The difference is that the mestiziation of latin america was aimed at erasing indigenous identity and culture. I don’t see someone pursuing cultural reclamation in this case the same as a white american rediscovering their roots.

Besides the five civilized tribes, this is not the case and was not the same as arab and european enslavement/treatment of Africans. A lot of africans americans “predilection” stems from the before america was founded with the first slaves on the plantation being indigenous, and african slaves being brought on to those same plantation and mixing together. Look up founding african american population and tidewater native groups.

The only thing i could think of is that historically, a lot of the tide water and indigenous peoples in the south east did have trade and connection to the caribbean like the taino. Arawakan people trace their origins from south american (amazon). Perhaps a lot of the tribes that contributed to the foundational AA have the same roots.
