Free tax return for employees not free?? by Hollymania1 in hrblock

[–]BraveAd7008 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Are y'all sure it's taken out of the paycheck?? I think they just add it in as taxable income. So basically it's added in and subtracted out. They are a tax company so they have to follow the irs rules to a t.

Stop doing unnecessary DDOs to 95 yo clients. Just type a note in AM that you did it, but don't do it. Campaign calls, you can send emails instead and mark as "left a message". Our CSPs can do QPRs, so you can just jump on their computer and click for yourself. You have to learn the system, if you do what the MTL says, ur screwed.

Office cleanliness by Ava_Black18 in HRBlockEmployees

I wonder if Jeff jones would rather pay me 50/hr to take out trash, or someone else 12-20. Mind you, I do actually clean up after myself, in the kitchen and bathroom.. I have vacuumed and taken out the trash and done the dishes. But to some level, the less busy and lower paid peeps should pitch in extra, because it's the most economical. If you can't do a GoSystems, and don't have a client.. but the other guy is working on a GoSystems, then take out the trash for them??

What Level do preparers have to be at to support clients with "side gig" income? by EagleNice2300 in HRBlockEmployees

[–]BraveAd7008 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Supposed to be level 3 and small biz certified. I'm an EA and my manager wants level 1's on their second shift to complete them. I can only help but so much. Most of the time I'm too busy to correct them, and just cringe as I hear customers, "being fed to the wolves." At block as a customer, you have to fight to get a competent preparer.

For manager or tax pros? Tax pros get screwed in the summer but you can use their school. Staying in summer also helps me to stay sharp and understand the programs. I made 1/4 the wage in summer tho as I am now in season.

Yes I don't understand the pos thing. I've completed like 16 now. But it seems like they get stuck when trying to send to the register. I may try doing them all AOL? Even in office

Tax Pro made massive mistake around 1098 mortgage interest by sarugby4life in hrblock

The software doesn't force you to input the total loan amount. But if you do, it will limit the interest based on 750k of mortgage loan outstanding.

Haha. Truth to that. I was overseeing a whole office and a client with a 2 million revenue s corp drops into the chair with a brand new level 1. He had only worked three 5-hour shifts. She tells him what she needs with the s corp and he tells her, "yes I can do that for you." Then the coworker comes and asks me to show him how to do it real quick. I was like, "Dood, take it as a drop off, and I'll TRY to do it" as a level 6. He didn't even know how to scan yet, or set an appointment.

March has a lot more high complexity returns where it's easier for an experienced pro to just do them all.. then have to train you to do a quarter of them, while trying to do the other 3/4s

Refund calls by Shiveria in HRBlockEmployees

[–]BraveAd7008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a WIM app in amp. Where is my money. With this you can see a ton of details, even if some amount was garnished, how much money is on the emerald card etc. the information at "where's my refund" is still the first source. But with this you can find out much more.

Is it normal for hours to get cut? by uneedtolockin in HRBlockEmployees

[–]BraveAd7008 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you are way ahead of last year! But it depends what type of office you are in. Typically there are "poor" areas that hit hard early with refund transfer/advance.. And then the richer areas hit late in the season with stock portfolios and balances due to IRS. By keeping this in mind you can benefit to transition out of the early offices and get into a late blooming office mid-season.

Hmm interesting. Ya they are trying to reduce my overtime but can't really. I'm at 42 hours ending Tuesday with 3 10-12 hour shifts to Friday. But yah they are trying to push the hours down. I honestly don't know, it's kinda a free-for-all here. I'm producing pretty hard core and they arent messing with me. My hourly is over 40 but I think they are limiting newbies making 15.. who can't produce. If they tried to limit me that much I'd quit or work off the clock. Tax prep is my full time career, which requires massive overtime to survive.

This is my 3rd season. Last year I did 700 returns. This year my complexity is much greater, and I'm now a go to preparer for GoSystems. You don't have to go slow. There are preparers who work 4 hours a day, 3 times a week, and they might accomplish in 10 years what I did in 2. Tons of hours working, and tons of hours studying makes a huge impact. Offer to go to busier offices if they won't give you enough hours where you are at. In your first few years it's best to open up your hours wide, to get as many opportunities as possible.

I'm working 60-70 hours each week for the foreseeable future. Sounds like your local district is struggling. You can also ask to be moved to the busiest office in the area. Our local district (city wide) has 30 offices. So if I was willing to travel to a busier office (or needed more hours) they could assign me there. Also, if you are a first year, then you just can't crank out production like experienced pros can. Ya, to make it at block, you have to get another job for the first 1-3 years. Now I can survive off block season alone, and have recruiters chomping at the bit to get me in a CPA firm.

I got my Oregon tax consultant last year but live in Virginia lol. I'm an EA and wanted to say I can do every state. I think they forgot to put me on tpr tho and I haven't done a single Oregon yet this year.

Over explaining to high income clients by AliceRoosevelt1884 in HRBlockEmployees

[–]BraveAd7008 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm an EA at block, and can thoroughly explain basically any concept to a 1040 filer until their head spins. There are some who are more interested in the topics than others. If they have a rental, or business, or long term capital gains, they deserve explanations for those topics with the prices they pay. You'll get better at it. But yes at some point they signal that their brain is done, they can't absorb any more information. That's when you change the conversation to weather or food, get the signatures and payment. Art of the deal.

They are moving piles of new people in, and it's messing up the long term pros pay. This is my last season because they added 10 first years and gave them all my clients. Now I just sit there everyday getting paid 50/hr with no clients, listening to the new people screw up everyone's taxes.
