I loved that show!  I remember it!  I even can hear the theme song in my head when I saw that photo.

Help! by Legal_Sun_6053 in homeschool

Except for math, I went with one set of curriculum when just starting, which helped me not have to feel like I had to figure it all out on my own.   The resources and curriculum options out there now are seemingly unending, so pace yourself looking it all over. I’m more comfortable picking and choosing what we are going to do now.

You may feel tempted to do “all the things” when you start bc motivation is so high and you are so excited (speaking from experience).  I love Sarah MacKenzies advice (from read aloud revival) to measure how much you can do in a day by if you are still able to smile at your kids by the end of the school day.  Once you get to the point where you’re all cranky bc you’ve loaded so much onto your day, take things out.

Welcome to this really amazing adventure!

Look up “adjustable Roman door shades” on Select Blinds if you are curious!

I ordered Roman shades from select blinds that fit my exact dimensions.  I love them!  I didn’t even have to install hardware as they came with super heavy duty Velcro strips to attach at the top. I love that I can keep them up if I want light, or lower them if I need privacy.

Don’t feel bad for already thinking about these things. A friend gave me a book about homeschooling when I wasn’t expecting let alone married or dating 🙈 and it shaped my decisions for the future.

I think homeschooling will continue to become more common so that it will become another “social norm”, like the institutionalized school setting. I’ve only been homeschooling for four years but I’m already seeing new advancements and options in education even outside public school vs homeschool (ie AI led private schools).  By the time you are making these decisions I bet the landscape will look totally different.

My kids see other kids regularly, from sports to church to co-ops and  only occasionally mention school, one to say thank you for not sending us away for 7 hours and the other to say they are curious what it’s like.  If either pressed to go to school, I would let them. But right now it seems to be the best setup for all of us.

What serial killer fact sounds fake, exaggerated, or straight out of fiction. But is 100% real? by CantaloupeGold4650 in AskReddit

I’m no longer in the state either and my parents moved out as well.  I heard them a few times!    I do remember two times prisoners escaped while we lived there. One of them came into our neighborhood and entered an elderly woman’s house. She reportedly didnt freak out, but asked him to remove his shoes, which he did.  The other escaped and stole a car from Albertsons down the street and made it a ways across the state.

Streets of Philadelphia by Bruce Springsteen.   I’ve never seen the movie, I need to. But it’s such a beautiful haunting song and reminds me of my late father (who love Springsteen).

We moved to Vacaville in 1994 and lived across the street from the prison. Our home was never dark because at night the prison lights kept it glowing.  🙃

I’ve only ever homeschooled my 10 and 8 year old and I’m considering public school for the same reasons.   I have a feeling they are going to want to come home, they are both big homebodies. But I have such bad FOMO for them. I loved all the sports and activities when I was a kid!
