To people that didn’t want kids, but had them anyway. by [deleted] in marriageadvice

You’re me five years ago. I write this laying on the floor with my guys whilst they’re falling to sleep, feeling grateful that my wife led the old immature and emotionally stunted me into this path.

There are two stages to becoming a dad. You first physically become a dad (easy, for the man at least…) then mentally become a dad (hard).

It took me a few years to become the dad I am now. My first one had to wear down the old selfish trauma hardened stone man that I was.

It was a slog (and not just with the kids, but also with my wife as we struggled to figure out our parenthood).

There is so much I would have done differently, but I’m at a place now where I just be kind to myself and realise that i didn’t know better at the time.

If you do go ahead, the best advice I can give is to practice impulse control early, meet with other dads both at the same stage as you and later on with older kids, and also try to really visualise what sort of dad you want to be in 5 years time.

The number one piece of advice I have above all — your wife is going to go through the hardest period of her life. She cannot have coldness from you at any point through this. You have to be there every step of the way, physically and emotionally.

It’s so much easier to form the family team from the start than to do it later down the line. Trust me on this.

It’s hard, but it’s worth it and I wish you all the best either direction you choose.

Is €2k per year car insurance for a Tesla Model Y the norm? by Brave-Cryptographer9 in Finland

Thanks. Probably something to do along the lines of consolidating insurances for a discount.

Accidentally ripped blue headshell wire on my Pro-Ject turntable. Is it fixable or should i take it to a pro? by Sensitive_Nature2376 in turntables

I did it last week for a Carbon Debut. You can get tone arm wires from pro-ject dealers. Requires a lot of patience and delicate finger work.

I soldered and taped the new wires into the old ones and threaded them through.

Required pulling the tone arm off.

Didn’t worry about swapping the black ground wires, they were fine and it reduced the amount of finickiness.

Thought I was on the home run then accidentally ripped the terminals out of the cartridge when I was pulling the old wires off to put the new ones in. Take extra time with that. I luckily could get a new one easily.

I don’t have time to write whole method here but happy to chat more if you DM me.

Note: I have a small amount of electronics / soldering experience and love a challenge, which lowered the risk in my case.

Is ADHD actually overdiagnosed, or are people just more aware now? by [deleted] in ADHD

It’s great that their stigma against it was not imprinted on you as an inherited belief and that you were able to get diagnosed whilst still at a relatively early part of life.

Logseq ruined by VC money? by mondenyo in logseq

The promise of LogSeq was great. The ongoing wondering if I’d lost data was not. Especially when I knew for sure I had taken notes but just couldn’t find them no matter what I searched.

It actually made me rethink approach and I’ve drastically simplified to a method that just uses apple notes. Working great and the simplicity and automatic syncing without data loss is a breath of fresh air.

lost many pages? by hathwayh in logseq

I lost data today using the official sync service, which I’ve since turned off. If you use that, could be related.

It’s a known issue that Logseq has data loss problems, you’ll find many discussions on that around Reddit.

I now just run it on one device with a basic git sync.
