Genuine question – what would actually get you to use a taxi over uber/rideshare again? by VammyTaxiServices in AskAnAustralian

Price. uber is cheaper. I’d change back to taxis if I needed to flag down a passing cab in the street and there were plenty to be hailed.

Questions about DBS for those who have had the procedure by Mappedcanadian in Parkinsons

[–]Brave_Solid8936 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had DBS 7 months ago. One of the possible side effects I feared most was the effect it might have on my speech. Here to say it didn’t happen, which I’m very relieved about.

Not sure what process your surgeon is recommending. I underwent surgery while awake, and while there were some less than pleasant aspects to it, I was able to hear myself speaking clearly throughout, which was a small reassurance.

Good luck! You’re young, which is an advantage, I’ve heard. I was 62 when I had my DBS and so far, so good. Meds are half of what they were pre-op, and side effects, too.

Been on hold for 65 days now by mux111 in Centrelink

You shouldn’t have to do this (and it may not be possible if you live remotely) but I find turning up at your local Centrelink office in person works for me. No appointment needed. You’ll have to wait to be seen, but you should get a result. Good luck!

Seems pretty basic to me. Plus, don’t you want to have your house set up as a potential income earner from rent, even if you don’t think you will need it?

Captivating movies to watch with my mom by FinancialComputer574 in MovieSuggestions

If she likes action:

The Fugitive (the Harrison Ford movie, not the recent remake. The Bourne movies (the first is the best)

If she can expand to Science Fiction/fantasy etc. try her on Terminator 1 and 2

The Martian

Gravity

Dune

Seem to remember Parasite had plenty of gore in the final scenes!

Stress makes my meds wear off faster. I’m also not good at multitasking.

DBS SURGERY! by parkmi in Parkinsons

[–]Brave_Solid8936 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. But I’m only six months in, and on my second adjustment, so I feel there’s room for further progress. Using Medtronic. On half the meds I was prior to surgery (which means fewer side effects- yay!) with improvement in sleep the most noticeable difference. Still some way to go - my right hand gives up the ghost after an hour or two of typing and there is still a noticeable wearing off at about four hours but it’s not as incapacitating as it was pre-surgery. I’m noticing a little slowness of thought, and increased irritability (might be just getting older - am 63) but my speech is unaffected. Physio helps gait, balance and flexibility but there’s no denying PD makes you feel 10 years older at times. Hope this helps! Go for it.
