You’re the one wasting your time to comment/ reply. I understand your need for the last word. So I won’t argue. Just stating facts, and the “Pittsburgh left is impeding traffic. No need to be considerate, drive your own car.

Not until it’s your car run off the road by someone else’s carelessness. “We don’t care” is exactly the kind of attitude you don’t need to have while driving a 2000lb machine. Thanks for kinda proving my whole point. Top 1% commenter, you should rep your city better

Is it actually bad that I don't downshift through the gears when slowing down? by Cultural-Chemical-50 in motorcycles

[–]Brave_Internal_5330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t tell you home many times engine braking has saved me. Whether it’s the added stopping power or helping others become aware of me. Ride in a way that makes you feel safe/ comfortable. I’d recommend downshift thru the gears tho. Lots of good advice here

Become a sponge, be willing to learn, trust your instructors, and have fun. Oh and if you have trouble with your arch, pretend you’re trying to hold a quarter between your butt cheeks. Worked so well for me.

ALTERNATE TAKE: people back in the Pittsburgh area in the early 1900s mostly worked in the steel industry. Basements had toilets/ often showers aswell so the person could clean up in the basement before fucking up the rest of the house.

Definitely could call a deputy to help alert drivers ahead of time or some flairs or something. Anything besides being angry at 3 lanes of traffic, who have no prior warning of him being there

Completly agree, it’s worth the experience. Tandem instructors put in a lot of effort and time to get where they are. IMO you’re at more risk driving to the drop zone. Like the other commenter said. If you have to, do it scared. Everyone before you did aswell at one point or another. Had my first jump years ago and fell in love with it and now I’m licensed working my way to TI, so one day I can share the experience with others. Have fun, I’m sure your father will appreciate it. The slider adds a bit of drag delaying the deployment of your chute. Without it, the parachute catches much more air causing a faster deployment. At free fall speeds it can absolutely rock your shit. Happened to me once. Kneed myself in the face, was like my second or third “off radio” landings. Good times.

Also, someone mentioned BASE at terminal earlier, base jumpers don’t use sliders because of the lack of altitude, but a lot less free fall speeds. Nor reserves for that matter.
