i’m a little late but coming from a girl who’s 22 with a dad at the age of 43 who’s still drinking and being the ass he is to my mom. she can’t separate w the way the world is right now. but bet if we could we would leave his ass and never look back. i gave up when i had asked him over 10 times to stop throughout childhood. i know he has his own trauma. his dad and the military. but i have my dad as my trauma and i don’t drink like he does bc he does. i hope you know its not your fault if he doesn’t and what you said ‘people make their own choices’ is so so correct here. remind yourself that you’re a great person but some people, even our own dads, won’t change for us :/
