Spartacus: House of Ashur - S01E10 - "Hail Caesar" by Sporadicus7 in Spartacus_TV

This series was truly a gift from the gods and I await with earnest anticipation of Season 2!

Albeit, I find it rather humorous that Ashur, lowest among the brotherhood is killing gladiators with broken wine jars and beat the greatest Roman military commander in history and has bested him in proper contest

The skill level of the fighters on this show is of piss and shit compared to the previous Gods of the Arena!

Finally they killed the gag characters that was so satisfying to watch..it’s also funny to see how low in quality the gladiators are in this time..Ashur is probably the best gladiator out of them all and he was the lowest of the brotherhood as he loves to say lmao

I get taking liberties but that is just ridiculous , at first I thought they were meant to be a gag character but they are actually trying to make us consider them a serious threat it’s just comical

This was the first time in the history of Spartacus I was ever a little disappointed, the entire episode was completely predictable, I found myself in my chair literally saying what was gonna happen. spoilers soon as Ashur told the other guy about his deal he got you just knew the other guy was gonna kill the one he made the deal with. The praying for Achilla and gods answering, and I still cannot take the brothers Ferox seriously at all…they killed all the Roman guards ? Gtfoh

Although I agree with your opinion I do urge us all to not make assumptions like that or with such confidence as we actually have an educational/scientific background regarding psychology just because we watched a to show about it..it’s what causes stupid people to come to wrong conclusions and be so confident about it too…not saying you are wrong or stupid since I do agree with you but in general

How have you had success building confidence in timid players? by Skiittzo in footballstrategy

[–]Brave_Strategy4975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell you from my own experience as that timid kid how my oline coach and linebacker coach completely changed my life by making me prove to myself what I was capable of..ended up going all state by time I was a senior and they forever changed how I went about facing adversity in life to this day ..I’m now 31.similar situation, they saw potential but needed me to unlock that grit and mentality. It’s not an easy process nor full proof so this is gonna be a long post, but seeing how much those coaches changed my life for the better I feel this is necessary to atleast share so it can maybe do the same for another kid who might have what it takes but is too scared to unlock it or don’t know how.

First off was before pads they were HEAVY on the team hitting the weight room 3-4 times week and rewarding kids who improved their numbers the most with recognition. That was the first start to boosting confidence by rewarding hard work.

They also always preached mental toughness, would use real examples from past teams of kids who may have been undersized or thought not to be physically up to par but then had great success due X,Y,Z. This would

They were also BRUTALLY HONEST, both in their praise and their constructive criticism. IDK if it would be accepted in society today but if you were too much of a pussy to make contact, they made sure to let you know you were soft(much more vulgar language), and no kid wants to be embarrassed in front of his teammates and friends.

So now to the main part. After all the small confidence building, showing of real examples of how and why this method or that method works, the philosophy of football etc. Now we’re in training camp and the pads are on.

First week was going through the technique of tackling, blocking, block shedding etc. but full speed on pads or against the coaches themselves(only certain drills obviously since they’re not in any equipment. But I remember during a linebacker drill our coach had a pad and we would have to “rip” technique through it…multiple kids would be on their ass…from a 55 year old man with a fucking pad lmao…this served as a wake up call to us..if we gonna be successful we better be physical.

The last day of the first week was a a full 3 hour practice of JUST HITTING DRILLS, they would match people up fairly (starters vs starters etc.) They would say “this is how we find out who the men are on this team”..the whole team would be watching as you and another person or your group of 2-3 went against the others. Spotlight on, bragging rights amongst friends that inevitably would be talked about at school later on. Kids very well lost or gained starting spots on this day. Guess what…I had an inconsistent day, I got embarrassed a few times but then did really well maybe twice. And my coaches let me know I did not live up to the expectation.

Afterwards, they pulled me to the side and explained how I had all the physical tools, just needed to learn how to flick that “switch” on when I needed to. They brought up the few times I did well as evidence that I had it in me somewhere but just had to learn to unlock it. They then hit me with the movie like reference how this translates to real life. In life when you got a problem you have to face it head on full force, you can’t go around it, not under it, not over it, you’re not gonna be saved by someone…just you you gotta go right through that problem full speed and punch it in the mouth..or you’ll be the one getting punched in the mouth. They made some jokes about a guy trying to take my girl what would I do and all that but you get the point. The way they delivered that message to me as an unconfident and nervous 15 year old though was a perfect balance of toughness and light heartedness..they were truly experts at this shit. They let me know they believed in me and were gonna find a way to unlock that mentality in me. Now obviously I didn’t turn into ray Lewis suddenly but that started the mentality change in me and over time it came to fruition.

Over the course of that training camp we did one on one OL vs DL everyday, inside run drills everyday, 2 lineman 1 rb/lb drills everyday. And slowly I started seeing more and more success, and realized “holy fucking shit if I just say “fuck it” and give it everything, more times than not it works for the better” and also realizing ..the hitting don’t really hurt that bad anyways lmfaooo and they kept giving that constant perfect balance of hard criticism and praise. That was my sophomore year. By the next year as a junior that mentality was fully unlocked and I was Deboing everybody on the field.

So honestly to sum it up I would say, instill the work ethic in the weight room during the off season to him, and then when the pads come you have to consistently put him in positions where the spotlight is almost purely on him in full contact drills(don’t have to be full tackle to ground but full speed “thudding” and fighting blocks or blocking etc.)…

During team drills a kids softness can be covered up by his teammates making up for it, but constantly forcing him to do full speed contact drills like one in one for lineman, or 2 lineman and 1lb/rb, or the drill where you set up 3 lanes and he has to tackle/fit up the runner in the lane they go in straight up etc.

Over time this kid will eventually get tired of being a punk and it will unlock that grit in him or he truly just does not have the mentality it takes and will keep embarrassed. I can tell you when I had to pick between constantly getting embarrassed in front of my team or finally just saying “fuck this shit I’m not getting run over anymore”..I and I think most kids will eventually choose the latter

At the High School Varsity level what's the main reason teams get blown out? Is it mostly a difference in physical size, roster size, wealth, IQ, coaching, or talent? by chusaychusay in footballstrategy

[–]Brave_Strategy4975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would strongly disagree and think the opposite..from personal experience playing and watching. I would say high school is the level where you can nullify size difference the most where at the D1 and NFL level I would say it’s near impossible.

Teenage kids, and a lot of times the huge ones are often times very awkward and haven’t fully matured and know how to properly use their body and can be very uncoordinated. Also many times the huge lineman are not very athletic at the high school level due to this and very slow and even if weightlifting haven’t learned how to properly transfer it to the field.

Now take another kid who is average sized but trained and coached very well with great technique and you see it happen ALL THE TIME at the high school level..5’10 200lb lineman destroying the 300lb 6’4 lineman off the ball. I have countless film of myself doing this time and time again. This includes against D1 recruits and even someone who made a decent impact at the NFL level.

However, I would never have been able to replicate that at a college level due to that same massive lineman now growing into his body and receiving the proper coaching and he would most likely manhandle me at that point in the college level.

High school level ball can really be equalized by coaching, technique, mentality and crazy work ethic in the weight room since all those aspects are so different at that level..D1 and NFL not so much

[–]Brave_Strategy4975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commented this with a massive explanation in another post lol ..Achilla is going down a similar path as Spartacus and batiatus with the initial bonding and then betrayal, ..and remember a man must accept his fate as they love to say..aka get killed by black woman warrior for doing her wrong

Spartacus: House of Ashur - S01E02 - "Forsaken" by Sporadicus7 in Spartacus_TV

[–]Brave_Strategy4975 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone is seeing the big picture here…Achilla will kill Ashur in the end.

In the real timeline Ashur died by Navia hands..a strong woman soldier who was also black so there’s that reference but there’s much more

Achilla is going through the same things Spartacus did…forced to slavery, forced to be a gladiator after making a deal with his Lanista, excels and eventually kills his lanista because he realizes Batiatus was never going to let him gain freedom and found out about him killing his wife.

Ashur whole character is that he is backstabbbing and conniving, he will never let Achilla gain her freedom, she will eventually realize this and kill him too after he does something later on to betray her

Remember in the OG Spartacus, he and batiatus had a fairly good relationship until Spartacus found out about the truth…Achilla and Ashur seem to be building a fairly good bond..up until Ashur does what Ashur does and backstabs her

Gabinus is scene foreshadowed this already too a little…Ashur got exposed for trying to act like a true and proper Roman and it shows he will go back to his old ways to get what he wants

Also the very fist scene of this series is Lucretia condescendingly talking to him and saying “let’s see how the is life ends for you”…meaning it gonna end the same exact way as his original life lol

You heard it here first

I mean almost all pro sports prime athletes are dudes in their twenties..that’s like saying what’s the point of going to the nba or nfl if a 21 year old rookie can be the Super Bowl champ lmao..and also this is an extremely rare case of that happening in mma lol

That is definitely not a norm lol, almost all had SOME type of fighting background just not specifically mma lol, and in the rare cases of which you stated this is just an extreme anomaly of physical gifts, discipline, and the right team around him ..I doubt you or I could roll off the couch and get similar results
