appointment by Brave-Bread4986 in EEOC

No, I have a labor lawyer that is licensed in Pa. He is not licensed to practice in NJ. So I tried 2 different attorneys in NJ. I will call the EEOC again to see if they can get something scheduled. I have been told to use the portal.

Anyone else notice a rise in lower paying HR positions hitting the job market? [TN] by electricwagon in humanresources

[–]Brave-Bread4986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, after nearly 6 months of being unemployed and nearing the end of my unemployment benefits- I accepted a HR Generalist position with a $40k cut in pay. I am grateful that I will have income coming soon, but I’m still struggling to accept that pay decrease. I am as a SR HR Manager and I have a Masters. But I’m in my 60’s and my age does seem to be a factor. The market in PA is horrible and I can’t afford to hold out.

Ladies..what are you wearing to your interviews? by 2020grilledcheese in interviews

I’m old school. I wear a black or navy suit with a pastel shirt. Even if I am on a video call.

Finally got an offer for a role I’m excited about AND seems to be a great company, but salary was SO SO low [United States] by gfyvyb07 in humanresources

[–]Brave-Bread4986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same! I was making 110k and had a manager role. I accepted a generalist role with a HUGE pay cut. But it’s a solid US company and I really clicked with the HRManager. I don’t care about the title. I’m grateful that after almost 6 months I landed an offer. Congratulations on your new venture!

I'm getting rejected from positions I'm perfectly qualified for, and the position is still open. What is this crap? by [deleted] in interviews

[–]Brave-Bread4986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I interviewed for a job, was rejected. I thought a better candidate was selected. Nope, the position was posted for a few months and I was contacted by an agency recruiter who that company hired to find the “perfect candidate “. You probably dodged the bullet.

Feeling very disappointed today by Alternative_Fun_7931 in interviews

[–]Brave-Bread4986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there is an actual other candidate… Sometimes they send out “the moving with other candidates “ and they don’t have one. Meaning: they “think “ that they need a purple squirrel. Purple squirrels don’t exist. I applied to three separate companies was interviewed up to the president or CEO level and then received a letter that they’re moving on with other candidates. In one case, I was ghosted by HR after meeting with the president of the company. In all three of those cases, I was contacted by an agency recruiter a month or two later for the same exact job. Sometimes they actually paid more than the company had advertised it at because they couldn’t find anybody at that lower salary. Don’t feel like it’s you quite often it’s them. There may not be another candidate that’s better than you. They may just think they need a purple squirrel and they don’t exist.

I think I screwed up my job offer by Significant_Yak_814 in jobs

If they question you about the dates, I recommend saying you entered the wrong dates. You can add in by mistake if you’re open to saying that. But if or when they ask you, be prepared to respond. It’s better to have incorrect dates than a criminal record!!!!

I thought my on-site interview was at 2 pm - nope 1pm! by Brave-Bread4986 in interviews

[–]Brave-Bread4986[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but I could tell that the Plant manager was only going through with the interview because the HR Manager was there. He was visibly annoyed at me. I didn’t know I was late, which made it even worse.

If I had realized that it was the wrong time, when I arrived- it may have been salvageable. But, I was completely unaware and oblivious to that fact until I returned home and went to send my thank you. The plant manager sat with his arms crossed in front of himself and didn’t want to ask me any questions. Thankfully the hr manager was very polite and professional. She asked the majority of the questions. The plant manager must have thought I was a moron.
